Environmental Protection Userbox

[edit]

Hi Faustus Tacitus,

Thanks for using the userbox that I created (the one about supporting environmental protection). I'm glad that there're people in the world who care about the environment just as much as I do. Please encourage your friends to put up this userbox if they have accounts in Wikipedia. If you have any questions about environmental protection, please don't hesitate to contact me by wiki.

An Automated Message from HagermanBot

[edit]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! HagermanBot 23:43, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User Box instructions

[edit]
  1. Regarding display of user boxes on your user page: You might want to consider using a table to display your boxes in a grid. If you look at versions of my user page from about a month ago, you will see me doing the same thing. This was because my page was largely empty. The table helps force a nice layout. It would ensure that all boxes got the same amount of space and there are no blank spots. Also, when I tried to tile the boxes without a table, I sometimes got boxes to the right of what I could see. Tables solved that problem until I had more content. Even in my current page, some boxes are still in a table.
  2. Creating your own private gallery like User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes: If needed, feel free to copy the source of my page. However, don't move or edit mine. Also, be sure to remove all links to my pages and all of my user boxes. Feel free to copy {{User:Will Pittenger/UBLink}} and modify it to use your namespace rather than mine. (The page is actually a shortcut to the real template. You may want both.)
  3. Tips for creating your own user boxes: I'm a lousy artist. So I have to suggest you ask someone else this one. The only thing I can suggest, if your box will add a category to pages, be sure to add a {{{sample only}}} parameter. That allows you to hide the category from pages that don't need it. This would include all galleries.
  4. Adding entries to the New User Box gallery: Begin every section you add with {{clear}}. You may need more {{clear}}'s for each entry depending on how it lays out. Add both a link, with {{tl}} (for template namespace boxes) or {{tlu}} (for user namespace boxes), and a sample of the box (call it). Sign your post like the page was a talk page.
  5. Adding entries to the main user box galleries: Each gallery page does things it's own way. So, I have to provide too sets of instructions here. The system used could vary depending on which section you want to add to. Hence, check to see which they use in that section before proceding. If you are creating the section, you are free to choose. Look up {{tlrow}} and {{tlurow}} for information on how to start a compatible table for use with those templates.
    1. If {{tlrow}} or {{tlurow}} were used in the section:
      • Use {{tlrow}} for templates in the template namespace. Pass the Templates name as the parameter. Convert any spaces to underscores manually as this confuses the template.
      • Use {{tlurow}} for templates in the user namespace. Pass the Templates name as the parameter. Convert any spaces to underscores manually as this confuses the template.
    2. Otherwise, add a table row manually using wiki syntax. Normally, the first cell will be your template name in the format "{{[[template name]]}}". The brackets for the link keep the template from expanding. Make the second cell a sample of your template.

Editors that don't provide an edit summary tend to look like vandals

[edit]

I have noticed you commonly don't enter an edit summary as you didn't when you edited Turkish Delight (see this edit). This causes me problems. When I patrol for vandalism, I use the summary to make a preliminary decision on whether or not the post is a vandal edit or not. If the summary is present (or at least a section header, the part inside the /* */), I commonly decide the edit is legit and move on.

However, if no edit summary is available, I typically resort to loading the diff for the edit. This takes time. For that reason, if your edits are all valid, I ask that you provide edit summaries. For more on how to enter an edit summary, please read Help:Edit summary.

Incidentally, it is not just me that appreciate having edit summaries. When you omit your summary, you may be telling various bots that you are vandalizing pages. For this reason, please consider providing that summary. It is very important. You can enter that summary via the edit summary box on edit pages (as shown below).

The edit summary appears in black italics in the following places: * Use the enhanced watchlist to see all recent changes in the watched pages, not just the last change in each page.

Submissive userbox

[edit]

Hey, thanks for using my userbox (and especially the user category, since those seem to be vanishing right and left these days). :3 I don't, however, know of any place that might be used to advertise either that wouldn't constitute spam. Any ideas on your end? Blast 18,02,07 00:51 (UTC)

Thanks for the links. :3 Maybe some people will notice it and use it now! :D Blast 23,02,07 1026 (UTC)

Thanks

Nope!

No mistake! I am not religious. I am a Christian. Christianity is a relationship with Jesus, not a relgion. (Religion - a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices) I am in no way religious. -Working for Him 18:28, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, and I don't understand your question? Are you saying I'm gnostic? -Working for Him 17:22, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
