U.S. Route 53 in Iowa

I see that, on Draft:1926 Iowa highway renumbering, you added U.S. Route 53 in Iowa. I have never heard of this highway. What do you know about it? From that page, all I can deduce is that it either was proposed for what became US 55, or that it was designated (unsigned?) and then redesignated as US 55. I want to learn more about former highways and former designations (and proposed designations) for current highways. Thank you for educating me. Charlotte Allison (Morriswa) (talk) 21:26, 12 January 2018 (UTC)

I'll discuss it with you on IRC. –Fredddie 21:30, 12 January 2018 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of U.S. Route 34 in Iowa

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article U.S. Route 34 in Iowa you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Courcelles -- Courcelles (talk) 07:41, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

Iowa 53 on Google Maps

Still shows on Google Maps, Iowa 44 along north Iowa 15 too!!Alexlatham96 (talk) 00:57, 30 January 2018 (UTC) Iowa 230 also!

So? –Fredddie 01:36, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Lengths

Was the length of then-Iowa 74 the same as pre-2003 Iowa 94? and was the length of Iowa 80 the same as pre-2003 Iowa 406?Alexlatham96 (talk) 02:13, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of U.S. Route 34 in Iowa

The article U.S. Route 34 in Iowa you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:U.S. Route 34 in Iowa for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already been on the main page as an "In the news" or "Did you know" item, you can nominate it to appear in Did you know. Iowa 95 in the 1980 decommissioning

It was deleted on July 1, 1980, along other roads decommissioned on the same day, and became Iowa 951!!!Alexlatham96 (talk) 01:21, 1 February 2018 (UTC) I wanted to confirm; see https://iowadot.gov/analytics/PrimaryRteDescrips/Adams/IA%2095.htm

Washington Road

You nominated Washington Road for deletion, saying that it isn't notable. I don't know exactly what you meant, but the road is a major retail corridor, provides access to many other roads in the area, and is the main access to the area surrounding the Augusta National Golf Club, where the Masters Tournament is played.

What do you suggest that I do? On a side note, in this sandbox of mine, I am in process of making a "Transportation in Augusta, Georgia" page. I already had a "Washington Road" section before your nomination. I have copied the information in the road article and pasted it as a hidden comment, pending on the result of the deletion nomination. Should the road be redirected to my page and then be changed to the actual page after I finish and put the other page in the main namespace? Or is there any other course of action that you suggest? Thank you for helping me with this. Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 19:14, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

It's clear to me that you didn't read closely what I said in the PROD notice. I didn't say the road wasn't notable, if it wasn't, I would have nominated the component state highway articles as well. I said the road's name wasn't notable. You say that it's an important road and it connects to notable places, but being important doesn't mean notable and notable places don't confer their notability to the streets upon which they lie. I also said that the article doesn't demonstrate how the road is notable; typically, that's done in a history section. Street articles are slightly different than state highway articles in that the scope of what gets an article is much narrower, that's why I said it would be better covered in the state highway articles.
Anyway, read over the notability guidelines at WP:USST for some insight as to when street articles are appropriate. –Fredddie 20:59, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
I did read it. I guess I didn't fully understand what you said. It's hard to get history for streets, especially when highway maps don't have inset maps too far back in time. What did you think about my idea of redirecting it to my user page for now? Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 21:28, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
That's effectively WP:USERFYing the page, so go for it. –Fredddie 21:32, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

Interstate highway templates reviewed

. Why did you revert the edits I made? J4lambert (talk) 17:49, 25 March 2018 (UTC)

This isn't something we do with three-digit Interstates, so I don't feel it's necessary on two-digit Interstates. Per WP:BRD, we should now have a wider discussion about this, but my talk page is not the place for that. –Fredddie 20:47, 25 March 2018 (UTC)

Upcoming changes to wikitext parsing

Hello,

There will be some changes to the way wikitext is parsed during the next few weeks. It will affect all namespaces. You can see a list of pages that may display incorrectly at Special:LintErrors. Since most of the easy problems have already been solved at the English Wikipedia, I am specifically contacting tech-savvy editors such as yourself with this one-time message, in the hope that you will be able to investigate the remaining high-priority pages during the next month.

There are approximately 10,000 articles (and many more non-article pages) with high-priority errors. The most important ones are the articles with misnested tags and table problems. Some of these involve templates, such as infoboxes, or the way the template is used in the article. In some cases, the "error" is a minor, unimportant difference in the visual appearance. In other cases, the results are undesirable. You can see a before-and-after comparison of any article by adding ?action=parsermigration-edit to the end of a link, like this: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Arthur_Foss?action=parsermigration-edit (which shows a difference in how {{infobox ship}} is parsed).

If you are interested in helping with this project, please see Wikipedia:Linter. There are also some basic instructions (and links to even more information) at https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-ambassadors/2018-April/001836.html You can also leave a note at WT:Linter if you have questions.

Thank you for all the good things you do for the English Wikipedia. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 21:18, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Arizona State Route 202 map

In your recent edit, you switched the map type but in doing so the currently under construction section has been omitted. Can you correct this? MB 21:08, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

Good catch. I didn't realize I was omitting anything so I'll fix it. –Fredddie 23:20, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

Avenue of the Saints

I understand why you reverted the broken code on the Avenue of the Saints page. However, I would like to learn how to add the state columns to "Major intersections"/"Exit list" sections when there is at least one usage of the {{Jctbridge}} template. What is the proper procedure for that page? Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 09:53, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

At the risk of sounding unhelpful, have you looked at the template documentation, specifically the river parameters? The answer is in there. –Fredddie 11:34, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

Interstate 80 in Iowa scheduled for TFA

This is to let you know that the Interstate 80 in Iowa article has been scheduled as today's featured article for July 21, 2018. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/July 21, 2018, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1100 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so. Georgia shields

I changed the shields on the List of state routes in Georgia (U.S. state) page, but many of them didn't display. Another editor came behind me and added a bunch of "noshield" parameters to the page. Unless I go through it myself, you will have to figure out which ones. Also, what is the code for changing the shields on the List of special state routes in Georgia (U.S. state) page? I tried using "SR-<type> <year>", "GA <year>-<type>", and "SR <year>-<type>", but none worked. Thank you so much for all of your help. And for making the period shields. I still want to know just how you know what the designs looked like. Was it the AAroads shield archive? Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 03:45, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

None of the Connector/Alternate/Truck/etc. shield types were created. Just the regular routes. It looks like Imzadi1979 added noshield to the routes over 1000. I wasn't going to make shields for those routes anyway, so it's fine. –Fredddie 03:48, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
@Morriswa: (talk page stalker) I added the |noshield=yes for those which are obviously broken, like the four-digit entries at the bottom of the list. None of them were calling vintage markers; instead they were trying to use current markers, but display raw wikicode instead of a redline for the missing image.
As for period special routes, the convention has been |type=SR year-banner, assuming each variation has been added already. For example, in Michigan, we can use |type=M 1948-Bus to get a period-correct business route assembly. Imzadi 1979  04:03, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
@Fredddie and Imzadi1979:, has the functionality for special routes mentioned above been implemented for Georgia? Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 04:25, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
Not yet, no. –Fredddie 04:32, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

Alberta Secondary Highway Shields

Hi Fredddie,

Thank you for doing up the sign shields from some of the old Alberta Secondary (now 500-986) highways. I was wondering what program you use? I tried creating some shields (AB 14X, AB 16X, MB 190), but they didn't turn out as well as I used a converter that makes the which background transparent (on 14X & 16X) or pixelise (MB 190). Also, technically the pre-2000 secondary highway shields aren't historically accurate as they used a slightly different shield (see Page 4; IB-100-O on http://www.transportation.alberta.ca/Content/docType252/Production/IB_ROUTE-TRAILBLAZER.PDF), do you know if it would be feasible to create a replica of the Secondary Highway shield? I know copyright restrictions might not allow it.

Feel free to respond on my talk page.

Thanks! -- MuzikMachine (talk) 22:58, 30 June 2018 (UTC)

"Old" county roads in Florida

I see that you reverted part of my edit on the List of county roads in Hendry County, Florida. County Road Old 78 (Hendry County, Florida) is signed with the normal county highway pentagon-like shield with a like-colored rectangular shield with the word "OLD" above it. I'm not sure about County Road Old 50 (Lake County, Florida), but I assume it is the same. Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 01:24, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

Blocked in what?

Why did you remove my name in the participants for Wikiproject roads? hueman1 (talk) 09:52, 6 August 2018 (UTC)

@Fredddie: If that blocked user (User:Tren Ligero GDL) re-adds his name to the list, and HueMan1 adds his to the list, you should be removing only Tren Ligero GDL's name. Thanks. TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 18:37, 6 August 2018 (UTC)

@HueMan1: Oh man, I am sorry! I only meant to remove Tren Ligero GDL's name, since he's indefinitely blocked (and a sockmaster). I definitely didn't mean to remove yours. –Fredddie 22:52, 6 August 2018 (UTC)

@HueMan1: I am. I am mostly off Wikipedia, through I began editing here once again. You did ask me about change in road signs I created, but I can't reply as I am preoccupied with other work. And please, be on topic as I went here because I see you ask Fredddie about why your name is repeatedly removed from Wikipedia:WikiProject Highways/Participants. --TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 20:31, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

NY Route 22 Map KML

Thank you for creating it in time for Monday's Main Page turn but ... you drew the way the road was until 2008, going all the way to the Canadian border. Today it officially ends in Mooers, at its junction with US 11. Do you think you could amend the map source file appropriately before tomorrow evening? Daniel Case (talk) 06:10, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

Sure. I used the KML that was linked on the page, so that needs to be updated as well. –Fredddie 06:12, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
@Mr. Matté: you did the KML in 2016, could you update it? I tried just now and it exploded in size. –Fredddie 06:38, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
When I first updated the KML back then, the file itself was made up of a lot of segments so at the time, I only combined them and made spot checks where the line was way off. The new KML has been updated (with some corrections in three places) and run through the QGIS simplifier to bring the file size down. —Mr. Matté (Talk/Contrib) 17:21, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
@Daniel Case: the map has been updated as requested. I couldn't see it right away, but you'll see the line no longer goes to Canada. –Fredddie 17:31, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
Thank you! Daniel Case (talk) 02:21, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

NOT URGENT On Historic Markers in Ulster County, NY page's ability to properly show a map

Not-Named-Fredddie:

OF COURSE FEEL FREE TO DELETE THIS SINCE YOU ARE BUSY AND YOUR JOB IS NOT TECH SUPPORT FOR WIKIPEDIA

I noticed you working on the KML (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Template:Attached_KML/List_of_New_York_State_Historic_Markers_in_Ulster_County,_New_York) for the List of New York State Historic Markers in Ulster County, New York.

The map at the top right of the historic marker page does not work. (1) it uses a langauge other than English (German?), (2) it opens zoomed full out and centered on Kyrgyzstan instead of opening zoomed into Ulster County, NY where the markers are.

Can you tell me how I can learn how to fix it. Thanks in advance, HighAtop94 (talk) 16:02, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

I won't delete it. I was poking around the other day to see if I could figure out what's going on. I couldn't. I'm still looking into it though. –Fredddie 23:47, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

PHL infobox road/color

@Fredddie: Can you change the colours for the template? Almost every article seems to be all in green, while Asian highway (AH) is colour brown. Can you change N type to white, E type to yellow and AH type to blue? Thanks! --hueman1 (talk) 10:48, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

US 80 in Arizona Reassessment

I spent the good part of yesterday and today updating the U.S. Route 80 in Arizona article to have more reliable sourcing and more information. The self published sources have been replaced with the best sources I could find. I was wondering if you could please take a look at the work I've done and possibly re-assess the article? Thanks. -MatthewAnderson707 (talk) 07:08, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

Sure thing. Do you have access to Newspapers.com and Newspaperarchive.com via WP:TWL? They're invaluable resources, but I'm not sure what Arizona newspapers they have. –Fredddie 13:13, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
@MatthewAnderson707: I have a handful of easy things for you.
  1. Are the references in the lead necessary? If the cited facts are covered and cited in the prose, you don't need to cite them in the lead. Nothing looks particularly exclamatory that would need a reference.
  2. Since there are multiple sections in the history section, I would summarize them before the Background section.
  3. Do you think it would be a good idea to have the year you used for the infobox junction list match up with the junction list section?
Otherwise it looks great. I'll go ahead and bump to B-Class. –Fredddie 13:31, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the further suggestions. I implimented two of your three suggested changes this morning. I'll try to get around to a history section summary when I can. Would I need to source the summary when I do type it? Thanks. -MatthewAnderson707 (talk) 16:13, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Yes, the mini-lead has to be cited. I got dinged at FAC for that a while back. –Fredddie 16:52, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Arizona has a lot of resources on Newspaper Archive - or at least they did when my subscription was still active. Interstate 8 shows what they had. --Rschen7754 17:34, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

New map for US 80 in Arizona

I noticed you change the map source. The route is a tiny bit inaccurate to the 1951 routing when matched up with aerial photos of the time and data from Jeff Jensen's book. Is there any way I could fix it? Either way, I really appreciate the help on the article. Thanks. -MatthewAnderson707 (talk) 12:14, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

I have the KML data on Google Maps' My Maps that I could share with you. Then it would just be a matter of moving the line. There's a convoluted process of getting that data onto the maps. I can do that later today. Just send me an email and I'll share that link with you. –Fredddie 14:22, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

@MatthewAnderson707: have you had a chance to edit the map yet? –Fredddie 23:53, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
@Fredddie: Sorry for taking way too long to reply. I noticed the KML is based off directions using existing road segments. There are certain segments of US 80 that have changed very noticeably since 1951 that can't be changed with the file. Is there any chance we could copy over the data from the attached KML and make that the map? I made that on Google Earth a while ago and it traces over segments of US 80 that don't exist anymore. Out of curiosity, why wasn't the OSM based map working out? Thanks. -MatthewAnderson707 (talk) 18:41, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
It worked, but when you zoomed in, there were areas that didn't correspond to current roads. It was especially noticeable in downtown Phoenix. So I tried to redraw it as closely as I could with current roads. That's all. –Fredddie 04:19, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
@Fredddie: Thanks for the clarification. Also, I did update the map you made to include some streets and old curves your map left out. I think Google Maps wise that's about as good as it'll get. -MatthewAnderson707 (talk) 03:17, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
I saw the original message. I'll get to it when I get to it. –Fredddie 04:36, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

Arizona 84

When you get the chance, can you please re-evaluate the article for me? I've spent the last month re-writing and cleaning it up. Thanks. -MatthewAnderson707 (talk) 09:25, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

@MatthewAnderson707: without digging too deeply into it, I would say the RD should be at least twice the length it is now. I know there's not a whole lot to say about rural Arizona, but it can be done without going turn-by-turn. One device I try to use is that I try to write X miles per paragraph. Here, I'd write about 10 miles per paragraph and then maybe a short paragraph about the Eloy-Picacho section. –Fredddie 13:13, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Requested shields explanation

I'm sure you saw my request for shields. I know that you made the 1920 shields for Georgia. I was trying to get 1920s-era shields for some highways for the 1925-1927 highway I'm working on an article for. I'm not pressing you or rushing you. I just wanted to give a little explanation of why I'm requesting these. Thank you in advance. Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 15:06, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

I saw the original request. I've been working 10+-hour days for the last two weeks without a day off, so I'll get to it when I get to it. –Fredddie 04:40, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
I'm sorry that you have been so busy lately. I kind of wondered why I hadn't seen you around much recently. As I said, I wasn't trying to push you or rush you, just giving you a further explanation of my request. I really appreciate all your help. Be safe, and get some rest and sleep when you can. Remember, I used to be in the Navy, so I understand long hours sometimes. Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 14:23, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
Also, I was wondering: Were there NC shields from a period earlier than 1945? I know Georgia had the 1920 shields, but did NC have a similar set? If so, could they be used? Thanks. Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 01:20, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

U.S. Route 70S/270

Sorry for leaving during our IRC conversation. I have to work tonight and had some errands to do beforehand.

I couldn't find any connection between the US 270 in Tennessee and the one in Georgia and North Carolina. Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 02:36, 3 December 2018 (UTC)

@Fredddie: thank you for your edits of U.S. Route 270 (Georgia–North Carolina). I wanted to make that page for a long time, and it felt good making an actual page. The shields are still missing, but you can get to them whenever you can. You are very helpful. Morriswa (Charlotte Allison) (talk) 15:10, 3 December 2018 (UTC)

North Dakota Highway 22B

SD 248

I made a page for South Dakota Highway 248. Someone moved it into draft space because it was incomplete. I was fine with that, and planned to finish it over the next couple months as I figured out how to use everything better. I come back the next day and the draft page has been completely removed from the site. Why? Xninetynine (talk) 16:15, 12 December 2018 (UTC)X99

@Xninetynine: I don't mind an article on SD 248 per se, but we don't even have an article about US 16 in South Dakota. Currently, that's because the present length of US 16 is only 540 miles and WP:USRD guidelines dissuade us from creating state-detail articles without good reason. Now, US 16 used to extend to Michigan, so really we should have articles for South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. U.S. Route 16 in Michigan exists and is a FA.
So what I'm thinking is that Draft:U.S. Route 16 in South Dakota should go forward. Anything that you wanted to say about SD 248 should go there. We can easily talk about what US 16 is presently and also talk about what it used to be. I did exactly that in U.S. Route 75 in Iowa and that article turned out great.
Please don't harbor any ill will towards me. I love how eager you are, I just want to direct your energy to the right place. In the case of SD 248, that energy should be directed at US 16. –Fredddie 16:57, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
So your suggestion is that I rename the page. That makes sense. I can start on the US 16 in SD draft page, but it will probably look as bad as the SD 248 article at first. Xninetynine (talk) 17:49, 12 December 2018 (UTC)X99
Rename the page? No. Write about all of US 16 instead? Yes. –Fredddie 18:38, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
So expand the History section then, or make the state-specific page? I'm confused. Xninetynine (talk) 19:46, 12 December 2018 (UTC)X99
I'm saying Draft:U.S. Route 16 in South Dakota should have a lengthy history section that talks about the part that went from Rapid City to Minnesota. –Fredddie 20:32, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
I will expand on that section. I just ran out of time earlier. Xninetynine (talk) 00:49, 13 December 2018 (UTC)X99
How have you run out of time already? Researching the route will take weeks not hours. –Fredddie 02:09, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
I didn't mean "ran out of time" as being unable to do anything else to the page. I just had other things on my schedule for that day. Also, since part of the route still exists, how would the 'major intersections' list work? Would all of the former intersections have to be color coded? Xninetynine (talk) 15:04, 13 December 2018 (UTC)X99

That's why I suggested looking at U.S. Route 75 in Iowa as an example. It was basically cut in half after the construction of I-29. –Fredddie 00:08, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

County Route 80 (Rockland County, New York)
