Your username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created List of self-publishing companies, and I noticed that your username, "SpiffingCovers", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Trammel Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "Jack Smith at the XY Foundation", and "WidgetFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a change of username, by completing this form, that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. noq (talk) 14:42, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

February 2016[edit]

Please do not use Wikipedia to promote businesses. Wikipedia is not the Yellow pages. If you want to list a company for potential customers to find, please consider alternative outlets. Thank you. noq (talk) 14:42, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Noq[edit]

Many thanks for the note. Sorry about the previous mishaps, I'm a bit new to this! I've just had my name changed as per your advice so it is unaffiliated with where I work.

In regard to the article I'd like to write, I would very much like to do this not as a promotion, but simply to have this link to the SpiffingCovers name on the "list of self-publishing companies" page, as it is a self-publishing company and I feel it should be on the list, as are other companies such as Lulu.com and Xlibris. I would only ever write it in an unbiased and objective manner and I don't plan on 'bigging us up' at all, nor do I wish to make the article in such as way as to push other companies aside.

I haven't been told to write this by my team and I plan on doing it at home, in my spare time. Therefore, would I still be able to do this?

Thanks.

Gabe, you should read WP:COI first before writing anything about the company. Once you are aware of that, you need to show that SpiffingCovers is notable in Wikipedia terms. Please read WP:NCORP for the guidelines to notability of companies. You will also need to ensure that you provide independent WP:reliable sources talking about the company. These should show significant coverage rather than just mentioning it. Finally, rather than creating the article directly, try creating it as a draft - see WP:articles for creation. noq (talk) 17:45, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
