User talk:Fanatic32
Hi, to avoid an edit war, let's discuss the issue here Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Swimming#Meet locations in section headers (biographic articles). Thanks and have a good day, Gap9551 (talk) 19:13, 20 November 2015 (UTC)
- I appreciate it a lot that you have come to Wikipedia to help us improve swimmer's articles. It's just that sometimes we have to discuss issues we disagree on. We all try to make things easiest to read and understand for readers, and have consistency across articles. Gap9551 (talk) 21:03, 20 November 2015 (UTC)
Can you give me the url for formal name of swimming championship? I don't think putting 25m is necessary at the end.
- Hi, did you mean to reply to my comment at the bottom of the page? In that section (User talk:Fanatic32#2006 FINA World Swimming Championships (25 m)) is a link to the official FINA site to the next s/c worlds edition. Also, adding "25 m" helps avoiding confusion with the long course world championships. Gap9551 (talk) 20:23, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, but I can't see the full url, so could you write it down here again? Thanks.
- Sure: http://www.fina.org/content/13th-fina-world-swimming-championships-25m-2016 Gap9551 (talk) 20:53, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
Ok, but isn't it ok to erase ()? I think it's unnecessary to put it, since it says short course or just championship 25m.
- Not really. We have thousands of such articles across hundreds of events and years, and the consensus has been to append the length. As mentioned below, making changes to things like this needs to be discussed first. There are many things that may seem trivial that have been arrived at through community discussion, and it is generally not considered good form to unilaterally change them. CrowCaw 21:04, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
- I see you moved the page again, removing the parentheses, without discussing it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Swimming like I suggested below. Unsurprisingly, I moved the page back for the third time in two days. I encourage you again to discuss significant changes you'd like to make with other editors of swimming articles who are likely more experienced in the conventions of article naming and the reasons behind it. Can you at least explain why you think the 2006 article should have a different name format than, for example, the 2004 and 2008 articles of the same tournament? Thanks, Gap9551 (talk) 22:24, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
Hey, sorry about that. Could you help me upload the profile image of parktaehwan? It's my first time uploading Wikipedia. Here is the source: https://www.flickr.com/photos/koreanet/15178553628/in/photolist-p8h4bu-p8gnvh-p8gmAm-p8fNk1-p8gXZM-p8gzjs-pnHJRA-pnHXmq-p8gor5-pptXRe-p8go6s-p8fLZz-p8gwTM-pnJNt3-pptxTK-ppuzkF-ppJuEw-p8h85k-pnJH45-p8ga95-p8gvnS-p8gVkS-pnJPhs-p8guF1-pnJQku-p8gWiS-p8grd9-ppu2xT-pnJgyY-p8h22u-p8hgLP-p8hpdx-p8gai2-pnJyY7-pnJpYJ-p8hiH5-ppLE8Z-pnJBoC-p8geKt-p8h589-p8gN6w-pnJy9S-p8gGGy-pptScP-p8gJGf-pnHQLS-p8gHdo-ppJAF9-ppJgCQ-cGTkrfI I appreciate in advance. I put all the liscense requirement, and I think this picture satisfies the requirement. What do you think? P.S. Sorry about that. my bad.
- What exactly do you need help with? When you upload an image, first make sure it is free content (not copyrighted, see Wikipedia:Image use policy). Then, read this for further steps: Wikipedia:Uploading images. Here you can upload: Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard. I'm not sure about if that image is free content, if in doubt you can ask the owner, or ask for help at the Teahouse. You can also get assistance at Wikipedia:Files for upload. Thanks for the information.

Capitals
[edit]Hi, about your question about using capitals for 'medal', Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Capital letters says Wikipedia avoids unnecessary capitalization. It doesn't make an exception for 'medal'. Why do you think that using a capital makes the article easier to read? Also, it is better to first discuss an issue that is disputed (as indicated by an edit having been reverted) before making the same edit again. Gap9551 (talk) 21:27, 20 November 2015 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use File:Park tae hwan gold medal in bejing olympic.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Park tae hwan gold medal in bejing olympic.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. January (talk) 19:03, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
Taehwan Park
[edit]Hello, just so you know, even though this is the English Wikipedia, there is a longstanding consensus that Korean names should start with the family name, unless the subject is confirmed (and cited) to prefer otherwise. See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Korean) for that naming convention. Please adjust your edits accordingly, and thanks! CrowCaw 19:59, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
Hi, why did you move this page (dropping the "(25 m)") without moving all the other editions (such as 2014 FINA World Swimming Championships (25 m)) to the same name format? Names of different editions of a tournament should have the same name (except for the year). Even if FINA uses the name you prefer (which I doubt, see e.g. the name for the next edition which includes "(25 m)"), names should be consistent. Either change none or change all, but if you want to change all, please discuss it first at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Swimming. Thanks, Gap9551 (talk) 20:05, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
- Note: this discussion continues above at User talk:Fanatic32#Park Tae-hwan. Gap9551 (talk) 22:25, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
License tagging for File:Taehwan Park in Incheon Asiangame.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Taehwan Park in Incheon Asiangame.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 23:05, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:Park tae hwan gold medal in bejing olympic.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Park tae hwan gold medal in bejing olympic.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 03:38, 1 December 2015 (UTC)
