Welcome!

Hello, Filmian, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! I noticed your edit to Carlo Gozzi. When you want to add a link to another Wikipedia article, you don't need to add the whole web address. Just enclose the article's title in square brackets (edit this page to see what that looks like). If you want to link to an article but to use a word or phrase different from its title, you can link to it like this (again, edit this page to see). This is called piping. Hope that helps. Happy editing.  • DP •  {huh?} 19:02, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when they said it. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 02:13, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your Wiki mail re: missing references

[edit]

Hi Thanks for your email. I will do my best to help on this if you send me the references. After I've received them I'll send you another message to confirm receipt and discuss best approach. Be aware that Wikipedia is very strict on a number of points:

  • Inline references for all statements that could be disputed – this means anything fact based or statements such as foremost, leading, and so on.
  • Neutral tone - so no self-promotion, advertising or 'peacock' terminology.
  • Nothing copied and pasted from other published sources that could breach copyright – you will need to ensure that all or parts of this article have not been directly copied from somewhere else. Rewording and listing source is fine, plagiarism isn't.

If you'd like to send me the references - either to my user page or to the email address you've just used to send me a message, I will see what I can do. Libby norman 14:04, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Email request

[edit]

Hi Filmian I'd rather not give out my email address. Nothing personal, but I like to keep Wikipedia activities on Wikipedia and I'm sure there must be another route. What format are the references in (eg, Word)? Thanks. Libby norman 19:04, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Have you seen the post by Technical 13 (talk · contribs)? I think your best bet is to email your document to him, so that he can look for a way to transfer the footnotes. -- John of Reading (talk) 21:16, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much! But I'm not sure which post you mean; I see dozens. (This whole system is very confusing.) If I can find his e-mail, address, I will e-mail the article to him. That's really what I need: to be able to send it to someone who knows how to post it with references intact. (I wish I knew why it's so complicated. :-( ) Thanks again.

Filmian (talk) 22:14, 30 March 2013 (UTC)Filmian[reply]

I see from Wikipedia:Help desk#Referencing help needed that you must have found the email address and that Technical 13 (talk · contribs) is working on it. It's complicated because the footnote system used by the MediaWiki software, used at Wikipedia, is different from those used by the main word-processing programs. Most Wikipedia articles are written by people who have already learned some of the MediaWiki syntax so there is no conversion step needed. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:02, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again, John! I'd really never considered writing for Wikipedia until this opportunity came along -- I was astonished that this man, who also happens to be a respected colleague, did not already have an entry -- and will probably never do another Wikipedia article. So I'm truly grateful to anyone who's willing to help me. I am SO happy that Technical 13 (talk · contribs), who I know is extraordinarily busy,Filmian (talk) 10:41, 31 March 2013 (UTC) not only has agreed to take it on, but has already begun. Again, many thanks! :-) Filmian (talk) 10:41, 31 March 2013 (UTC)Filmian[reply]

OK, we've made some progress. Technical 13 (talk · contribs) did manage to recover your footnotes, but has unfortunately been blocked from editing (long story) and is unable to assist any further. I have got hold of a copy of Technical 13's work and have resubmitted it on your behalf at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Richard France. Does that page have all your text and all your footnotes? It is now in the queue of articles waiting for review. If the draft is accepted, I will happily spend some time fixing up the formatting. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:17, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WONDERFUL! Thank you, John. Yes, all the references are intact. Thanks so much!Filmian (talk) 11:54, 4 April 2013 (UTC)Filmian[reply]
