                Telephonic Communication 

What is telephonic communication ?

Telephonic communication , or telecommunication , refers to the conversation or talk over a telephone . It is a form of oral communication or voice communication.

Telephone communication was first invented in 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell, and it was later on improved upon by many others. In the beginning of telephones and telephone calls were very expensive for the general public . It was the privilege of the rich class. But with the advancements in technology in the present day , it has become cheaper and most preferred mode of communication in the form of mobiles. Telephone communication has brought about a revolution in the society and business . Telephonic communication has made the world small as long distance call can be made within second. Telephones, which was initially only capable of voice communication, perform a variety of function which has led to the printing of instruction manuals on how to use them . In the modern age of sms , mms, whatsapp, facebook , twitter and instant online message , the use of traditional telephone communication seems to declining . But , in reality , telephonic communication has not lost its importance at all in the sphere of business . Business house , big and small are using telephones to carry out their business including making enquiries, placing order, lodging complaints, buying and selling of a variety of products etc. The telephone call, which connects a caller with a human voice , is still an important business component. Ways of Effective telephone Communication To improve your telephonic communication skills, remember the following guidelines. Choose a silent/ Noise – Free Place to talk In telephonic communication , both the speaker and the listener should be able to hear each other clearly . Noise from television , road traffic and party loudspeakers etc, If you feel that your client is more comfortable with two languages; you can follow a bilingual approach. After choosing the proper language of communication you should decide upo the sue of suitable vocabulary (use of words). Thinking about your words before make your call can help you can convey your message clearly. This would also make the receiver comfortable and he would have a good impression on you. Use simple complex words would be easily understood by the receiver. The use of difficult and complex words would confuse the receiver. For this, it would be better if you could note down the main points of message before making the call. Use a positive Tone While talking over the telephone, your tone should be natural and positive. You should make the receiver feel that you are really interested in making the call. Your enthusiasm to call makes your tone appear positives to the receiver. The receivers your call with all his sincerity . Smile while making a call The receivers feels comfortable and your constant attention makes him feel important. He receiver would not to able to see your smile but can help you to start with a positive tone. Use proper tone , Pitch and Tempo Take care of the voice quality during the call. Use appropriate Tone, Pitch and Tempo of your voice. Tone: As a good caller you should not use a single tone throughout your call. You have to Modulate ( variation) your voice while expressing different statements, question , exclamation etc . Using a single tone in your call make the receiver of the call fell bored.

Pitch: Pitch refers to the degree of loudness of speaker’s voice. It can be high, medium or low. In a good conversation, the speaker does not use the same pitch always. He uses high pitch of his voice to express strong feelings and low medium for not-so – strong feelings.
