Marie-Jeanne Larrivée Lemière

[edit]

Hi, Froverseas, in the article Marie-Jeanne Larrivée Lemière you have removed sourced information drawn from the recent Dictionnaire de l'Opéra de Paris sous l'Ancien Régime (1669-1791), to the effect that two brothers of Marie-Jeanne played in the Opéra orchestra in the same period as she was engaged as a singer. You restored a previous statement (allegedly drawn from a 1905 book by Arthur Pougin) referring to a sole brother named Jacques. In fact Pougin, an undoubtedly reliable source, just states en passant (p. 121 of his cited book), without even apparently giving the brother's full name: "Sœur cadette d'un violoniste fort distingué ... qui appartint lui-même à l'orchestra de l'Opéra pendant plus de vingt ans, ...".

On the contrary, in her article Larrivée, Marie-Jeanne Lemière, épouse in the aforesaid Dictionnaire, Sylvie Bouissou writes: "Elle est la fille aînée de Louis-Michel Lemière, perruquier, et de Julienne Lemaire, et la sœur de Jacques-Louis et Jacques, respectivement violoncelliste et violoniste en activité à l’Opéra à la même époque".

On both of the Lemière brothers there are specific entries in the Dictionnaire (pp. 522/523) written by Pascal Denécheau.

Since the Dictionnaire is a more recent and detailed source, which does not contradict but only completes Pougin, I believe the previous statement about the two Lemière brothers ought to be restored. Cheers.--Jeanambr (talk) 16:02, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for letting me know! I wasn’t sure about the information—hence why I had it changed. I will look at it as soon as I am home!

Best,
