Can a couple of you help me because I have a wiki site and I cant seem to get templates to display like they do here at wikipedia. look here http://test.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyler_Mason I also have been asking over at mediawiki but no one seems to know whats wrong. All the templates and code came from wikipedia.
- You could try asking at WP:VPT but that's about supporting this site; if your code works here but not somewhere else it's really the people at somewhere else you need to ask, i.e. tech support for whatever software your wiki site runs on. I think many templates used here have been developed locally for use on this site, so the code for them won't be present on other sites. The German Wikipedia, for instance, has many templates different from the English one. It may be a case (if you are using the Mediawiki software) of copying across the code for templates that you want to use; and that could be complex because many of them call each other. No because it doesnt work at your test site either. Take code from a porn star bio here and post the code on test.wikipedia.org and it doesnt display properly. - Templates are developed locally on each different WP. The mediawiki software doesn't include them all; test.wikipedia.org doesn't necessarily have copies of all the templates that people have developed on the English Wikipedia, any more than it includes all the French, Dutch, Spanish etc ones. To see this, on en:wp type in the search box "Template:Infobox adult biography" and up it pops: now click "View history" and you see this, the history of that template's development on en:wp. Try the same on the test wiki and you won't find it - that template doesn't exist there, you are probably getting some default when you call it. If you want to use en:wp templates on your private wiki you will have to copy them across, and as I said you may find it a complex task because many call other templates which call yet others. I understand all of that but thats not the problem because on my wiki and the test.wikipedia site I copied all the templates from wikipedia.
