Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, FlyingFeatherette, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Vickie Corner, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. A tag has been placed on User:FlyingFeatherette requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

Request reason:

It is not my intention to advertise or promote myself, my company or any third party content. My biography is a true reflection of what I have achieved in my career and I have tried to keep the wording as factual as possible in line with other pages on Wikipedia, It would be helpful if you could please guide me so that the content does not contravene Wikipedia guidelines

Decline reason:

Writing about oneself on Wikipedia is strongly discouraged because we are bad judges of our own notability. I see no indication that you meet Wikipedia's standards of notability, and half the article you wrote about yourself did not provide any information on you but on your company's flagship product - with no explanation of how that information was relevant to you, personally. If we ignore all the information in the page you wrote that either was not about you or not based on reliable third-party sources (IMDb is not a reliable source for biographical content), we end up with a single sentence giving your employer and job title. So yes, turning that into an article about "what you have achieved" is self-promotion. Huon (talk) 01:09, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Thank you for your feedback. I would like to rectify this could you please advise me on how I can do this and make the content on the page factual, I did reference similar pages for other television producers, one of which was Keith Chapman and thought I should follow the same format. This is the first time I have created a page about an individual and would appreciate your assistance

Decline reason:

Given your edit history, the only way I would consider an unblock would be if you agreed to avoid editing any articles about yourself, your company and your company's productions. If you'd still like to edit Wikipedia under those conditions, please feel free to file a new unblock request. Otherwise, I recommend turning to alternative outlets. Request reason:

Thank you for coming back to me I would appreciate it if you could unblock me as a user and I agree not to edit any articles about myself, my company or my company's productions. I had originally created the page in line with other similar pages for television producers and was not aware that I had contravened the Wikipedia guidelines. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention and hope we can resolve this matter. If you agree to unblock me as a user will the page be reinstated albeit in a simplified form? :Could I please have a response to my recent message requesting that I be unblocked as a user. I agree not to edit any articles about myself, my company or my company’s productions. Thank you for your help and I look forward to hearing from you. ::May I please request that you reconsider my unblock. I understand that contributions uploaded by me contravened Wikipedia’s guidelines and I promise not to write about or promote myself, my company or any third party. Going forward I promise to contribute responsibly to Wikipedia.

Accept reason:

OK, as you can see below, there is agreement that you can be given another chance. I hope you can now edit in peace, without getting blocked again. Do be careful to avoid making the same mistakes again. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 20:22, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Alex Shih and Yunshui: Now that FlyingFeatherette has indicated a willingness to accept the conditions that Yunshui suggested, do either of you have any view as to whether the account should be unblocked?
  • FlyingFeatherette, I sympathise with your frustration at the time it is taking to get a response to your request, but posting multiple unblock requests at the same time is very unlikely to accelerate the process. All it does is making whoever reviews your request spend extra time and trouble closing all of the requests. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 14:50, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
