I suggest you try asking on Wikipedia:WikiProject Kansas (or, rather, their talk page - Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Kansas - and look at other project groups.
As a 'helpme', we can only really give quite specific advice.
The main thing it needs is - as always - references to good reliable sources - that's step 1, always. Gathering sources.
All the info in an article needs to be verifiable. That's the key to the whole thing. Facts, from reliable sources.
I also suggest that you look closely at other, similar "featured articles". History of Baltimore City College, History of Texas A&M University, Duke_University#History. They should give good examples.
