Re: Tiger Stadium

Here's the same note that I just posted on the Tiger Stadium talk page:

Sorry for not discussing the "move" and sorry for not realizing how to properly move an article. I didn't think there would be anything controversial about the two major Tiger Stadiums agreeing not to hog the Tiger Stadium page. As for the edit history issue, I didn't think that would be a big deal. By moving Tiger Stadium to Tiger Stadium (Detroit), the old edit history would still always be at the original Tiger Stadium page for anyone who wanted to go back there looking for something. As you know, what I did was I cut-and-pasted the Tiger Stadium page over to Tiger Stadium (Detroit). But I also did a google search to find all the instances of "Tiger Stadium" on wikipedia, and I went to a large number of those pages and changed the all links that pointed to Tiger Stadium and changed them so that they now point to Tiger Stadium (Detroit). Once again, sorry about that, but I didn't think it would be controversial. Anyway, the point is that this isn't something that is going to go away. In the years to come, more and more people will get frustrated by the fact that Detroit is hogging the Tiger Stadium page. Before the Tiger Stadium page was created on behalf of Detroit's Tiger Stadium, the creator should have searched the internet to make sure their wasn't any other major Tiger Stadium out there. Because of his or her negligence, that is why the situation is the way it is today. Wikiwopbop 06:31, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Oshawa soccer

Hi. I see you removed the section on Oshawa soccer teams. I wasn't sure if it was notable or not, so I just rewrote and reformatted it so it was semi-legible. I was thinking that it wasn't particularly notable, but I know nothing about soccer in the city, so I thought I'd leave it for a more experienced editor to assess. Now I know. Blotto adrift 21:03, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

I'd be more inclined to add teams such as the Flames, a former professional soccer team, or InterOshawa, former Ontario Mens champions. The other clubs all deal with youth soccer. Flibirigit 21:19, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi. This may not be an area of expertise, but I know you're local and I was wondering if I could ask for your help. I wrote this article, but it has been flagged for COI. They've asked me to get someone else to take a look at it and/or rewrite it. I would be prepared to make some changes, but I don't know if there's any point with the COI designation. It seems that anything I write on this is suspect, however much I may try to write a decent article. Would you be willing to take a look? Much appreciated. Blotto adrift 18:25, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Just as an FYI, I also asked Bearcat to comment as well. As I noted on his page, I don't want to impose on your time by asking for anything that's going to take a long time. But any suggestions are appreciated. Blotto adrift 18:47, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
I will try to have a look at it on Monday, May 14th, 2007. Flibirigit 16:31, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks - that was definitely an improvement. Really appreciate your help. Blotto adrift 18:14, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Scarborough Van Assembly

Honestly man stop ripping the pictures of the Scarborough Van Assembly page please. Feel free to make changes but leave the pics!! :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.195.91.66 (talkcontribs)

The photos infringe on copyright restrictions. Putting such photos in the article puts Wikipedia at undue risk for such violations. Flibirigit 16:51, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
I think Flibirigit's right, those photos are copyright violations, and therefore cannot be on Wikipedia without the author's consent, and seeing as how these are publicity photos, I don't think you are the author like the image claims. Croat Canuck Say hello or just talk 19:49, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
There is also the problem that the images do not have a valid fair use claim under Wikipedia's rules. A copyrighted picture of a van is just decoration on an article about a building/plant. Per Wikipedia policy, that has to be removed. If you really want a van in the article, I suggest grabbing your camera, and finding a van of the model that would have been built there. An image you create yourself, licenced under the GFDL or released to the public domain would be fine. Resolute 04:54, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Re: Lauren hertel

Ummm... I agree with you it is very borderline, searching "Lauren Hertel" brings up 1,220 hits on google though so I dunno. It also really, really badly needs a clean-up. I would put it up for AFD and if its worthy to stay it will be consensussed(?) to stay. Croat Canuck Say hello or just talk 21:56, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

I am going to argue that this individual is not notable, though again, it is close. It definitely reads like an autobiography though. Needs a lot of work to become a real article, imnsho. Resolute 22:12, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Oshawa ward system

Just wondering if you had anything . Someone has been adding POV-ish commentary over the decision to switch to an at-large system. I've been reverting, but added a brief writeup on the issue. Blotto adrift 22:43, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Rollback

I see you quite a bit reverting vandalism, and I thought the rollback feature would be of use to you. It used to be admin-only, but it's now open to almost anyone. It is much more efficient way to revert vandalism, and shouldn't be used when a more detailed edit summary is needed. If you wish for me to remove it, just say so and I'll do it. Nindaywama

Nope. YOU appear to be promulgating an edit war because of YOUR biased POV. If anyone needs blocking, you do. I'd love to, but I don't have the power. Try blocking yourself instead of threatening me. If you want arbitration YOU request it, or otherwise leave alone. As it stands I still have a lot of work to do on that article - some of todays edits DO require inline references and as soon as I work out how best to do them they'll get them. But in the meantime I really suggest you stick to hockey. And just remember you were the one who amended MY posts first three times. As it stands, your apparent threat to ban/block me brings into the question of Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?. How does Wiki handle that? 81.86.230.16 (talk) 01:06, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

New Project

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 02:57, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Autopatrolled

Hello, this is just to let you know that I have granted you the "autopatrolled" permission. This won't affect your editing, it just automatically marks any page you create as patrolled, benefiting new page patrollers. Please remember:

  • This permission does not give you any special status or authority
  • Submission of inappropriate material may lead to its removal
  • You may wish to display the {{Autopatrolled}} top icon and/or the {{User wikipedia/autopatrolled}} userbox on your user page
  • If, for any reason, you decide you do not want the permission, let me know and I can remove it
If you have any questions about the permission, don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise, happy editing! Acalamari 18:29, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

The article Ozburn-Hessey Logistics has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

With all the puff taken out it has almost no imformation and does not establish notability. Seems like a promotional article. Not encyclopedic.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Thanks for the thanks re: Michael A. Chambers. I was going to ask if you'd be interested in also filling the redlinks on Olympic Order (everyone should pass GNG and ANYBIO at least) but since it was not hockey related I was tentative to ask. It is also a really daunting task and I don't really have an action plan to get through it. I just think they are all notable enough. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 23:17, 21 February 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

New Page Patrol needs experienced volunteers
  • New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.

Talk page order

I am not a guideline person, but an observer. On pages I see, the DYK credit for an article, generated by the bot, comes after the project banners. Most recent example Talk:Öffnet eure Tore.
