Verification and NPOV

Here is a response to your query that someone posted on my talk page:

The best way to ensure that others know material you add is true is to provide a reference within the article. Including the link in the edit summary is also helpful, but sources should be referenced primarily within the article. SWAdair 07:26, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would add that additions must not only be verifiable in reliable sources (accomplished by citing your sources, as SWAdair suggests), but must also be written in a neutral point of view. The addition to Al Gore, which stated, in part, "Failing grades and poor performance continued to haunt him", is doubtfully written from a neutral point of view (extensive use of adjectives to characterize something or someone is usually a tipoff, and "haunt" is a bit much). Finally, when dealing with articles about living persons, Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living persons requires that unreferenced negative material about such persons be removed. If you feel that you can provide references to reliable sources for the material you added and if you can reword it so that it complies with neutral point of view (NPOV), feel free to make a similar addition to the article.
