P.S.: Thank you so much for coming along, and I hope I can occasionally ask for assistance with the historical content of some clinical articles. JFW | T@lk 12:19, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be happy to help in any way possible and so far as I am able. Freekra (talk) 12:40, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I noticed that you blanked your new article History of Psychiatric Hospitals. Can I help? -- The Anome (talk) 15:09, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Ah. I see you've turned it into a redirect to the main Psychiatric hospital article. Again, if you want any help, please let me know. -- The Anome (talk) 15:12, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My mistake. I wanted to create a holding stub so that I could perhaps move all the historical content from Psychiatric hospital to History of Psychiatric Hospitals which I did. Then I noticed that I didn't follow wiki naming conventions regarding lowercase so I blanked and tried to delete. Then it was marked for speedy deletion - which I've just noticed now - and a rediret slapped on it. Then I reverted it I think. Then it was blanked again and then it was redirected again back to Psychiatric hospital. Anyhow, I think we will eventually move the historical content out of the Psychiatric hospital, because that article is a bit of a mess, but I might wait a bit for a consensus to emerge on that topic and not try to plan ahead by creating a new article before everyone is ready. Bah humbug :( Freekra (talk) 15:26, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Refactoring large sections out of articles should not be a problem. I'll do the partitioning now, then you can go on and make the changes to the new article. -- The Anome (talk) 15:41, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Great. :)Freekra (talk) 15:44, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. The history of psychiatric hospitals article can now be expanded further and made more detailed, and, now that it's not needed as a home for fine detail, the section in the psychiatric hospital article should, as a counterbalance to this, be reduced further and simplified to an overview/precis with less detail but more coherence. -- The Anome (talk) 15:53, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again,
As its a new article and this isn’t (to my mind) a contentious fork to the article on psych. hospitals, I think it is fine to start History of psychiatric institutions as a ‘stub’ right away. However, looking at your user/talk pages, I am wondering if your best next move would be for you to start a sub-page to you user page. You then will have the space to use as a sandbox to do rough drafts.
If you your not sure what I am talking about, you simple create a new page entitled (say) User:Freekra/Sandbox or User:Freekra/Draft or something. You can then scribble away there to you hearts content and not get worried by other editors -Ah Bliss!!! It also leaves your User page free of clutter, to be used for what it is really intended for. Does this help?--Aspro (talk) 15:59, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Freekra (talk) 16:25, 29 November 2009 (UTC) Thanks to both of you for your help. Freekra (talk) 16:25, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've changed the headings to be time-based rather than geography-based, and moved in some 20th-century material from the main article. More refactoring is needed, but it should at least be a start. I'm logging off for now... over to you! -- The Anome (talk) 16:31, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Anome. Your refactoring is logical. I like it.Freekra (talk) 16:33, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed the timeline from the article: there's already a Timeline of psychiatry article, and the entries should be merged into that. -- The Anome (talk) 20:15, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK. But remember that the primary focus here is psychiatric institutions rather than psychiatry itself. Therefore quite a bit of what will be covered will not be simply about breakthroughs in the discipline. Social & cultural history will figure quite prominently. Even in terms of covering psychiatric professionalisation as part of the history of the asylum the emphasis will be quite different from the kind of history given in the psychiatry article. Mind you, that's all conjectural. We have to write the bloody thing first. Freekra (talk) 20:42, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I happened to be passing by, and I couldn't help but notice that no one's given you the standard welcome spiel, yet. So...
