Thanks for reverting the AOLer vandalising my talk page. It's a pity I can only ban the **** for an hour! -- Arwel 00:00, 1 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Erasing Content

[edit]

Sorry about erasing that article. I promise not to vandalize any longer. The point of that was not to make you, or anyone elase at Wikipedia mad, but I wanted to see how fast you, and other Wikipedia admins reacted to changes in the Wikipedia database. The reason I wanted to know this was because I wanted to make sure how accurate information on Wikipedia is. Also, when a user makes changes, how do you verify the information which was changed? Lastly, when someone vandalizes an article, how do the admins catch it, as there are millions of articles on Wikipedia? Thank you for your time, and continue the great job on administering one of the world's greatest online encyclopedia's!

Self reversion

[edit]

I self-reverted, and nontheless, you beat me to the punch. This is going on record nontheless. 165.230.149.164 00:42, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Moreover, as it was a SELF REVERT that you jumped the gun on, it shouldn't count as vandalism. 165.230.149.164 00:43, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My Platypus edit was fair.

[edit]

Please tell me how this is vandalism? Trevor Dunn is a respected artist who has featured the platypus in songs and as an album cover. It is an intersting fact about the animal that people using the page might like to know.

Sandbox Flooding

[edit]

I flooded the sandbox to see how large I could make the pages. What has the largest page ever been on here, and what can the limit be? Adamwankenobi 18:30, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and me putting "This place is for kids" a million times was a play on the name of that tool. Actually, the place is useful for me at times. Adamwankenobi 18:33, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Backcountry, delete

[edit]

Hello,

I intentionally didn't hot link the urls of our others sites, because I didn't want it to be spam. However they are the six sites we run, so it would seem relevant to include them. I understand that advertising is not appropriate, but I do believe that there is a historical context here. There aren't too many internet companies founded with $2,000 that now hold 2nd place in their category and threaten large offline companies.

I can understand the inclination is to delete, but I think that ultimately wikipedia is richer for the information, and will be richer still if the entry gets modified over time.

Thanks for listening,

John Bresee

Hello, I was trying to create a STUB page and you blocked it due to copyright infringement. I work for Micralyne and have permission for that content. However, I will likely be changing it anyway as I just pasted it there as a temporary placeholder to test.

Problems at Horchata article

[edit]

209.242.5.73 or HorchataEd (who may be the same person?) are still causing problems at Horchata. Currently, not only have they added a picture of the Rosa's Horchata, along with promotional text, but the picture is HUGE. I'm going to revert one more time but don't want to risk a 3RR; could you look into the situation again? Thanks. :) ManekiNeko | Talk 20:02, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, glad you are keeping an eye on it. In addition, while looking at some of the Mexican cuisine pages to see if horchata was properly linked, I saw that 71.108.1.140 went around on August 14 linkspamming for about.com on a bunch of the pages; I went through and removed some of them, some had already been removed, and left the ones that seemed reasonable to me... is there anything else that should be done there? Whoever it is hasn't come back to replace their links that were already removed, so maybe there's no need to worry. Thanks again! ManekiNeko | Talk 23:29, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks for the response! :) ManekiNeko | Talk 00:20, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ack, he's back. I've removed the content twice and am itching to do it again, but I am afraid of violating 3RR, even inadvertently... but would this qualify as vandalism and therefore not a 3RR issue? ManekiNeko | Talk 02:51, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your advice on this! Much appreciated. ManekiNeko | Talk 22:16, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy about Janelle Pierzina

[edit]

Freply, give me a hand here, will you? I'm unwilling to do anything else with this for fearing of lending creedence to the paranoid belief that I'm a "reality hater", whatever that means.

This is the rundown of what happened:

I was closing VfDs from September 1st yesterday. After doing about a half dozen, I came to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Janelle Pierzina. I ran through the votes and decided that there was rough consensus for a redirect. Two users took issue with my interpretation, and I laid out my rationale in the interest of total transparency.

I come back today, and my redirect has been reverted by an anon user. I'm not a power tripper- you know this- but it irks me to see the consensus trampled over like this. Anyhow, I wash my hands of the whole thing, and I've got a lot of more exciting Real Life stuff to do than deal with this right now. Can you look into this, or pass it off to somebody with the time to?

Thanks, FS, in advance. Fernando Rizo T/C 21:45, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

rob took care of the anon's undo of the redir, but I suspect there will be a lot of grousing about this pages, as Janelle is enormously popular with viewers of Big Brother. If you look at the voting, you'll there really much of a consensus at all really, even with the tossing out of votes of unworthy types like myself and that I'm sure doesn't help either.--Firedrake 03:45, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Freply, thanks for your consideration as always. I've gnawed on this one for a while, and I think the best course of action is to re-list the article at AfD. There are some editors who are extremely bitter about this matter and as I value my integrity above all other things, I'd like to give it another go and just recuse myself. Thanks again, FS. Fernando Rizo T/C 10:17, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Freply. I totally see where you're coming from on the thought that an RfC may have been more appropriate than an AfD. I did consider that, and I just kinda figured that if an AfD was improperly closed in the eyes of some users, then only another AfD would be fair. I'm pretty happy with what I did. Thanks for backing me up, though, as ever. You'll get flowers on Valentine's Day. :) Fernando Rizo T/C 17:32, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

[edit]

Hey, FreplySpang. Thanks for the congrats; I was amazed at how much support there was through the week. I was closing some close-cut AfDs and have discovered what they don't tell you: that when it's your neck on the line, it gets a lot more difficult all of a sudden! Anyway, please keep an eye on me and my logs, especially while I learn my way around the new buttons. Thanks again, -Splash 18:31, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't say anything bad about Bush. In fact I voted for him! I love the guy.

Have I ever made up stuff!? What did I do, I am trying to figure that out. I come on here and you act like I did something. Please I really want to know what I did?

OK, I will stay away from GWB but you know more will rise up and take control and soon all will eat puppies! MU HAHAHA!

In reply to the recent message you have left for me...

[edit]

I didn't create any articles that are basically lists of external links. Whatever articles I have created has significant content to it, although additional information may be needed to be added on at a later time. I surely know that Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information and I hope everyone remembers that and follows by those guidelines as I do. I don't know where or how you may think whatever article that I have created may seem other than relevant information but I can assure it does have a notable purpose to it. Thank you very much for your time and dually-noted opinion. Do take care for now! :-) UniReb 04:34, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

...if referring about the List of Taunton (MA) businesses

[edit]

The article in question that you were most likely referring to is connected to a parent article, which is Taunton, Massachusetts. That particular parent article can no more equipment any large amount of relevant information such as the one you're probably inquiring about. That article is a list of businesses that has some historical significance and/or chain within the local region of that area. Also, the list features prominent businesses that have a presence in that city and/or its corporate headquarters within the city. Nevertheless, more than half of the prominent businesses featured are major corporations within its field, as well as leading businesses within the regional, national, or international community. This city ranks third within the state for being the most diverse area in industry, as it has been one of the most diversed in this field for several hundreds of years. Even during Colonial America, it was one of the most diversed areas of industry within Massachusetts and also the original thirteen colonies, as shown on its official seal. I conclude, this city has a long and glorious history in industry that is of much relevance pertaining to many important aspects of the city's foundation, culture, people, and etc. Thank you for your time and enjoy Wikipedia! :-) UniReb 04:59, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I will take in consideration of transforming the article. UniReb 05:09, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the lookout

[edit]

You're right, it was a bit overboard. Thanks for unblocking the user for me.

I also found these user names...do you think we should sit and wait a bit longer for these?

  • Wikipedia atul
  • Mujahedin
  • Flying Spaghetti Monster
  • Lupine (seems suspiciously similar to User:Lupin
  • Grunt007 (seems suspiciously similar to User:Grunt
  • Jimbogaz (anything with "Jimbo" in it seems a bit suspicious)

--HappyCamper 14:52, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I left a welcoming message and an apology for Christchurch - hopefully that would help the user feel a bit better after I blocked him/her.
On another note, the new user log is really quite useful! I've really warmed up to it after I was the first to block another sockpuppet of WoW the other day. :-) --HappyCamper 15:23, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I am one of the people working with the introduction of this new company. In regard to candidates for deletion notice we have read the wikipedia quidelines and tried to work within that framework.

Hi, I'm using this website for definitions for my college science course, i haven't used it before and it said "You Have Messages" and i dont think it's to me because im not registered and i've never edited or vandelised any pages on Wikipedia, I don't know if you can reply because, again, i'm not registered and hope i don't get blocked from using Wikipedia because it's very helpful for my course! Thanks, Alexia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 195.93.21.34 (talkcontribs) 19:31, 24 September 2005 (UTC)

Hi Alexia. I hope you get this response! Don't worry about being blocked if you're not vandalizing. If you don't create an account, sometimes you get messages aimed at other anonymous users from your school or Internet Service Provider. It's unfortunate, but it's the best we can do without requiring people to create accounts. In any case, we never block anyone from reading Wikipedia, only from changing it. Feel free to create an account if you like - it's quick and free - but it's not necessary. I'm glad our site is useful to you! FreplySpang (talk) 00:17, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
