Requested move
[edit]User:Faustus III → Philosopher in Meditation –
Trying to get my newly-created article out of the User space and get a title on itDr. J. Kauffmann 13:41, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
I was not able to create a title for the article and hoped that the move request might fix things. Now I am lost amid all this Wiki jargon. Then came the page "Edit Philosopher in Meditation," so I transfered the article there and "saved" it. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry for any confusion I may have created. Thank you. Dr. J. Kauffmann 20:24, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
Thank you Ericoides for the help in fixing the title and picture. I was able to merge the improved version with the edited version of today. Is there any way to talk (write) with someone for feedback? Dr. J. Kauffmann 11:09, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
- I seem to have barged in on a work in progress... Apologies. If there are any technical issues you have just state them here and I'll have a look later today. (PS remember to sign your posts with four tildes so people know who is who! (eg 4 x ~ after your post). Regards, Ericoides (talk) 12:17, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
- No, not barged, but helped. As I said, I am new to this and learning by doing. For some reason there was an editing conflict and I had to replace the old text with a newer version edited today (I am constantly editing) this resulted in two images being posted. I deleted the second one and renamed the first. I would like to add more images, but don't know how/where to upload them. The footnotes have gotten out of hand and I may have to make a separate bibliography and use references in the notes. How do I do this? Thank you for any help. Does my user name have to be the same as my signature? Dr. J. Kauffmann 20:48, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
- If you want to upload images, do so here, but perhaps first check that the image has not already been uploaded (this might be done automatically). There is a collection of Rembrandt's works here. The footnotes look fine to me, but if you want to have footnotes and a biblio this might be a good example. What troubles me is the caption to the image. Given that the article's title is "Philosopher in Meditation", the image should be called so too (with the alternative title in parentheses). I have taken the liberty of making this change. And finally, your user name need not be your real name. I, for instance, am called Mark not Ericoides. But if you use the four tildes it will sign you as Faustus III, which is the correct protocol. Ericoides (talk) 05:30, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
- You did the right thing in renaming the image as you did. The title of the painting is the whole quandary and part of the reason why I posted this article. As for the images, thank you for the link. However, some are images of my own making. As for the user name/signature thing, I am confused since I was once given the option of writing in a signature, and I used another name, which is the one that appears when I do the four tilde thing. Thanks again for the help and suggestions. 91.19.222.152 (talk) 09:00, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
- To upload images on Commons click this link and follow the instructions. Getting the correct copyright tag is the key requirement but it's all quite straightforward. If I were you I'd log in as Faustus III and then do the four-tilde thing. Then people will recognise who you are over time. Ericoides (talk) 11:17, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the extra information about uploading images, I will look into this soon (working on the article is getting to be addictive). I have changed my signature to conform with my user name. Here goes Faustus III 09:18, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Request Removed. It appears that the article is at it's correct location, I am removing the Requested Moves template. If I am removing this in error, please add the template again with the correct information to describe the request. Happy editing. Cliff (talk) 18:54, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for attending to this, Cliff. There was a moment of initial confusion that resulted in this mix-up. The article seeems to be where it belongs, as far as I, a greenhorn, can tell. Faustus III 21:20, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
- I've added the painting to the template that you put at the bottom of the page. If you want to know how this is done – and the painting should be included if the template is on the page (you'll see it now shows up in bold) – here's how. On another matter, the page has an orphan tag right at the top, which means that few other pages on Wikipedia link to it (the fact that this page shows links to quite a few merely reflects the fact that the page has now been included in the Rembrandt template, all of which link to the page you started). It might be a good idea to try and find other places where you could insert a link to it, then more people will be able to read it. The Salomon Koninck page might be a good place to insert a short sentence and a link, for instance. Ericoides (talk) 11:38, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
- We are synchronized. I added the navbox on the odd chance that it might work, but hadn't gotten around to finding out how to edit it. Finding places to link from is not an easy task and I have done what I could for now within reason. Koninck is only a stub. I am confident that people will find their way to this page through the title. Is there any way to keep track of how often the page is consulted? Thank you for the assistance. Faustus III 13:57, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
- It's still worth adding a sentence to the Koninck page, IMO. The more people who do this, the less time it'll be a stub... To find out how often a page is looked at, click the view history tab and then click the page view statistics link at the top right. This page should appear. And remember the four-tilde thing! The "Orphan" issue seems to have been solved. I have followed your advice re: Salomon Koninck, who still awaits his savior from oblivion. Is your status that of an administrator, editor? Are you the person to contact for all issues? Thanks again. Faustus III 09:54, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
- Great. No, I'm just an everyday editor, nothing special at all. I somehow stumbled across your new page, thought it looked interesting and it went from there. But if you ever have any queries just ask on my talk page; I look at it most days. Ericoides (talk) 11:32, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
- Have been making changes and additions to the article, but also working on a version in French (mostly a translation of the English one). In order to do this, I registered separately (in all good faith). Then I gradually noticed that the Usernames gave me access to both versions. Could this become a source of confusion? Should I unregister and keep only one Username? Faustus III 11:30, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
Hi, User:Faustus III, I noticed the image was deleted. It has been replaced in the meantime. Just in case you wish to make any changements. Also, the reference [32] looks weird, more specifically Heet is en kunst om zu lezen, I do not know what this means, but it is surely no good Dutch. Lotje (talk) 13:01, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
