Thanks for your response on my Talk page. "Bare" external links really ought to be adding sparingly to articles. The best way to incorporate external links into articles is to contribute content that can be learned about from that link, and then cite the content using that link. This gives the Wikipedia article useful content information, as well as the authority of a citation, which WP so desperately needs in many of its articles.
