Vandalism
[edit]I think this is where I am supposed to put this, I apologize if it's not. Anyway I simply re-added what another user deleted, I don't really see what is wrong with that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.17.122.79 (talk • contribs)
Re: WSYX
[edit]Thanks for the comment regarding my work. Having spent summers in Columbus as a kid, I remembered some stuff about the station in addition to other things I researched. I also re-wrote the entry for WCMH-TV, though your friend and mine CoolKatt number 99999 is once again messing things up for me. Rollosmokes 07:58, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
Prenoceratops pieganensis
[edit]hi, i am working on a posible ilustration on the page Prenoceratops. yet i am having some problems with my sources so i thought you could help me. you see [here] and [here] it apears with shorter front legs. but [here] and [here] it apears with long thin legs. i took the second one becouse it is a picture of the bones, and yet i am not sure becouse the foto is so small.
Another thing i do not get is how many fingers it has. since in none of the sources apears clearly enough.
[here] is what i have done so far. it would be great to have your opinion.LadyofHats 12:02, 26 June 2006 (UTC).
Hay you.
[edit]66.58.206.111 here. Although I admit the quip about how the alumni refer to Fay Galloway Elementary School might have been a tad over-exaggerated, all other changes to that area are completely true and worthy of inclusion in the article. I personally attended the school my entire fifth grade year of elementary school. (It is, in fact, in the Southeast section of the CCSD, which encompasses all of the city of Henderson, and it is a year-round school. And it is, in fact, adjacent to O'Callahan Park.)
Yeah. That's it. Sorry to bother you. :D
"Approving" dinosaur images
[edit]Hi there Firsfron, after I stumbled upon your comment on Sheeps' talk page, I'd like to say something and I hope other people who make drawings will agree with me.
When a drawing is "approved", this is certainly not something that's forever and that's it. When later other people say: "I don't think this drawing is appropriate", for example because there is a better one or because insights have changed or whatever, images sure can be replaced! That's the wiki way. I'm certainly not going to make a fuss about it. Since I also have the impression that the dinosaur project does not have that many active contributors and you seem to feel a weight of responsability on your shoulders about the images' approval, I'd like to say: don't worry, when an image is "approved", it can be "de-approved" (hmm, don't know if this is right...) again when more people look at it later, eg. Dinoguy or others. As I'm only human, I feels nice to read things as 'I like your drawing!' or 'I think it's anatomically correct', those things do not mean that the image will be in the article forever or that it really is correct.
By the way, some images that are in articles today will probably replaced one day (eg. User:Tbc2/notes)... Keep up the good work! Tbc2 17:54, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
PROD on redirects
[edit]Hey -- I noticed we've crossed paths a couple of times on dinosaur-related PRODs of redirects. It turns out PROD is not supposed to be used at all on redirects (see WP:PROD, top paragraph). I have raised the issue of whether prod could be used for redirects on the talk page at Wikipedia talk:Proposed deletion. If you have an opinion, you might want to go there. Mangojuicetalk 15:12, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- No, no: speedy deletion is a different thing from PROD. If a redirect meeds the speedy deletion criteria, go ahead and mark it, for instance, with {{db|CSD R3, no one would ever spell it this wrong again}}. But barring speedy deletion, for now, it's the lengthy process or nothing. Technically. I still think I've seen prodded redirects go through, because not all admins realize this (or maybe they do, but they don't care). Mangojuicetalk 19:54, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
Hi
[edit]Good to hear from you - it's great knowing someone's out there! I wasn't worried about languishing images - don't want to overdo things. However, I have plans for more photos ..... - Ballista 05:39, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Regnosaurus
[edit]Hi - the reason I de-stubbed it is there really isn't too much more one could write on this dinosaur, known from a jawbone only, without etting very technical. I have the Armored Dinosaurs book which has a large amount of very technical information. There are quite alot of stubs. I guess it is all relative, but I would define stubs are the dinos with loads more which could be written (and there are plenty of these) and have equally short articles (eg. Shunosaurus etc.). My idea was that de-stubbing some which are little more than nomina dubia hopefully folks will concentrate on others which can be expanded, but I am happy to leave stub there. cheers Cas Liber 08:28, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Probactrosaurus
[edit]Hi - Info only: remember we were 'talkin' about articles on dinos, in which the word 'dinosaur' did not appear in the text? - just found another - Probactrosaurus (now expanded over 1kB & 'dinosaur' now appears twice, just to make sure!) (Also expanded Sinusonasus, while I was 'at it'). - Ballista 14:21, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Cosmo (Sonic the Hedgehog)
[edit]Sorry. The spellcheck script I was using malfunctioned. The Fox Man of Fire 18:02, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
Two points: 1. that was a plausible misspelling of the kind we keep b/c redirects are cheap (tm), and (2) prod is only for articles. redirects go to WP:RFD for deletion. Cheers. - CrazyRussian talk/email 01:00, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Muttaburrasaurus
[edit]Hi Firsfron,
I tried several times, over the past couple of days, to re-upload the image, so that the article would have the brighter image, but (until just now) kept getting the message 'Cannot find server or DNS Error'. As this message also kept coming through on ordinary edits, I was not even able to reply on the talk pages to mention what was happening.
As I am now able to again edit Wikipedia, I have uploaded the brighter image of the Muttaburrasaurus to Wikipedia. Figaro 08:18, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- I never did find out what the problem was, but it would appear to have happened as a direct result of technical problems which Wikipedia were experiencing. I am delighted that the problem has now evidently been cleared up. Figaro 07:59, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
CoolKatt number 99999
[edit]I think we should blow up the current RfC against CoolKatt and start up a new one, because it seems the current one will not result in some kind of resolution (unlike the BenH RfC). CoolKatt is again labelling my edits as vandalism (specifically on WKBS-TV (Philadelphia) and WGTW-TV) and something really needs to be done. This time, I would like to be the one starting up the RfC. I may even attempt to use mediation as well.
Here's one more gem from CK, from WKBS and WGTW: "!-- Do not remove the merge tag. Doing so is considerd vandalism. --" So, I guess that means anyone who removes HIS mandatory merge tags (or his worthless "trivia") is committing vandalism? You make the call. Rollosmokes 14:53, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- Don't listen to Rollosmokes. He himself is a problem editor. CoolKatt number 99999 15:10, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- YOU are the problem. You seriously need to get real and stop trying to "intimidate" other members with legal threats and telling people it will be "considerd" vandalism if they remove the merge tag. --CFIF (talk to me) 15:12, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Investigation and Arbitration
[edit]On top of a ongoing investigation pending against CK, I have now filed a Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration as one more attempt to settle this. I did this after learning that he filed an investigation request against me, and for me this was the proverbial last straw. Please feel free to comment on it. Rollosmokes 18:36, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Promised new images
[edit]Please take a look and cast your expert eye - User:Ballista/images/Natural History Museum, London - comments welcome - lot more to follow, but I'm only getting little pockets of time to do this work, at present. I'll upload some each day for a bit. - Ballista 05:29, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for looking - uploaded most if not all worthwhile ones, now - we need to decide which I ought to brighten or crop, then I'll upload newer versions asap. - Ballista 21:02, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking so much trouble, trawling thru' all that stuff and making such thoughtful and worthwhile comment. I've fed back to you, for information etc. I'm sorry that there were so many technical faults but I don't think my level of photographic skill, with a basic camera, is sufficient to overcome some of the obstacles as set. If you have any tips in that direction, I'd go back again before the end of the year, and have another go. I might have been able to do something a bit better with my old Praktika TTL camera, with 100% manual control but it broke long ago - Ballista 05:01, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for work on pics, yet again. I think this 'gallery' format works better for me - what do you reckon? - Ballista 05:14, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Hey, I've led you down the paths of unrighteousness - when you edited the mounted Coelophysis image, the original spelling error slipped thru' - sorry - I can't reload image, as it's on your files (actually - as I wrirte this, I suppose I can download it then reload? I'll try. - Ballista 05:21, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- Panic over - it's worked OK - done, sorry about that - Ballista 05:28, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- You wrote:Just how big is that Oxford Museum!?!? It seems like very time you go, you come up with 50 new photos, including dinosaurs you'd never photographed. Are they adding new exhibits every week? It's impressive, but at the same time, a bit intimidating! I guess we've hit the jackpot. :) --Firsfron of Ronchester 08:04, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hold your horses - I think I've plumbed the depths now, pretty much. It's just that, as one looks with more attuned eyes, one sees more. Also, visits tend to be time-limited, owing to real-life commitments. Anyway, it's your fault for salvaging suspect images so well! No - they've not done new exhibits, as far as I know, but there is still a large area cordoned off ....... One can only guess. - Ballista 08:22, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
Abib Sarajuddin
[edit]You have reverted Abib Sarajuddin twice.
Am I incorrect to think it is a mistake to "correct" spelling and grammar errors in quoted material? If so, why didn't you leave a note to that effect? -- Geo Swan 02:50, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Eoraptor
[edit]Hiya, Firstfron
Thanks for the heads-up, I've taken care of it. By the way, that analysis also puts Herrerasaurus outside of Theropoda. Does this mean a question mark also needs to be added to the theropod ranking of the infraorder Herrerasauria and its members? Jerkov 11:07, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
- I've added the question mark to all herrerasaurs, too. Jerkov 19:55, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Congrats on getting this on the main page. I'm sure you worked on it quite a bit! :) --Fang Aili talk 13:13, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, someday I'll have a figure skating article featured and on the main page. The problem is that I really don't know that much about figure skating, so I'd have to do actually book research! :O Or maybe the figure skating wikiproject will get a bunch more members.. I can only hope. --Fang Aili talk 13:42, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
Photo edits
[edit]Hi Firsfron. Just to let you know that I've finally managed to assemble all your edits in my gallery, under "==Edited versions of my original photographs (by other editors)==". Please check that I've not omitted any. Thanks for the great work. Gathered together like this, they show what a huge amount of effort and skill you've expended. mea culpa
[edit]Hi - I have revisited the photographs of that first ill-fated visit to the Oxford Museum, in case I had made further errors. I had! Ornithomimus is Struthiomimus (as per the third visit, in which images are correctly labelled. I must have had a hormonal day, that day (or something). I apologise for dragging you into it, with your beautifully edited shot of the skull. I hope I have now made all the corrections necessary, except to your own files, of course. I have re-uploaded with correct names and captions. I have removed the images from the Ornithomimus page. I think that has now purged all the errors! - Ballista 07:33, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

My Edits
[edit]Hello, I am the user 67.34 and all the the things you said about my edit on PAX TV are wrong. I did not use bad grammar, misspellings, removing wikilinks to other articles or any other things you said about my edits. NONE OF THAT IS TRUE!. There were too many words that didn't make sense like the word "jocularity", and also it had too much run-on words. so I just were correcting it so it would make sense and people can understand what it means. Also, on your main page, please remove the sentence "Please leave the message after the beep". This is not the phone here.--67.34.212.66 21:05, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
Thank you!

"It's not NPOV because my POV is right", eh? I assume you use "universally-accepted" to mean "accepted by everyone important anyway" and "once known as" to mean "still known as but not by anyone important", since it is, in fact, still known as Brontosaurus. The Brontosaurus article gives an example of an organization being aware that it is officially Apatosaurus, but nevertheless choosing to call it Brontosaurus anyway.
That Brontosaurus does not actually refer to a distinct genus is a fact. That it's the result of a misinterpretation by Othniel Marsh is a fact. That using the name today is a "mistake" is not. Readers are free to draw that conclusion from the above two facts themselves if they want, but it's not true that that's the only conclusion that could be drawn. Wikipedia is a place to inform people of what both the scientific community and the general public are doing, it's not a place to tell people what they should do. --Ptcamn 00:16, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Oviraptor/Citipati
[edit]Hey - I wonder if you can help me with the definitive deal on Oviraptor/Citipati - we seem to have a full-blown article on Oviraptor, which reads very like Citipati - are they one and the same? (I think I understood from you, before, that they were). Sorry to be dense but always keen to learn. - Ballista 22:06, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for this - saved me a fair bit of time in research, that I can ill-afford at present - thought you'd know the succinct answer. Sorry to lean on you like that - Ballista 03:29, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
AWB Edits
[edit]Could you possibly mark them as minor? They're cluttering my recent changes. Also, you might want to consider applying for a WP:BOT account if you plan on editing quickly. That being said, I think you're doing something really good. Regards, Alphachimp talk 00:31, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- It is built in. Go to GENERAL --> check MARK ALL AS MINOR. That should work in the latest version. Alphachimp talk 00:36, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Well done - I'll get cropping, just as soon as I have a minute. - Ballista 03:29, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- Done it now - take a look - it may be worth doing a more arty-farty crop on it, with Adobe PhotoShop, if you have ideas (User:Ballista/images/Natural History Museum, London). - 62.3.238.214 04:10, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanx - did you have some (polite!) ideas where to stick it? - Ballista 05:58, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- Kindof in-line with what I was thinking - the Anning page is well-stocked and more would have been a bit silly. I'll give it a go, but not today. BTW - value your comment on T. rex talk page under 'copy edit'. - Ballista 06:34, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
T rex help...
[edit]With Sheepy seemingly out & about & nobody really doing anything other than you & me, I suppose it's up to us to get Tyrannosaurus featured! What do ya say? Anyway, I've done all of Tony1's requests, cited almost everything, now one of the biggest objection reasons is : "Once the refs are put into proper bibliographic style and not just URLs I will support..." What the heck does that mean? Anyway, was wondering if you could help with it & possibly find out where these magazines that they want bibliographic are, since I don't actually read them! Would be much appreciated, as I really think this would be a huge upper for the Dino crowd getting the "king" featured. Anything you can do would help. Spawn Man 23:01, 19 July 2006 (UTC). P.S. thanks for alphabeticalising the cats. P.P.S. Are we "cool" if you know what I mean?....
- Good work so far on the refs... Spawn Man 00:06, 20 July 2006 (UTC). P.S. Can you believe that guy? Saying that my refs are not legit? What's the world come to....?
- On the FAC, Samsara's made some points. I've fixed 2/3 or 2/4, depending on which way you look at it. All that's left of the requests is:
- 1) Make a section about the warm blooded debate. 2) Put refs into bibliographic thingys. 3) Add some more refs. 4) Prune the article some more.
- That's it. It should be easy. I'm not familiar with the warm blooded debate however. There is a long section in the dinosaur article, so I don't know why we have to have the same debate on every article. We should try & summarise the debate however. You're doing a good job on the refs, so that shouldn't take too long & I'll start on the pruning & finding more refs... Thanks, Spawn Man 00:23, 20 July 2006 (UTC).
BTW, I'm going to be off later until tomorrow, so it doesn't matter if you don't get the work done. Plus, sorry for messaging you too much....
- One of the FAC commentors has placed this: "Refereneces 26, 28 and 30 are still wrong. Use This page for an example of perfect referencing." I hope this helps if you wish to continue fixing the refs & footnotes. Thanks a bunch... Spawn Man 02:18, 20 July 2006 (UTC). P.S. (I can smell a barnstar floating your way soon.... )
You're welcome! User:Raccoon Fox • Talk 00:46, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm very concerned about this edit. Could you please explain it? Thanks, Alphachimp talk 04:52, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the good explanation. I assumed that it was something like that, but I just had to ask. Regards, Alphachimp talk 04:59, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
Amiss:
[edit]I'm at a loss as to what to do next with the T rex article. I'll give the article a once over to check for grammar (wow, what a huge reason to object!), but I feel we've done everything else!
- Sandy - More refs. Check. Alphabeticalize catagories. Check.
Copy edit entire text. Will do.Done. - Tobyk777 - More refs. Check. Alphabeticalize catagories. Check.
Copy edit entire text. Will do.Done. Fix reference formats. No idea what to do here, I think this is your dept. - CG - Expand pop culture. Check. Delete other giant theropods section. Check.
- Tony - Correct grammar points he gave. Check.
Copy edit entire text. Will do.Done. - Samsara - Reduce section on feathers. Check. Create warm blood debate section. Check. Delete environment section. Check. Place "more credible" citation sources than dinocards. Check for most. Don't know what he has against them, they're not the back of the cereal box card ya' know...!
So we've done practically all of that! I'm amiss as to what to do next, & I've passed 2 featured articles! It's like they don't actually want this article to go through. When I vote object on a FAC, if the nominator fixes some of my issues, then I at least change my vote to minor object or neutral!! We need to get these objections down, or people will see them all & think they should put their's down too! *Sigh* So it you work on the refs & I work on grammar, then that should fix all their problems. And if they still object I say we appeal to Raul or someone... Spawn Man 22:42, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- I've copy edited grammar throughout the entire article. Funny though, your edit deleted like 10 mins of work though when we conflicted. I'm done copyediting now, the article's all yours... Spawn Man 23:51, 20 July 2006 (UTC).
. P.S. Thanks so much for you support & help....
- Sorry for interrupting your excellent refs work, but I just couldn't wait until we got Trex featured. Here you go! (You don't need to return the favour if you don't want to...). I know we've had our differences, but you've proven you can be a friend despite them (sorry if this all seems a bit smushy...) Spawn Man 00:26, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
2nd-letter cat sorts
[edit]I just noticed that last weekend, you had removed 2nd-letter cat sorts from articles linking to Category:Television stations in Phoenix. It looks as if you and I are working against each other, as I restored them, not realizing that they'd been intentionally removed. Is there a Wikipedia convention against that, or is that just a personal preference of yours? I put them in to break up a list that could possibly reach 70 stations or more. Please let me know your thoughts on this - let's see if we can get on the same page. --dhett 02:10, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your quick response. I'm not here to make waves; if the consensus is no 2nd-letter sorts, I'm good with that. My life won't stop. Don't worry about correcting them; I did 'em, I'll put 'em back. I'm still getting the hang of the whole Wikistyle thing anyway; I've found a number of trangressions I've been committing. I'm curious about the Ronchester in your full name; you're not a former WNY'er, are ya? --dhett 02:47, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Anon entries
[edit](ref: "here. As I said, it's no big deal, it just surprised me, is all. I noticed an anonymous user editing your photo pages and was all, "What the...?" ...") Thanks for picking that up. I visited my 'shadow' user page (stupidly not realising before that such a thing existed) and, as you can see, it's not the first time I 've done such a thing but I've usually noticed, on previous occasions! It only has the one entry on 20th July, however - is that the only one? I can see why you might have been surprised, as it involved playing about on a page that is not easily found by 'just anybody'. BTW, when do you get to hear about the RFA? - Ballista 07:28, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for advice - I don't have it on 'remember me', as other folk use the computer (and we don't use separate log-on, log-off for different users), so each time I go on the machine or call up a new window, to facilitate work, I have to remember to 'log in'. It's a recipe for forgetting occasionally! Ref. RFA - I'd take some homeopathic Argentum nitricum or Dr Bach's Rescue Remedy, if I were in such a situation. However, realistically, you must know that you'll sail thru'. - Ballista 07:53, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
List of Japanese-English words
[edit]I wasn't trying to vandalise or add nonsense. I was in the middle of trying to contribute the number of words per section. I note that Itai-itai sickness and Minamata disease are not listed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 126.86.47.11 (talk • contribs) .
Your RfA
[edit]Firs! I didn't know you had put an RfA up until just now. I'd been meaning to nom you myself for ages now :) Good luck; it seems to be going well so far. Ziggurat 00:37, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hey, no probs! It is weird that it has been so long, but it's spiffy nonetheless. I can't think of anyone who'd do better at the job, so I'm sure it'll all work out well (and if there are objections, I'm sure there will be more than a few of us making sure they're valid; from having observed a few RfAs, the more the nom gets involved with it the worse it's likely to go for them!). Thanks also for the compliments on the new look; I switched it over as a way to celebrate my 5000th edit. It's modelled after User:RexNL's far superior original, with a few tweaks of my own. All the best, Ziggurat 03:19, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Who is this feller?
[edit]Hi - do we have this chap on our list or is he, as yet, unnamed [1]? He looks pretty serious! In danger of showing my ignorance here but curiosity got the better of me. - Ballista 05:29, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks! - Came to the right shop, didn't I? - Ballista 05:52, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
