Persian Wikipedia
[edit]Hi, You asked about the way the words appear with the "yeh" letter in them. I check but mine was correct. I use Mozilla Firefox as my browser and in the menu under View --> Character Encoding I selected Unicode (UTF-8). This works well for me. So that's all I can think might be the trouble. --(Aytakin) | Talk 21:15, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit]I've warned this user again, more clearly stating that those edits will be considered vandalism if he goes on like that. Policy requires four warnings unless it's clear, blatant, outrageous vandalism.
Pages should not be protected over minor incidents, really, and never to stop minor POV skirmishes. It's relatively easy to revert changes by a single user in a couple of pages from time to time, and I think I've got all the relevant pages in my watchlist, so I'll see them. Given the history of contributions of this user, I'll assume good faith for now. Thanks for keeping an eye on those pages. --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 14:07, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

Paco
[edit]Dear Rosadis: Hola! Thank you for your comment on Paco Jamandreu's article. I didn't know who he was until I saw the Spanish version of the film Evita. His human side made me interested in researching about him. He was a great one and a pride to all Latinos.
I love Argentina! I watch Chiquititas every day now that they are showing it on Telefe internacional. I also wrote about Juan Martin Coggi, Susana Gimenez, Aerolineas Argentinas and Telefe, among other Argentine topics. My first neighbors all the way until I was nine were from Buenos Aires and my mother always tells me if she wasnt born Puerto Rican she would have loved being Argentine. I agree. I need to see Buenos Aires. Besides, y de paso I run into Agustina Cherri there, she's 25 now and we couild fall in love! LOL!
I agree with you, and the redirect should then be done. By the way I want to invite you to join Wikipedia:WikiProject Puerto Rico so you can learn more about my country as well as respective wikiprojects for Mexico, Uruguay, Venezuela, Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Cuba. I always said, in learning more about our Latino culture as a whole, we gain more power worldwide!!
Muchas gracias y Dios le bendiga!
Sincerely yours, Antonio Por Telefe Siempre! Martin
- Dear Filius:
Hi! Thanks for your very kind words! People like you make being a member of wikipedia a worthy experience.
Y che, I see you enjoy boxing as much as I do! Sadly, like you said, boxing is going down around the world, although in my country, Miguel Cotto and Ivan Calderon still fill the arenas, they are the only two guys. I think a lot of people are afraid to admit they like boxing because they think others might think they are violent because they like boxing. I think that because everytime there's a fight on tv I catch them watching and then they don't talk about it..lol
Right now, Argentina has three people that are worth watching, two of them, Jorge La Hiena Barrios and Marcela Acuna are accomplished champions already, while the other, Carlos Baldomir, is just beginning but is already the world boxing council and Ring Magazine recognized world champion so he's interesting too.
I'm gonna mention the Coggi issue, but will try to be as npov about it as possible. Thanks for letting me know!! These facts escape one's mind sometimes. One of the reasons I wrote about Jorge Castro is that he too scored a "hand of God" but people forget. The other one of course, is I met him in person when he came to my city to fight Vassiliy Jirov and got his autograph!
I always watch Chiquititas on tv and Resumen Deportivo and I have never been to Buenos Aires but Im captivated. I would like to visit the 9 de mayo plaza, maybe join the mothers for a march. The Casa Azul, the Opera house, Luna Park, el estadio de River, and, I believe there is a panteon where all the stars of yesterday lay at. I can't remember the name of that place but Telefe shows it a lot. Those are places I must see in BA. Oh and let's not forget, being an aviation fan, Ezeiza wouldn't just be the airport where I arrive to me, it would be another touristic attraction and I would love to spend a day there taking photos of all Latin American and European airlines. And the rock clubs of course.
Coincidentally, I saw Madonna's version of Evita yesterday and noticed Paco Jamandreu was not mentioned in the entire movie as far as what I saw.
Well amigo me despido. Once more thanks for your kind words and God bless you!
Sincerely yours, Antonio El Mago Martin

Basiji use of roman salute
[edit]Hi, you confirmed information on this photo showing Basijis giving the roman salute. However, some editors go on disputing its authenticity. Do you have info on the subject? Could you transcribe the lettering on their headbands or corroborate on the photo's source? I'll monitor your talk page. --tickle me 19:03, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
- I left an answer in your user page. --Filius Rosadis 20:50, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
- I have of course no way of proving anything. But I would lean toward Iran. I do recall seeing this photo in the news a few years ago. The Baseejis were saluting Khamenei, as seen in the picture. It made a lot of noise in the Iranian chat rooms because of the Nazi style salute. (but it had nothing to do with any Nazi ideology. Iranians heavily use body language in their daily lives to expres themselves.)
- There is a website which is still carrying the photo: http://www.iranmania.com/News/ArticleView/?NewsCode=13167&NewsKind=CurrentAffairs
- Other than that, I dont think we have no other way of knowing.--Zereshk 20:01, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
- The photo quality is not very good, and there is curvature on the headbands, so half of the word is not visible at all. I cant really tell what it says.--Zereshk 20:16, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
Zhandov
[edit]Hello Filius. I have waited for over ten days for a response from you regarding your action. You removed my text in haste and as I pointed out, misinterpreted the message entirely. I would simply ask that you read what I have read and at least be so kind as to kindly provide a comment so as we can dialog on the matter. I added bonafide insight and you removed it -- I believe it was done by mistake on your part, an innocent mistake to be sure... but let us strive for consensus, and not stand on confusion. Please do not ask follow on questions about a url for a statue in a relatively small town in eastern Europe, as there is none. As for the street, statues are not located on streets; they are located in parks or similar settings. The Zhandov statue is located in City Square. Questions such as that only frustrate the matter. I await your response. Kind regards, Corey Jahns --Coreyjahns 15 March 2006 (UTC)
- Just get some convincing reference and I'll believe you. --Filius Rosadis 22:42, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
- Filius, I thank you for finally responding, but I do not think it is friendly of you to call my word into question. I have been there and seen the item in question more than once, and have spoken to local residents about it. I was only trying to relate that information. Do not question my word; it is very rude of you. I see now there is no satisfying you so we will end this conversation, but I will point out that the wikipedia is about information, and where no other reference exists, this might have been the genesis of new information. But, you are making that impossible. Perhaps the wikipedia has granted you, however temporarily, too much authority. Kind regards, corey 23:08, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
Edward Said
[edit]I think Weiner's allegations are malicious and of marginal interest, so I agree that this section should be cut down. This is one of the problems with criticising Said: he had so many unsavoury political enemies that his academic critics (many of whom, such as Irwin, are sympathetic to the Palestinian cause) always risked being lumped together with them, and branded by Said himself as 'Zionists' or worse. This normally wasn't very fair (not even in Lewis's case, in my view, although he has been guilty in recent works of creating negative stereotypes of Islam) - and I'm afraid that Said liked to play up this image of himself as an embattled outsider in order to deflect legitimate criticism of his work which he should have met head-on. I regret that the description of the hostile reaction to Orientalism is likely to provide ammunition for politically-motivated Said-bashers, but keeping his politics separate from his academic record (as I have tried to do) is very difficult, because Said himself kept blurring the boundaries. Al-Kindi ancestry
[edit]Hello. I noticed your comment on Al-Kindi talk page: "Very accurate name and ancestry information (34 generations) is in the following Arabic page: http://www.muslimphilosophy.com/kindi/kindi-bio-ayun.htm"
I maintain a genealogy site (http://fabpedigree.com) and might be interested in including Al-Kindi. But I can't read Arabic. Jamesdowallen (talk) 23:25, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, but ...
[edit][1] Not sure if I understand why, but the pic seems to be objectionable for some copyright stuff and was marked for removal or something, so I deleted it from the article. Thanks again!. --Nuares (talk) 17:29, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Filius, I made a proposal on the talk page. Please have a look, and please have a look also at the latest version of User:Drmies/caner. Thanks for the links and the pointers. Drmies (talk) 19:09, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Wikimedia Stories Project
[edit]Aloha!
My name is Victor and I work with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. We're chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade new people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who use Wikipedia have so much to share.
I find stories that drive our annual fundraising efforts. It's important to convey the incredible diversity of people who've come to rely upon Wikipedia every day.
I'd really like the opportunity to interview you to tell your story, with the possibility of using it in our materials, on our community websites, or as part of this year’s fundraiser to encourage others to support Wikipedia.
I will be in Buenos Aires from the 10th - 11th of March 2012.
I'm hoping you will elaborate on your story with me. Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project!
Thank you,
Victor Grigas
