Welcome to Wikipedia!

[edit]

Dear Freedom Fighter 1988: Welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

Wikipedians try to follow a strict policy of never biting new users. If you are unsure of how to do something, you are welcome to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator. One last bit of advice: please sign any dicussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD!

Personal pronouns on Wikipedia

[edit]

Oh, sorry. I should have clarified I was talking only about first and second person (singular/plural). You can't use these personal pronouns because an encyclopedia is an impersonal source. Wikipedia:Manual of Style itself states that "Wikipedia articles must not be based on one person's opinions or experiences", so "I can never be used except when it appears in a quotation", and the use of we and one must be avoided too, "for similar reasons".

The manual also says "it is sometimes appropriate to use we or one when referring to an experience that anyone, any reader, would be expected to have, such as general perceptual experiences." It said that a sentence such as "When most people open their eyes, they see something." can be written as "When we open our eyes, we see something." Open one's eyes is something truly general, therefore the use of we or one is acceptable.

The manual also talks about the second person (which must be avoided too), but you can read that on your own.Kazu-kun 18:01, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Principal Yakuza families

[edit]

Hi there! Thanks a lot for your recent contribution to Wikipedia's article on Yakuza (section on Principal Families.)

I just wanted to let you know that the section really needs references and sources.

Also, I had to heavily copyedit and reword it. Please look the section over and make sure that I have not changed what you originally meant to say.

Thanks! --BloodDoll 02:18, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Jovian Federation, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://homepage.mac.com/tatara/nadesicops/nd_j_jovianfed.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Speedy deletion of United Confederation

[edit]

A tag has been placed on United Confederation requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. --Snigbrook (talk) 21:52, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source/license for Image:Moff Jerjerrod.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Moff Jerjerrod.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 15:23, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:CS ScreenShot.JPG

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:CS ScreenShot.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Problems with upload of File:Benelli mr1.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Benelli mr1.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Hey! Based on your edits to NationStates, I thought maybe you would be interested that I started a series of userboxes for the game. Feel free to add any or add your own!-🐦Do☭torWho42 () 05:46, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
