name translations in wikipedia

[edit]

Jaegar and Yaegar are extremely close together. for example, some people in the world are named Yonathan while others are Johnathan. Regardless, if you see an official translation that you personally consider wrong, dont take it out on wikipedia, and dont try to reason using your personal interpretation. NO matter how accurate you are, we can't choose your interpretation over the official one.

In the future if you ever see such a thing again, its best to complain to the ones who mistranslated it in the first place. wikipedia only follows the sources. Lucia Black (talk) 09:01, 1 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not really certain how it's "taking it out on Wikipedia" - are the talk pages not intended for discussion? I wanted to make an appeal to the editors of the article instead of barging in willy-nilly and changing everything based on my own opinion. I have provided resources to back my argument on the AoT talk page. GTaichou (talk) 18:35, 1 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Not really, the resources provided are splitting hair and ridiculous. It doesn't change the fact that kodansha chose to romanize the name. And wikipedia can't change the official spelling. Understand that. unless you can confirm they have changed it, then be my guess. but your complaints are directed to how inaccurate the name is by existence, not by the usage of the name. Keep in mind, its really stupid to fight over one small spelling that doesn't really affect the story at all.
Your discussion is all based on research outside of atack on titan and more dedicated to the name. If you have been editing in wikia, and not in wikipedia, keep in mind that wikia can make up any rules they want depending on the community. Lucia Black (talk)
Understood. My hands are off. Thought it was worth a shot at least. GTaichou (talk) 00:13, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
