Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, FortheEverglades. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Friends of the Everglades, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Giraffer (talk·contribs) 14:50, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Giraffer,
Thank you for letting me know. This is my first time editing a wikipedia page. I removed the promotional language and links. I will look in to how to disclose my affiliation.
Thank you,

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website, I have blocked this account from editing. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy.

It also appears that your account is intended to be used for the purpose of telling the world about an organization, person or cause that you consider worthwhile. Unfortunately, many good causes are not sufficiently notable for their own Wikipedia article, and all users are discouraged from editing in any area where they have an inherent conflict of interest. You may wish to consider one of these alternative outlets. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username on this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken or in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

Thanks for all the help to ensure I am in compliance with the terms. :) FortheEverglades (talk) 18:13, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have requested a new username. FortheEverglades (talk) 18:13, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Normally you're supposed to request an unblock and another administrator is supposed to review it, but since I see you've been renamed I'll unblock you myself. I would encourage you to read our conflict of interest policy when writing about an organization with which you are affiliated, it is already clear on the article about the Friends of the Everglades but would also apply to other articles which might be associated with it. If you have any questions feel free to ask me, and if I don't know the answer I can steer you to the right place. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 01:56, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
