Meisa Kuroki prod

Just as a note, the prod template doesn't allow for reasons to be given. MSJapan 17:54, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Actually, it has a "concern=" part. Take a look at other nomination proposals and you'll see some examples. Fg2 20:56, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Hm. I wish the template told me that. In any case, I expanded the article with some of the material from the Japanese WP entry, but I need someone who has seen her stuff to doublecheck the names. The ones I have aren't "wrong" per se, but they may not be what's actually used for the character in question. MSJapan 05:39, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
I can't be sure, but they look right to me. IMDB confirmed "Taitei no Ken." Although, Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles)#Body text #3 specifies "は, ヘ and を as particles are written wa, e, and o respectively." (Rather than "wo.")By the way, I think you've made a nice stub out of the article -- thanks! Fg2 06:14, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

I screwed up

The page was unfortunately on the articles page for the Shinto project. It has since been removed. Sorry for the screw-up. Badbilltucker 21:03, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Daishin-ji

Thanks! I cleaned out most of the kanji before, but, the article's creator added it back in last night. I see you decided to leave that last sentence alone, too. I think I'm about ready to have another shot at it.  :-) Neier 02:06, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Nope :) I am planning to drive Portal:Japan to featured status.. Hope you guys can help! AQu01rius (User • Talk) 03:43, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Help

Hello. My favourite NHK tv series about Japanese rivers is back, so I will expand somewhat some Japanese river every week. This week it was Chikugo River. There is a nice GFDL photo on JA Wiki [1]. I would like to upload it here. Can you please translate the photo description? Thank you. :) - Darwinek 12:24, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi Darwinek, and thanks for your work on rivers!

The caption of the photo says something like this:

"Taken from the window of a train on the Kyūdai Main Line facing downstream (Chikugo Ōishi Station -- Yoake Station)

Ukiha, Fukuoka straddles the river on the left and in the background on the right; on the right foreground is Hita, Ōita

Taken in March 2006 by Bakkai"

Kuma River

Hello again! Next and as I suppose (sadly) the last part of NHK river series was aired today. This time it was Kuma River. Can you please translate description of this [2] GFDL photo? Thank you very much. - Darwinek 20:30, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi Darwinek,

Thanks again for working on rivers. I hope NHK will broadcast some more shows for you! It sounds like an interesting series.

The caption of the photo says something like this:

Faculty

University faculties (Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka, Faculty of Biological Science, University of Dhaka) cannot be notable as like as the university. Same thing happened with Dept. of Pharmacy, Jahangirnagar University. Why did you remove the tag? Tahnk you NAHID 09:14, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

As I wrote in the edit summary, there is a better solution. Instead of deleting, merge to form an article on academics. By the way, why do you say that faculties cannot be notable? Fg2 10:00, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
I read the edit summary. Then do you think should it be merged Dept. of Pharmacy, Jahangirnagar University or deleted....... NAHID 10:36, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
The information seems valuable. I don't see any harm in keeping separate articles, but merging them is fine too. Just for reference, take a look at University of Edinburgh#Colleges and Schools. Nine of their colleges and schools have individual articles. I believe Dhaka deserves coverage too, and either individual articles or a combined article seems fine. The article on Jahangirnagar Pharmacy is briefer and might best be merged until more comprehensive information is available. It can be separated at a later time if the article on the university becomes too long.
These are just my opinions. Please feel free to consult other people too in addition to your opinions.
Best regards, Fg2 11:17, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Ulcinj Airport

Concerning Ulcinj Airport. I understand that minor does not equal none, my mistake, that however does not give a reason to remove the tag. Since my improper description seems to be the only reason, i reinstated the tag. If you wish for the article to be AFD'd, feel free to remove it again. - - 'twsx'talk'cont' 14:20, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

No reason is required and once a prod is removed it may not be restored. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 14:35, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

transmitters

I think merging the pages for them into collective articles as you suggested would be a very good idea. DGG 01:58, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. Lots of items are too minor for an individual article, although collections of them are. (And a nice thing about merging is that it can be done without a vote for deletion!). Fg2 03:47, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi, and thank you

Thank you for your message on my talk page. I agree that that entry is unlikely to be deleted from Wikipedia. Thank you for removing the duplicate tag; the bot has been corrected to prevent that type of duplication.

Vincenzo Bianchini

Hi, I'd like to discuss further your removal of the Proposed deletion template on Vincenzo Bianchini. The reason you gave was "Google search for "Vincenzo Bianchini" -wiki (including the quotation marks) provides a few hundred matches, many relevant."

I'm confused how that, in and of itself, is any sort of demonstration of notability. You can do a search for my name and find more than 20,000 matches, just about all of them related to me and my professional work. That doesn't make me notable or worthy of an encyclopedia entry. See WP:NOTE. My suspicion, based on the username of the article's author, is that it was written by a relative of the person, perhaps in tribute.

But the issue, as I laid out in the deletion proposal, is not just about the worthiness of the subject for inclusion; it's about the gibberish that constitutes the content of the article. It's a machine translation of the Italian Wikipedia entry and makes no sense whatsoever.

If I could fix it, I might, but a) it's nonsense and b) I'm still not convinced of the notability of the subject. If anything, I'd say that the dearth of hits on a Google search is a mark against notability. Also, identifying that the person is possibly notable is not the same as saying that the article asserts that notability (which is required to avoid speedy deletion - see WP:CSD#A7).

I still believe that the article, as is, can't be saved. It would need to be written from scratch and I don't see that happening. Since the deletion is contested, I'll open up a full AfD and invite your comment there. Cheers. Planetneutral 01:33, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Please weigh in on the AfD debate. Thanks. Planetneutral 01:51, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
The points are worth looking into, and I had noticed the username of the article's author on the Italian Wikipedia. But that doesn't make the content automatically wrong or biased (although we might eventually conclude that it is), and if it's a machine translation it needs cleanup, not deletion. Calling it to the attention of a project concerned with Italy or fine arts might motivate someone to clean up the translation or verify that he merits an article. For comparison, take a look at another article before and after this edit. One editor described it as a "bunch of garble jarble nonsense" and another as a "botched translation" prior to my edit. After my edit, it looks like a Wikipedia article and has an English-language external link to support some of the information in it. I was able to do this without any knowledge of the Korean language. Someone with language skills and familiarity with the subject can surely do better. And it helps to have an article to start with. Also, I did not vote against deletion, even after cleaning up the article.
I looked at three or four of the articles Google found, and judged that the deletion of this article is controversial. Going through Articles for Deletion will get more people involved in the decision. Depending on the outcome of further investigation, I might vote either for or against deletion. Proposed Deletion is for articles that are not controversial. This article deserves broader scrutiny. Best regards, Fg2 02:02, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your reasoned response. I see now that AfD was the way to go in the first place. I think my perspective was that the translation was so bad, that it was irreparable and therefore uncontroversial to delete. At some level, I still think that, but I'm interested in the translation cleanup template that you added and whether it will result in the clear assertion of notability that I'm seeking. I took the additional step of adding the page to Pages Needing Translation cleanup section, in the hopes of drawing the necessary attention. Planetneutral 04:10, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks to you for starting the whole thing off, and following it up. We both want the same thing: a better Wikipedia. Fg2 05:53, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Moving Pages

Hey, thanks for the message about moving pages. Thing is, I do not have this ability. I'm logged in, but there's simply no move button. I noticed at Help:Move it says that one's account might be too new. Perhaps this is the case, but when might that become available to me? Wikipedia is so decentralized, there's no one for me to ask this question to.BilabialBoxing 01:23, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

You're probably right about being too new. A quick peek at WP:MOVE didn't turn up anything, though, but I didn't look in detail. If you want to rename an article, I'll be glad to help, and for moves that require an administrator, you can find some at WikiProject:Japan (I'm not an administrator). Thanks again! Fg2 01:30, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for helping with the Toshikazu Kase page which I started yesterday. I apologise for my ignorance, but I'm not quite sure how to give the name in kanji. Should it be '加瀬俊一' or '加瀬俊一 (1925年入省)'? In spite of my best efforts I can't figure out the significance of the inclusion of '1925', other than to guess that post that date the alternate script (?) was used. I'd be most grateful for your advice. Also, do you think that there is any material from the Japanese article that might enrich the English page? I'd like to see the photo included but don't know the protocol involved. I hope I'm not asking too much here! Again, many thanks. Armeria 12:51, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

I've looked again at your edit and plumped for '加瀬俊一 (1925年入省)', in an attempt to be bold! I'd still be happy to hear your views. Thanks, Armeria (talk)13:02, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Armeria, thanks again for writing that article! You picked a difficult example, as there were two people who wrote their names using exactly the same kanji and worked for the same department of the Japanese government. The Japanese Wikipedia article titles begin with the name, and distinguish the people by adding the year they entered government service. So 加瀬俊一 is the person's name and the part in parentheses is the additional information that the Japanese Wikipedia needs because it has articles on both people. Interestingly, although they used the same kanji, they pronounced their names differently, the other person being Kase Shun'ichi (or often Kase Shunichi). So the English Wikipedia will never have to add the information about the year they entered government service to distinguish them.
Now, to answer your question. The kanji for his name are 加瀬俊一. If you wish to indicate the kana, which the Japanese use to show pronunciation, it's かせ としかず. We usually don't put both kanji and kana in an article, but especially in a case like this there's no harm in it.
Thanks for asking! And if you have more questions, I'll be glad to help. Also feel free to ask at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Japan.
Best regards, Fg2 22:44, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank you so much for the feedback, plus great explanation & advice. Could you please have a look at how I've rendered your suggestions - and edit as you see fit? I don't want to trespass on your goodwill, but I would really like help with both: i) the translation of any relevant material from the Japanese article, and ii) advice concerning the uploading of the photograph that appears there. As far as the translated material goes, it would be fine by me if a rough draft version were to be posted on say my talk page; I could then work on its presentation / wikification as a secondary task. If you think that I should make recourse to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Japan, then I shall do that. All best wishes, Armeria (talk) 00:54, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
I've started a very rough draft and hope to have more in a few days. Best Fg2 11:10, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Japanese eye charts

Oh! Thank you for telling me. :) I had a feeling they might use the C charts... a chart like that with kanji on it would be awfully hard to read when you're short-sighted! ^^; --Candy-Panda 01:28, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Forcible relocation during Hideyoshi's Invasions of Korea

Thanks for providing a citation for that material, but since that article is in English, wouldn't it be better if the citation were given in romaji, not Japanese script? Also, as best as I can tell, the citation is only legible if you use the Edit this page link. Shouldn't it be legible from the article itself? Spventi 04:25, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Spventi, Please accept my apologies. Apparently I don't know how to use the references (I thought it was correct). If you know how to fix it, please do. The editor's name is Takeuchi Rizō. The title is Nihonshi Shōjiten. The publisher is Kadokawa Shoten (Tokyo). I hope this helps. Fg2 04:38, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

No apologies necessary. I'm happy to have a reference for this, especially from a Japanese source, because it can be a contentious issue. Let me see if I can get the text to show up at the bottom of the page. Spventi 06:11, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello! I think your decision to move the Schola Gregoriana article to this page is a sensible one, however I am still unsure that the notability of the subject merits being merged into the Queen's University of Belfast article, as this is simply one small set of people within another student group (the Catholic Chaplaincy), with no apparent claim to notability other than the fact that they sing every Sunday (something which many, many choirs do). If there was an article on the Catholic Chaplaincy itself (although I'm not sure whether that would be considered notable), I would happily merge this content there, but as there is not, I am unsure whether there is anywhere for it to go, so I'm considering taking it to afd. Robotforaday 10:10, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Robotforaday,

Of course you can ask for community consensus on deletion, and as you know many such articles are deleted. My preference would be to rename the article something like "Extracurricular activities at Queen's University of Belfast" or "Clubs and societies at ..." and make this the first entry in the hope that others would add information about theatre groups, orchestras, mountaineering activities, and other things that students do when they're not studying. I agree that there's nothing that makes this group stand out in particular, and I expect that many other groups would likewise be similar to their counterparts elsewhere (theatre groups perform; orchestras play; mountaineers climb) but I hope that collectively they're worth an article, as some other universities have. So this would be the seed of an article rather than an article on its own. Many Wikipedia articles begin small and change focus and direction as people add to them. It's easier to add to an existing article than to create a new one, and an existing article can inspire an editor to add more, whether to flesh out an idea that's already there or in indignation about a glaring omission. So my instincts say give it some time and room. In any case, if it does go to AfD, and the community votes to delete it, I can hardly object. Many thanks for explaining your reasoning. Fg2 10:35, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

List of historical Camden County, New Jersey municipalities has been tagged for cleanup for over a year. It's just a list and some dates. I have no idea what the dates or indenting are supposed to indicate. Also, it has no references so we don't know where the data came from.

You declined to remove the cleanup tag and I can't figure out how to clean it up so I nominated it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of historical Camden County, New Jersey municipalities.
(I figured I should let you know because you opposed the prod. The prod was my taking the easy way out when I couldn't figure out how to clean it up. Unfortunatley, since I spend most of my time in the Category:Cleanup by month most of what I see are the poorer articles. I should get out and enjoy the good articles more often, but there are so MANY that need cleanup. And I get a feeling of accomplishemnt when I clean something up enough to remove a cleanup tag from months ago. Anyways, since you opposed prod I figured I'd let you know so you can make a comment at AFD.) RJFJR 16:27, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know. I'm not emotionally tied to the article, but might chime in later. Meanwhile, we'll see what the community has to say. If they say delete, then let it go. Fg2 01:55, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Hiroshima Sister Cities

Hey, you replied that you removed Harrisburg from Hiroshima's list of sister cities. I was wondering exactly what list you removed it from? I noticed it wasn't on Hiroshima's page which is why I questioned it on other pages. I was just curious were you removed it from because its still on the list of sister cities for the US, and also on Harrisburg's page, so I am going to remove it from those two places, and state Hiroshima's talk page for the edit so no one disputes them being removed from the list. It must be listed in a few places.--Azslande 01:27, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Azslande, I removed it from the list in Hiroshima#Sister cities. You can also cite Hiroshima's own web page to avoid disputes. I just located a list in English at Hiroshima's English web site. Hope that helps! Fg2 01:51, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

I can understand how a well-intentioned Wikipedian would want to remove said article, but I think this is a bit rash. Do you understand where I'm coming from? Please see the Daffodil Daniel talk page. Thank you. GroverTheGnome 08:04, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi GroverTheGnome, Here's a suggestion that can help you. Why not write your articles temporarily on your user page (or subpages). They don't have to meet Wikipedia's notability requirements. And when the subject becomes notable you'll be able to rename ("move") them to the titles you want. It's an easy way to get around the requirement for notability. So don't worry, you can still write the article on this subject and have it on Wikipedia, just in a different place. I hope that suggestion helps. Best regards Fg2 12:04, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

I thought it should have been promoted! But I'm so tired after running around for all those bloody citations!!! John Smith's 11:51, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Umm... Huh? Vandalistic blanking of a page counts as protest of the PROD notice? That's a pretty broad interpretation of the rules. And not an interpretation I've seen before. And not really an interpretation I would make. If you want to be considered as protesting the above PROD yourself, fine, but IMHO page blanking is vandalism, not PROD protesting. - TexasAndroid 14:36, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi TexasAndroid. I agree with you about blanking an article not being the same as contesting a deletion proposal (and it's in the policy too). But there's more to this one. There had been an earlier deletion proposal by User:JuJube. I removed the first deletion proposal on March 3. The blanking removed the second proposal. Your deletion proposal was the third, and I removed it on the basis of the first one having been removed (by me), not on the basis of the blanking of the article. Which is to say that on March 3 I protested the deletion proposal, so if there's to be a next step, it would be Articles for Deletion. Hope that clarifies matters. Fg2 21:03, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

(Continued) Misspelling vs. Alternative spelling

Hello. Last October we had a short discussion (now archived) regarding templates to be used on redirect pages. A few months ago I found the {{R from title without diacritics}}. I have been using it for a while and for the most part it seems ideal for many of the redirects that I deal with. It also allows us to sidestep the issue of misspelling vs. alternative spelling as well. Unfortunately, though, it does not provide a solution to dealing with redirects such as Honshû where the macrons are there, but they are not the preferred ones. Still, it works well for maybe 90%+ of the redirects. FYI. Bendono 03:02, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

...should likely be merged, but it seems to me that The Henry Road was developed in such a manner that it does not really warrant a DB, but possibly an AfD, based on notability. The article is a stub yet, but is referenced. I tend to lean away from blanket deleting, particularly article that seem to be made in good faith and with citations. What are your thoughts? --Kukini hablame aqui 16:02, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Actually, maybe I'll just leave it alone. The group does not seem to merit an article, but then again the matter can probably be decided without me. I don't have much of an emotional stake in this, one way or another. Fg2 02:48, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Nikkō Tōshō-gū

I'm newbie in here, so I'm sorry if I miss the rule. But would you mind removing the picture of "Nikkō Tōshō-gū"? I've never heard that visitors rub "Gyaku-bashira" for their luck, and if it was so, It's not proper to touch to important cultural properties. I'm afraid losing important cultural properties cause many people touched it.

If you feel it's necessary to remove it, please do so. Personally, I think it's a useful illustration. Also, it was not posed; I snapped the photo as I saw a Japanese person, whom I do not know, rub the pillar. So some people do rub the pillar. It appears to have some coats of paint on it, and can withstand many people touching it. Fg2 02:44, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your permission. Just to make sure I asked to the administration of toushouguu. They said of course they don't want "Sakasa-bashira"(I missed pronounce, ashamed!) touched by tourist, but they worry about many caution signboard or surplus security would break atmosphere. and since they use "youmeimon" as the gate when the festival, they can't make fence. so they leave it to tourist's conscience to decide. But Toushouguu has become world-wide, it may be need to prohibit more clearly, I thought. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 122.16.178.153 (talk) 03:18, 22 April 2007 (UTC).

Do you really think there's much hope for that article? It's a POV, OR essay on an obscure subject. So what do we do now, stick a cleanup tag on it and hope for the best? I'm openly quite deletionist, but I really do not think much can be done with that particular piece. —Vanderdeckenξφ 12:21, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Sounds good to me. Wikipedia has a lot of people with interests in obscure subjects. Maybe we'll get lucky and someone will clean it up. Fg2 20:40, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Re Ronin

So what is the real spelling? Also note the Ronin (disambiguation). You might want to move that back again if you're going to stick with Ronin instead of Rōnin. Berserkerz Crit 11:59, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

The real spelling is different from language to language. The spelling of the English word is "ronin" with no macron. The Japanese word is not normally written in the Latin alphabet; it's written using kanji as 浪人. Wikipedia's Hepburn romanization of the Japanese word is rōnin. So when you're writing the English word you omit the the macron; when you're writing the Japanese word in the Wikipedia Hepburn system you include the macron. I agree with Patrick Schwemmer's comment that the vowel length is important in the Japanese word; I renamed (back to what it had been) the article simply to use the English word in the title. Fg2 21:42, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
The real spelling (in Latin script) is "rōnin". People like to drop diacritics when writing English. That is the only issue here. Is the word "English"? That depends on the criteria. Although it is not listed in most English dictionaries, you may find "ronin" in Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary. There was a Hollywood movie a few years back with the title "Ronin". As I recall, they needed to define the term in the movie because the English word "ronin" was not English enough to be understood. I seriously doubt the average (or even above average) English speaker would understand the word, even though it can be found in at least one English dictionary. I would be happier if it was titled Rōnin, but I will not push it too much. On the other hand, though, the related article Ronin (student) probably should be Rōnin (student). That meaning and usage of "rōnin" is not found in English dictionaries. Bendono 00:02, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
Moved Ronin (student) to Rōnin (student) as you suggested. Fg2 00:45, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Personally, I think the whole lot should be rolled back because the summary provided in the PROD makes it sound like a WP:POINT edit. Especially, if you read the comment left on the talk page. But, I suppose that a mass de-PROD is also WP:POINT... Neier 10:46, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Unusual names - Romaji

Heya. Thanks again for your extensive work on this list - I do think it'll come in quite useful in future. I am curious, however, about the romaji readings given for each placename. For many of these, I understand where the "standard" reading comes from, and thus why it would be unusual or unexpected for the actual reading to be the one used. Two examples of these many are Chitose, Hokkaido, which is written as 幌美内 (Poropinai) and Ishinomaki, Miyagi (合戦谷, Kasegai).

However, there are a number (I'm looking primarily at the Okinawan ones, now, only because those are the ones which happened to catch my eye) for which the romaji name given is just as... unexpected or unusual as the actual placename. Tomigusuku (保栄茂), which is given as "Bin" in the romaji column, is one such glaring example - no matter how you parse that, no matter which on/kun readings you use, there's no way that three kanji can together be read "bin", right?

I'm not trying to criticize or attack you, nor do I wish to suggest that you/we should look over every single one on this entire list to make sure they all make sense. I'm just curious if these romaji readings are all taken directly from the Japanese page you translated, or where they come from. Just wanted to point out the inconsistency - could be something as minor as an oversight or typo. Thanks. LordAmeth 22:09, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Bin is correct. http://www.yu-bin.net/pc/post.cgi/47/0/9010214/index.html and, that site can probably be used to verify any other questions that arise. - Neier 22:39, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

You're probably looking for User talk:Nihonjoe, the creator of Wikipedia:WikiProject Japan/Place names with unusual readings. I only made two edits to the project page. I share your belief that it'll be quite useful. Fg2 07:35, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Wow, sorry about that. I don't know why I got the two of you confused. Gomen. LordAmeth 08:28, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Template:Black American ethnicity

Hi I saw that you removed the "Dated prod" template I had placed at Template:Black American ethnicity with an edit summary that "proposed deletion is not for templates."

Despite its name, the article in question is not a template. It was created by a new editor who was trying to make a point (she's making global replacements of "African American" with "Black American") and she cut a chunk of African American and pasted it into a new article she created called Template:Black American ethnicity.

If "Dated prod" isn't the appropriate way to have this article deleted, can you help me? What is? I think this should be a candidate for "speedy deletion" but I couldn't find a reason on that page that described this specific situation.

I'd appreciate your help. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz | Talk 14:22, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, that's odd. I'd say just list it on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. There are occasionally articles described as "POV fork" which are routinely deleted. How's that sound? Fg2 20:35, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll give it a try. — Malik Shabazz | Talk 21:27, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Hi. Thank you for the invitation. I'm a newbie, you know, and still confusing. But I'd like to help. I don't think that I will ever be able to write an article. Because my English writing is terrible. But I can be a facts getter and a facts confirmer.

About Japanese Prefectures: it is so strange to a Japanese that the article says there are 47 pref.. Last night I was watching a quiz show on TV and there was a question like this. What's the total number of 都道府県? 都道府県の数はぜんぶでいくつ? Of course the the answer is 47. If asked about the number of 県/pref., the answer should be 43. We never merge the 4 units into one as 県/pref. Is it しかたがない when you translate and explain in English about the topic?

I've got an article idea. It's Hollywood stars in Japanese TV commercials. What do you think? Is there anybody who could write it?

If there's something I could do for Wiki and Japan related contributers, please let me know. --Oda Mari 18:15, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

PS Saigo Teruhiko was married to a singer, Henmi Mari and have a daughter, Henmi Emiri who became a tarento but rarely seen on TV lately for bringing up her baby. Did you know that? When you reply to someone, which is preferable? Write the reply on your own talk page? Or leave message on the sender's talk page? --Oda Mari 18:31, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Oda Mari,

I really like the idea of Hollywood stars in Japanese TV commercials. I added some information to articles on Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr. They were a long time ago. There are also Charlie Sheen, Orson Welles, Arnold Schwarzenegger and many more. Another personality is Hulk Hogan. Maybe you know some younger stars (I'm getting old). Fg2 07:12, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Fg2,
Cameron Diaz, Olivia Hussey, Diane Lane, Tatum O'Neal, Brook Shields, Meg Ryan, Charles Bronson, Nicolas Cage, James Coburn, Timothy Dalton, Richard Gere, Tommy Lee Jones, Brad Pitt, Mickey Roake. There must be many more. And although they are not Hollywood stars, Alain Delon, Silvie Valtan, Twiggy, Jean Reno, Sophia Lauren. I'm getting old too. No one's getting young. --Oda Mari 15:18, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
Wow, you know so many celebrities! I think this could be a very interesting article. Fg2 22:25, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
But I don't know where and how to start an article and what and how to write it. I've just learned how to add an external link. You know, an old brain needs a lot of time to learn new tricks. --Oda Mari 17:37, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Wrong Name

I saw an orphaned Japan-related article and found the name wrong. Not Akechi Hidemitu. Akechi Mitsuhide is the right name. 明智光秀. He's a very popular figure in Sengoku era. I wanted to edit and categorize but didn't know what to do. Please take care of that article.--Oda Mari 19:23, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Oda Mari,
Apparently, there were two different men with similar names. The famous man was Akechi Mitsuhide. He was the general of the army that killed Oda Nobunaga. The other man was Akechi Hidemitsu. He was a member of Mitsuhide's family. The Japanese Wikipedia has articles about both men. When you read one of those articles, you will find a box on the left under the toolbox; it says "in other languages." You can click the 日本語 link in that box to read the article in the Japanese Wikipedia.
I hope this helps. If you have more concerns, please ask me or put a message at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Japan. Lots of helpful people read Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Japan.
Thank you very much for helping with these articles!

Michael Brown Okinawa assault incident Peer Review request

Hi Cla68,

I noticed you listed Michael Brown Okinawa assault incident at Wikipedia:WikiProject Japan#Peer review requests. I apologize if the instructions there were unclear. The purpose of that list is to inform editors who work on Japan-related articles of relevant peer-review requests that have already been submitted to Wikipedia:Peer review. Since this article has not been submitted there, I removed it from the list, but I encourage you to submit it to WP:PR according to the nomination procedure and list it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Japan#Peer review requests again. (If, like me, you find editing tables tedious, you probably already know it's easy to copy and paste from an old version.)

I've added to the instructions and hope they're more clear now. Since it's a wiki, you can of course edit them too.

The article looks interesting and I wish you success in getting a peer review.

Best regards,

Fg2 00:43, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Sorry for the trouble. I thought the Japan project had its own peer review forum similar to what the MilHist project has. I understand that it's like a month or more long wait to get an article peer reviewed on the general peer review forum. Cla68 03:18, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
Interesting. I wasn't aware of a wait. Maybe that's the time from submission to removal? I think comments come in at various times (or don't come in at all), depending on the interests of the people reading Peer Review, and the one-month figure may be the limit after which they figure there will be no more. Not sure. Why not submit it and see?
I once proposed a system for peer-reviewing by the Japan project, but didn't get any interest, alas.
Best regards,

revised lead for Tokyo

Hi - What do you think of the revised lead for Tokyo? We had a discussion about this quite a while ago on the talk page, but I don't think anyone actually edited the lead. I am very far from an expert in this area (I've never been to Japan, and don't read or speak Japanese other than one or two words I've picked up from editing here), but I think I understand the situation regarding Tokyo — mostly from comments of yours. If the revised lead doesn't sound right for any reason, please fix it. Arigato (or should that be Dōmo?) -- Rick Block (talk) 03:21, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Help

I've just proofread on the Japanese grammar page. Is it OK? I found a mistake on the page but don't know what to do. In the adverb section, there's ‘あまり' as an example of nominal adverbs. The meaning in English is not good enough. ‘あまり' is used as too much/many too. Like ‘あまりたくさんあっても……' or ‘あまり大勢、来られても……'. Thinking about the usage, it might be better to use other word as an example. Tell me your opinion. Sadly there are more small mistakes on the page. But I am really impressed at the article.--Oda Mari 14:44, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Mari, Since this is a Wiki, of course you may edit it. I don't give permission to edit, and I don't stop people from editing. We welcome your expertise! So please go ahead and edit that article (or any article) to improve it. Thank you! Fg2 22:23, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Hi Fg2. Thank you always. I'm still shy to edit, you know. But I did a little bit. I appreciate your encouraging words. Best regards.--Oda Mari 16:34, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

I only looked one year each side is this part of an active project? The prod also mentioned that this article has taged as unreferenced since June 2006, so it fails verifiability do you have any references you can add to the article. unreferenced material is subject to removal at anytime.

Tokugawa Mitsukuni

Fg2-san: Yours is an elegant mind. The reasoning which motivated your most recent edit in this trivial article is plausibly important -- not so much in the context of a popular television program as in the finesse which seems to inform your broader view of intra-Wiki links. Could I invite you to expand on the factors which informed your modest, but seemingly thoughtful edits?Ooperhoofd 04:47, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Not entirely sure I understand the question. Are you asking why I linked to the article on the television show? I did that because the television show is about him. So my thinking is that people who read an article about the person might be interested in reading about the television show about him. Hence the link. The article Tokugawa Mitsukuni is on my watchlist, and so when you edited it, linking to a television station in New York City that rebroadcasts the television series, I looked for but didn't see a link to the television series. In a sense, your adding a link inspired me to add one also. If I understood the question, I've answered it; if not, I can write some more... Fg2 08:08, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
Whoops! I just discovered I undid your addition of a link. That was not intentional! I'll put it back right away. Fg2 08:15, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Adatara article

Fg2, would you be in a possition to see that the Adatara page have its name changed to Mount Adatara? I think that's the standard English title. I noticed you did the same for the Mount Bandai page and I think some broken links would be mended if the name were changed. I've already discovered one on the List of the 100 famous mountains in Japan. Thanks! Brian Adler 12:13, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! I saw your answer for Oda Mari's question and moved the article myself. Brian Adler 21:52, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Help

I've just edited the article Tetsubo page. But I don't know how to change the name of the article itself. It must be Kanabo. Please help me. --Oda Mari 18:48, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi Mari, You can click on the Move tab. It's above the article title, to the right of the Edit tab. I hope that helps! Fg2 21:25, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Your instruction helped a lot. I hope I did right. Thank you always. 頼りにしています。 Best regards. --Oda Mari 05:18, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
I think the article Makunouchi stub should be deleted. There's a long description about makunouchi bento in the article Bento. Btw, do you know fried oyster/牡蠣フライ is an original Japanese food? Oda Mari 19:08, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi Mari, I notice that the Japanese article on Makunouchi is longer and has more details. Maybe you can remove some things that are wrong and put in some correct information? Sometimes that's better than deleting. But if you want to delete it, you can use Wikipedia:Proposed deletion or Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. About 牡蠣フライ, I didn't know it was a Japanese original. Very delicious! Fg2 06:38, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
