Live From Memphis
[edit]Fingall, I have recently posted the page Live From Memphis. I immediately recieved a tag ("speedy deletion") from you on the page. I have attempted to re-do the page so that it fits in the wiki criteria. Please advise me if there is anything else I need to do as I believe that Live From Memphis is as much a part of the city of Memphis as any of the other organizations listed here! Thanks, --Cat and Fish 18:58, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure A7 is only for people/groups/companies and can't be applied to products/concepts such as this. I'd suggest retagging. exolon 21:36, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- No problem - if you're not already aware, you can use the {{db-reason|Reason goes here}} tag for those articles you feel warrant speedy deletion but don't fit any of the predefined criteria. exolon 21:58, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Fingall, I am clearly new to the process, and need to learn a thing or two. The Triple Helix website is legitimate and should be included with other Triple Helix information. It is not a commercial organization, and is actually funded by the federal government. I will learn more about the Wiki protocol, and try again. [edit]I just attempted to add the page Merchant Warehouse. Could you please specify what you mean by "inappropriate pages"? I believe the page and the information is unbiased and relevant, and I am curious what you find inappropriate. The goal is obviously to get this page approved, so pleace advice.

[edit]Hey there.
As a heads up, I removed the speedy tag from the article as it now asserted notability. The original version of the article was deleted because it was blanked by the author. Just a pro forma FYI. Happy editing to you! Keegantalk 06:47, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
Kwansaba deletion
[edit]I put the hangon tag on the article and added more information, including why I believe it to be notable. It was again deleted. I am not sure why, as no explanation was given that time. Is it still considered not notable? I placed a lengthy explanation. Maybe I didn't put it in the correct space? I would be appreciative if you could advise me on this as I am new to the community.

I removed your tag because you in fact don't know what you are taking about. If you have questions, please direct them to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Thoroughbred racing. Thanx. Handicapper 18:31, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
Please do not reinsert your tag on an article about which you know nothing and didn't bother to check into before you irresponsibly stuck your tag within a matter of seconds of my posting it. Proper procedure is first to examine it then direct your enquiry , as I already said, to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Thoroughbred racing. Handicapper 18:44, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
Can't find article "Center for UN Reform Education"
[edit]Hello Finngall, Thanks for helping me out with my article. Sorry to bother you, but I'm pretty new at this. Just have a problem. I can't find my article when I search for it. I've tried to look in the deletion log, but it's not there, so it should be up. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jofre, 25 June 2007
Hello again, Thank you so much for taking the time to help me. i tried your sugggestion, but unfortunately it didn't help. I can find my article fine via "contributions", but if I search for it in the search box, it says that there are no such article in Wikipedia. Suggestions? Thanks, Jofre, 25 June 2007
Hi, Thanks for your message. I tried to write the whole title and hit 'go', and that worked, but not with 'search'. So that means that you cannot search for say, 'center for un reform' AND 'wikipedia' in Google. You'll have to know the exact title and go to the Wikipedia site to find the article? There is no way that you can use the search function to find my article? That's too bad. Anyway, thank you for helping me out on this. I'm still learning. Jofre, 25 June 2007
On 18 June you left a final warning on User talk:Orangemaster for vandalism. The same user has just vandalised the football article with an edit summary proclaiming that they had "screwed it up" and inserting disgusting language into the article. I have no idea how this now proceeds as just adding another warning message on their talk page is clearly not going to work. How does it get to the stage of them being put forward to Admins for a possible blocking? thanks ♦Tangerines BFC ♦·Talk 19:52, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

This article is currently in work. It was created less than 30 mins ago, and it is about a mayor of a city with more than 150,000 people. Please give the creator time to flesh it out before tagging it to get nuked. you tagged it one minute after the editor created it. Please take a more thorough look at articles before tagging them indiscriminately. Horologium t-c 23:31, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Note
[edit]Yes, all those contributions by Mitvik did indeed have "peacock terms". That's because he copied them wholesale from tourism sites. Anything that looks like that the whole way through is usually a copyvio; do a Google search for an odd phrase in it and see what you can find.
Just a hint. DS 00:11, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- Also, I'd suggest that you be a bit more careful when nominating articles for speedy deletion. I checked the history, and the article on Jim Naugle asserted notability from its very first version: he was mayor of a large American city six times in a row. DS 00:14, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Fingall. About the Global Forum on Agricultural Research, thank you for removing the tag. I read the guidelines on conflict of interest and maybe in part I have to be more careful. Actually, I am not an employee of GFAR, but I work for some agricultural information systems one of which is GFAR. It seems there is very little information on these networks on Wikipedia. I know only a couple well, but I was thinking of starting some articles and then let more informed people continue. Unfortunately, the most informed people on these networks are people who have been / are invoved with them.
I will try to use a very neutral tone and only factual information.

Response to Tips
[edit]I'm not convinced you've done enough to establish that she's notable enough to merit an article in an encyclopedia.
I get what you're saying here...maybe I mis-understood about this website. I was under the impression that this website was here to provide the most up-to-date information on whatever topic that is real and useful.
- Lose the interviews. They don't add much to the article, and they don't really belong in an encyclopedia.
Since the information on her is limited, I figured having the interviews would help people take what they wanted from the articles. I'll probably just end up having a list of links for the interviews, rather than cluttering up the article, sound good?
- "Seeing as she is a fairly new model there isn't a lot of information available about her." Big strike against her, since all information in an encyclopedia should be verifiable from reliable sources. Interviews with her don't carry as much weight as articles written about her.
I planned to update this information with more credible sources as time went on. The reason I started the article now is because she is fairly popular and has appeared in popular magazines like Maxim, I explain this more in the next section, below.
- "[S]he is a new model and her career hasn't exploded yet", "working on her growing career as a model while being a barmaid in California": If you start patrolling the list of new pages for any length of time, you will undoubtedly run into many self-promotional articles by bands who proclaim themselves to be "up and coming". "Up and coming" equals "not notable yet", which in turn equals "not notable". Believe me, sometimes I feel like I've speedy-tagged articles about damn near every crappy band on six continents (and I almost made it seven, but this band appears to have done enough interesting things to make the cut), and phrases like "up and coming" will usually prompt a sigh and an eye-roll from anyone experienced in this sort of thing. The phrases I've cited here basically say she's "up and coming". Not good.
Again, understandable. I was planning on updating this page as more info comes out on her, but I did include a publicity section to note that she is popular (she's been in Maxim, on the cover of several magazines, and is the face of a clothing line), but she hasn't become a main stream icon as a model.
- "Supermodel": Okay, she's hot, but "supermodel" implies that she's achieved a high enough status in the modeling world that she'll never need to work as a barmaid again.
Yeah, I had a debate in my head about this. I was just going to put "model" but when I tagged it as a wikireference it only sent me to a sculpture type of model...and supermodel seemed to get more of the definition I was going for. If you have any ideas that would better fit, let me know.
- Pictures: You don't need this many. Also, we're justifiably twitchy about copyrights around here, and pix that are simply pulled off a web site and used without permission or at least a decent fair-use rationale are subject to deletion. See Wikipedia's guidelines on non-free content.
Yeah I read the policies and though I might be in volation of some photos like the DragSport photo, I felt that most of the pictures of her would only help her reputation and the reputation of the companies that she's worked for. Babeblvd would get attention from hosting photos of her, so I felt that they wouldn't mind so much since it would help their business. In the captions, I also noted where they came from, so they still get credit for hosting the photos. I hope to contact them and get dirrect permission ASAP.

[edit]When was the request for an immediate deletion of my Mk 14 article received? In response to claims that what I had posted was unsupported by documentation, and despite I had given my sources in the Edit summary, I had just posted my sources.
If the request had occurred in the hour or two before you notified me of the request, then I would suspect that the fact that I had posted sources on the article to be involved in the sudden request to delete it immediately.
I will continue to edit and post my sources, but I did not choose to follow a career in the back-biting world of academic history for the simple reason that I did not wish to bite backs. I could have pursued aeronautical engineering, though in the immediate post Vietnam, post Apollo period there was not much future there, I could have pursued history, but for the reason mentioned. My thesis was on the history of the Military Rigid Airship. I put both of my muses to work at the bleeding edge of computerized typesetting and later desktop publishing. I have retrained myself for four new 'jobs' in the last 30 years. I have been self-employed for all but a couple of years of that time. It was fun.
I guess what I, a novice in the world of Wikipedia, and a semi-retired IT guy, want to know is am I pissing into the wind with some guys who are going to nuke my work because I have spent far too much of my money and life on a rather substantial library?
I am enjoying editing articles and posting pages. See my articles about the Allison T40 and the Army Air Ship Service to see if I understand what it means to write history for this type of project. Please let me know if there are points I must address.
One thing I do not want to do is immerse myself in a bunch of back biting prima donnas.

Fair use rationale for Image:Liberia-doe.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Liberia-doe.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ElinorD (talk) 21:45, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

You may not believe this, but I actually removed' a speedy tag that you placed on Sunland Park Mall. - None of those begin to approach evidence of notability; one says the site is still in beta! --Orange Mike 20:05, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'd be a little more charitable than that, but the CNN site gives only a passing mention, the mashable cite says the site's only in beta, and the digitalmediathoughts cite is pretty brief as well. There's enough there to indicate that you've got a helluva lot more potential to become notable than most sites, but I'm not persuaded that you're there right at the moment.
- Still, it's not usually a good idea to be writing about your own site. If you've truly arrived, then a happy customer or two will write the article for you without prompting. Thanks again, and feel free to come to me and Orangemike with further questions. --Finngall talk 20:33, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
I am not sure if I am entering this in the correct place- however I am inquiring into the speedy deletion marked for FTP movement site that I was creating. I have included on my talk page- over 15 websites that make mention of FTP movement including several sites from Former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney's site, as well as public enemy site and a few other notable hip hop and grass roots organizational sites nation wide, as well as a link to a published interview done in italian which shows it's global reaches on FTP movement as well as an interview done with Martina Correira, Troy Davis' sister(he is the man that was falsely accused of killing a police officer in Savannah, GA he was scheduled for execution on July 17th, due to the combined efforts of several organizations including Amnesty International, the ACLU and FTP he was granted a 90 day stay of execution) . Please help me, if this is not the correct way or process please let me know so that I may follow the appropriate guidelines to gain notability. Also, let me know if I need to post the info from my talk site here as well for you!
Actually I see that the person above me included the sites here as well so I will copy and paste my links here as well, it's rather long so I hope u don't get upset at it.
The FTP movement is monumental in the continuation of the historical civil rights movement. This organization also sheds light on positive work being performed by the youth of today.
Based on the following general guidelines for notability that you have given on your website-
• Reliability based on your definition includes “ sources(which) may encompass published works in all forms and media…” Below you will find a listing of several sites that have made mention to FTP Movement and what they have done in the community as well an individual search will also show more sites that are of a defaming nature, which are also used as negative propaganda in regards to this organization. I believe that this propaganda is being used to try and negatively harm the efforts of this grass roots organization which has played a part in both the Kathyrn Johnston as well as the Troy Davis cases which have occurred here in Georgia. For this reason I would like to create an accurate page on your site that does not delve into propaganda but however states the facts of this organization pure and simple. There are also several flyers that I can produce if need be which show that FTP works with other organization such as Amnesty International as well as the ACLU to help bring about equality in justice for underrepresented people everywhere.

Along with these sites there are several interviews and newspapers that have printed article which I am no longer able to access on line in regards to this movement. However I am sure that you will be able to contact an editor to get information from them in regards to this information. I can also provide you with scans from my archives of these articles.
Some of those sites include:
The San Francisco Bay view- www.sfbayview.com
Departure Magazine – www.departuremagazine.com
The Source Magazine – www.thesource.com
Frontline Magazine
• The following sources are additional sites which include the work that they have done with other movements as well but these only include information on the various interviews that Kalonji Jama Changa has done with Martina Corriera, Troy Davis’s sister as well as an interview printed in Italian which also shows the global capacity of this organization. Other interviews can be found on Kalonji’s site which can be provided if needed as well- o http://www.hiphopreader.it/newsletter/_2006_06.htm – Italian interview o www.myspace.com/freeallpoliticalprisoners – see Blood on the leaves for Troy Davis interview

Eurekahhhhhhhhh! Don't delete it!
[edit]The page is currently have material placed onto it; hence a deletion of the page is uncalled for. Edito*Magica 22:00, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
I think a little searching before the eager prod might have led to a warmer welcome for this editor, rather than an assumption that the page was inappropriate. Please at least check about the topic before telling a potential contributor that the subject is inappropriate. Thank you. KP Botany 19:02, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
Reply on db-repost
[edit]My apologies, I had tagged the previously deleted article at some point. I'm unclear on the use for the repost tag anyhow, as to if it should be used on recreated csd content or not. SpigotMap 09:11, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Careful!
[edit]Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. ;-) -- Iván Sánchez(talk) 16:56, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Frequent Deletion (MOC)
[edit]Hello, hopefully you'll be able to help. This is my first time trying to add or edit something to wikipedia. I keep trying to add Makeoutclub.com and keep getting deleted. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Exdeligate 00:10, 1 September 2007 (UTC)exdeligate
- Thanks for your advice and your comment about what looked the spammiest in this article, which I did remove and which I hope met the needs of the editor who tagged it with a spam speedy. User:Exdeligate seemed to be willing to work within Wikipedia's boundaries once he understood what they were, so I tried to help as much as I could. If you still have problems, though, I hope to hear about them so I can work with the user to improve the article. Accounting4Taste 04:16, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Re:AfD for Reenactor Entertainment
[edit]I apologize for being harsh, but when someone claims to "own" an "expansion pack" that is available for free (http://www.starcraft.org/customs/customsdb/totalconversions/309), it tends to set off the ol' bullshit detector. Especially when the company involved starts claiming that they made games that they clearly did not. Burzmali 17:32, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- You sure you didn't buy "Retribution: Starcraft Expansion", similiar title, much more legit. I find it hard to believe that none of the standard retail sites have ever heard of Starcraft: Renegade. Burzmali 23:10, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

I tried to speedy this, as I did Sheasgreen, with a db-nonsense tag, but the second admin did not agree with the first that it is nonsense. Can the second be speedied as a recreation of the first? Or something? If so, could you do the honors? Thanks! P.S. How were the middle ages? Katr67 22:50, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
- The prod ought to be sufficient--if it's contested, I'll send it to its doom via AfD. WP:CSD#G4 sometimes gets applied to previously-speedied articles, but it was intended more for articles previously deleted by more formal means like AfD.
- And the middle ages were fine--we just day-tripped it. --Finngall talk 22:56, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
- FYI, it has become a contested prod. Doomdoomdoom Katr67 07:00, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
- Gone now. --Finngall talk 03:09, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- Cool. I've tried speedying things as hoaxes before, but ended up having to take them to Afd because apparently "hoax" isn't speedable. Mysterious are the ways of the admins... Katr67 05:57, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
