Talk page etiquette
Hi Frank, I wanted to mention a couple things. I noticed you were making minor edits to another user's comment. While I appreciate that you took the time to clean up the markup that editor used, it is better to leave typos and mistakes alone (or to ask the person who wrote them to fix them) than to change them yourself. See WP:TALK#Others' comments for more on that. The second thing I wanted to say is to ask you to please use edit summaries more often in your editing, on all pages you edit. Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. See m:Help:Edit summary if you want to know more about edit summaries. Thanks! BigNate37(T) 22:39, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Frank, thank you for your numorous contributions to Wikipedia. There is something else you could do. Please stop adding unneccisary links to articles like you did to Interleague Play We appreciate your contributions to these articles, however, sometimes, the simpler the better. Edit to The Game
I saw that you removed The Game (Michigan-Ohio State) from The Game disambiguation page. I don't have a horse in this race--I attended neither university, although I am an Ohio native--but there was discussion about this at Talk:Michigan-Ohio State rivalry, and many uses were cited. And a quick Google turns up several references, including an OSU shirt that prominently displays the phrase. Is it really so obscure and little-used that it should be excluded? It seems to me that if it's used enough that including it on the dab page might help somebody find the article they are looking for, it should be kept in. Regards --ShelfSkewed Talk 22:25, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

- Hey, Frank - judging by your recent edits, it looks like you missed the (somtimes testy!) revived discussion on the "The Game" issue at the UM-OSU page - Talk:Michigan-Ohio_State_rivalry#The_Game. The upshot was to include the language that you removed. (For what it's worth, I agree with your general sense of the thing, but when it became clear that the phrase was going to be there one way or another, I did my best to see that it was at least accurate, or arguably so anyhow.) - Thank you, I was unaware of the discussion. Frank Anchor, (R-OH) (talk, contribs) 19:13, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Sure - as a liberal grad of the University of Michigan, I'm always happy to help out a conservative OSU counterpart! (Do you see by the way this afternoon's tweak by User:Baseballfan789? I think that is a better place for the point than the lead paragraph -) JohnInDC (talk) 19:23, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- thanks for the help, and I agree the page is better after Baseballfan789's edit. Frank Anchor, (R-OH) (talk, contribs) 23:46, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Terrell Owens
- Hello. I've deleted the page and rollbacked your addition of the Baltimore Ravens category from Terrell Owens who, I'm sure you're well aware never played for the Ravens. On a sort of side-note, you might want to remove the fake "new messages banner" from your userpage. To newbies, it is confusing and to experienced editors it's an old joke that's grown stale. It does not fool anyone except the occasional newbie and it makes you look bad. Pascal.Tesson 05:16, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Point well taken, he was on the team for only a couple days. I guess that doesnt warrant the category since he never actually played for themFrank Anchor 21:02, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for re-re-adding the trivia section on Cleveland Indians. I was going to do it myself (User:Montco had done some edits in the interim, so I was waiting for word back from him on whether his edits involved integrating the trivia into the article) but you beat me to it ;) --DachannienTalkContrib 19:42, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Redundant references
Your removal of the "redundant references" wasn't necessary. By removing the "redundant" reference, you're essentially unreferencing the first sentence that was referenced and you're only referencing the second sentence. This is against Wikipedia's policies, so I'd ask that you leave the references. Wlmaltby3 – talk/contribs 00:33, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Another editor has added the "{{prod}}
" template to the article Oakland Zoo (cheering section), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}}
template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. BJBot (talk) 18:44, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Oakland Zoo (cheering section)
An editor has nominated Oakland Zoo (cheering section), an article which you have created or worked on, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Oakland Zoo (cheering section) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 16:59, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
AfD on Dr. King
I thought I should tell you: I removed the "past AfD" notice because the AfD for that article was not a legitimate AfD, but a form of vandalism, and taking it seriously would not meet with our WP:DENY policy towards such mischief. --Orange Mike | Talk 05:00, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Edit summaries, reverts
I do understand what's been happening here but nonetheless, calling this kind of edit vandalism isn't needed and only stirs things up even more. You could simply put a bulleted comment somewhere on the project page noting the editor's revert of the tag. Edit warring is always harmful and disruptive. Only a friendly note though! Speedy deletion of Dave's Markets
A tag has been placed on Dave's Markets requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. ukexpat (talk) 19:46, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- I do not believe the article meets the criteria for speedy deletion (other wise I would not have created it). It establishes notability. I would have protested the tag myself but it appears that another user has already removed it. Frank Anchor Talk to me 20:01, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Ohio Conferences stuff
Just thought I'd see what you had been able to work on, since I'm not watchlisting every article, so we could make the necessary edits to the big table of articles. I naturally think the attempts to enforce time specific editing and take back to an AfD are ridiculous, but I am still going to try to demonstrate that there has been progress on a few articles just to point out how completely ridiculous the threats that some keep making are. matt91486 (talk) 13:23, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Llllloyd Carr, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from an implausible typo.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you believe that there is a reason to keep the redirect, you can request that administrators wait a while before deleting it. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}}
to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Qwfp (talk) 17:34, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Your highly-appropriate recent reversion of vandalism to your userpage was unfortunately accompanied by an incivil summary. Please maintain a more civil level of discourse, even when reacting to the actions of anonymous jerks. Co Champs
Frank, I reverted your recent change to 2008 Penn State Nittany Lions football team. There was a discussion on the CFB wikiproject talk page a while back (1-2 years ago?) regarding conference championships where there is no championship game. The consensus was to leave the infobox saying "<Conference> Champions" even though there may have been more than one, the rationale was to avoid terms like "Tri-Champions" or "Quad-Champions" when there were more than two tied at the top. Each team would be credited as "Champions" in the infobox and would include the co- or tri-championship explanation in the game notes or season summary section of the season page. Thanks for your help. - Billma (talk) 23:42, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Table v. list
I understand your rationale for doing it that way, but I think my point (that finding specific teams is easier in a table) is equally valid. Since neither of us has a clearly superior argument, would one of these formats work better?
AFC East | AFC North | AFC South | AFC West |
---|---|---|---|
Buffalo Bills 2 | Cincinnati Bengals 0 | etc. | etc. |
NFC East | NFC North | NFC South | NFC West |
Dallas Cowboys 6 | etc. | etc. | etc. |
OR
AFC Team | # of Selections | NFC Team | # of Selections |
---|---|---|---|
New York Jets | 7 | Dallas Cowboys | 6 |
etc. | etc. |
Samer (talk) 17:28, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
- Either of those would work over league. i just think the table with every team listed separately is extremely long. I would probably lean toward the one without the divisions because the game is AFC vs. NFC, not AFC east vs. NFC east vs. AFC north etc. Frank Anchor Talk to me 18:19, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
- I hate to butt in on your conversation, but I would prefer the one with the conferences, but it should be kept sortable, NewYork483 (talk) 02:24, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
