May 2022[edit]

Hi Serols, I am not trying to valdalise Wikipedia. I cited several sources in my most recent edit. Why do you think my edits are not constructive? GaloisCategories (talk) 11:05, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, when I click on your user page, it does not come up with anything. Are you able to confirm that you are indeed a human and not a robot? GaloisCategories (talk) 11:06, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello GaloisCategories, you know what the word historical means? --Serols (talk) 11:20, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Net worth is a measure of how many real goods a person can purchase. If Rockerfeller had 900 million in 1913, (as stated in Grant Segall's book "John D. Rockefeller: Anointed with Oil" on page 100), then this means he could have purchased the equivalent of 26.1 billion dollars worth of goods today. (https://www.in2013dollars.com/us/inflation/1913?amount=900#:~:text=Value%20of%20%24900%20from%201913,cumulative%20price%20increase%20of%202%2C804.08%25.) And is Elon Musk historical? --Serols (talk) 11:27, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well I would say that it is a bit ambiguous when something becomes historical. One could argue that anything in the past (such as elon musk reaching a net worth of 340.4 billion dollars on november 4th) is a historical event. However, I can understand that there is some grey area of how the word 'historical' might be interpreted. The issue is that when someone searches 'richest ever person' into google, this is the first article that appears. As a result, I think it is misleading to not list currently alive people who are richer than anyone who has ever lived in the past. GaloisCategories (talk) 11:34, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to make two separate pages, one with a title of 'richest figures in history' and another with a title of 'richest people of all time' then that might be fair enough. However if there is only to be one article, then I think it should be 'richest people of all time'. I think this is the interpretation most people would have when they come to this page. As you can see in the talk page, there is wide agreement that this page is inconsistent and in need of fixing. GaloisCategories (talk) 11:38, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, then we wait until there is a consensus on the talk page. --Serols (talk) 11:43, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I just said that there is a consensus on the talk page. GaloisCategories (talk) 11:44, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, the word historical is actually clearly defined. --Serols (talk) 11:58, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed it is. According to google, 'historical' means "of or concerning history or past events". In other words, something that occurred on the 4th of November 2021 is historical. GaloisCategories (talk) 12:01, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
