[edit]You're pointing to a general problem of vandalism on wikipedia, which has no general solution. In low-traffic, undeveloped pages, we hope on positive contributions of anonymous editors. Some of the following may justify protection:
- Stable, high-quality (WP:GA or WP:FA) article,
- The vast majority of recent edits by IPs and new editors are not constructive,
- Recent attack by multiple IPs.
We are doing our best to stop general vandalism, but this is impossible. If the school can not tolerate vandalism of its pages, it may consider monitoring them, or maybe try following the route 1 above. If specific words are being repeatedly added to those pages, we can try filtering edits on that basis, but here again, frequency should be high enough to justify setting up a filter (filters are easy to program, but they slow down the site access).
