Hi! I am totally new here, since the Wiki ban in Turkey was only removed yesterday. I live in Istanbul, Turkey.

My aim is to get our street animal portal BustedTails.com (in Turkish KirikKuyruk.com) on wiki. So, I am not really neutral and should not be writing an article about ourselves, but want it up. I try to be as neutral as I can. The article is being reviewed for now, or better in the waiting line. Apparently it can take up to 4 months to find out if it was rejected. That is a slow process.

In fact, I am not even sure, this is the right talk to write...still learning. Sorry if I made mistakes.

Kind regards, Chris Feiland (talk) 11:18, 16 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission at Articles for creation: BustedTails.com (January 19)

[edit]
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted because it included copyrighted content, which is not permitted on Wikipedia. You are welcome to write an article on the subject, but please do not use copyrighted work. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 21:50, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Curb Safe Charmer: Hi Curb, Thanks for your edit and feedback. First, sorry if I cause chaos here, since this is all new and confusing to me. About your comment: I am confused though. You are right, the text is mostly taken from the mentioned PDF (which is a Press Release) and has been slightly edited. The mentioned PDF has a comment on top of it: "Press Release (for immediate use)" and to my knowledge as TV-Journalist, Press releases have no copyright. They are meant to be used by any media outlet for publication. In fact, it is explicitly the aim of any press release to be "used" and most little outlets copy & paste press releases 100% and publish them. Also, according to Wiki: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Press_release [1] Please, let me know how to make it clear that there is no copy right issue here. I could rewrite the text, but basically it is just flipping words, I wrote the press release myself, as mentioned in the edit and changed some stuff to be, hopefully, more neutral. Or did I misunderstand the issue? Have a great evening. Chris Feiland (talk) 22:59, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  1. ^ "Distribution Models: ... In this approach, press releases are either sent directly to local newspapers or to free and paid distribution services. The distribution service then provides the content, as-is, to their media outlets for publication which is usually online."
@Feiland: Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. There's no guarantee that once you've complied with that the article will be accepted. You still have to meet the WP:notability criteria. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 08:12, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Curb Safe Charmer: Thank you for the information. I did some reading and added the suggested copyright text to: https://kirikkuyruk.com/faq/ Hope that will solve the issue. Thanks, Chris Feiland (talk) 10:45, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:BustedTails.com

[edit]

@Justlettersandnumbers: Sorry, but why did you delete the draft? The mentioned copyright issue is not the way it is shown and I commented/corrected it. Please, restore it. Or can I? I am new here. Thanks Feiland (talk) 17:16, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! I've moved this here, as a draft is not the place to ask a question. No, you can't restore it, and if you re-create it it may be deleted again. Everything Curb Safe Charmer says above is correct. I see that you've added a CC BY-SA 3.0 release to https://kirikkuyruk.com/faq/, but that conflicts with the text above it, "We encourage you to share and use any part of our portal for non-commercial usage, as long as you do not change the content, our logo, name without prior written permission", and so we still wouldn't be able to accept it. If you wish, I'll restore the page once this is resolved, but please reflect on a few points: Wikipedia does not tolerate promotion of any kind; you're trying to write about a website that has no content (it just redirects to kirikkuyruk.com); you evidently have a conflict of interest, which should be fully disclosed (even more so if it is paid in any way); and you still need to show that the site is notable by Wikipedia standards, which for companies and organisations is quite a high bar. You can reply or ask questions here, I should see if you do so. Good luck, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 17:57, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Justlettersandnumbers: Hi! Thanks for the detailed feedback and the offer to reply here. I understand your concern and do want to mention that it is purely a social responsible cause. I did disclose in the intro and my talk page that I have an interest in conflict and hoped for others to edit it too. Nothing here I want to hide, since ethics, being a TV Journalist, is very important to me. May I tell you why I am trying to publish this article? We run KiriKuyruk.com (we have the Turkish domain name and BustedTails.com which diverts to Kirikkuyruk.com) in Turkish, but since many foreigners live in Turkey and actively help street animals also wanted a domain easily to remember for those that do not speak Turkish. Here I am writing in Wiki Eng and thus figured using "BustedTails.com" makes more sense, but it is not important to me. Writing in German would be easier for me, Turkish not at all, even though I speak it. Why the article? We share all the help classifieds entered on our portal on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/kirikkuyruk/). Facebook has a "i" in post shares with external links (like our portal) and the information always is taken from Wikipedia. The only reason I want an entry is that the blank is gone. Wikiepdia´s ban in Turkey was lifted last Friday only and I wanted to use the chance to write the article. The bar might be high, but I truly believe it can help to end the suffering of many street animals, if used the way we intend it. And, according to my research, it is the only Street Animal Portal in the world. Could not find anything similar so far. And "no" we did not get paid for this. I lose lots of money and time with it. We pay the portal from our own pockets, run it in our free time and if we should ever get advertisement money will donate 100% to shelters. The text, I could rewrite, but I am totally overworked and tried to use what we had created before. If I understood correct, you suggest we should use the main name, rather than the English one. I would appreciate any other advice. Maybe I should just not bother. It is not that important to me any ways, but would be nice. (Also, I am running the "Foreign Media Association Turkey", probably that would also possible to add to wiki (FMATurkey.org) Sorry to spam you here, I really appreciate it. Feiland (talk) 20:04, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Chris, it all sounds fine and full of merit, and I wish you every success with it. What is probably not going to be fine is trying to use this encyclopaedia to publicise it. Our content is based exclusively on what is published in independent reliable sources. Unless you're sure that you can identify say five or six of those that cover your project in depth and in detail, it's probably not worth pursuing; that would exclude any source connected to the organisation, and any page (such as the La Stampa "article") that is just a rehash of a press-release. Again, good luck! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:35, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh wow, even "La Stampa" is not a real source. That is quite interesting, they did not even ask for an interview with us, like most do not...media is running our of money and time. We do had big daily Turkish Newspaper and TV channels reporting about us, but most really just copy and paste - I mean, we are not Microsoft. But thanks. I did find how to disclose it and will try the Turkish name plus the help forum I finally discovered. ThanksFeiland (talk) 20:44, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Kingboyk: Hello, I am new and confused. I meant to save it as draft, since it was not done. I am not aware, I made it public or wanted it reviewed. Only about 20% of the sources were mentioned so far. Could I or you restore it?

Thanks Feiland (talk) 16:17, 23 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and welcome. The deleting administrator was User:Bbb23. We don't usually automatically restore articles deleted under criterion A7, but perhaps you can persuade Bbb23 that you will be able to prove the web site is notable and have them move the article to the draft space. I wouldn't rate your chances though given that Draft:BustedTails.com about the same site was also deleted. --kingboyk (talk) 16:26, 23 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
