Week 4/ Add 2 Citations/ Yifeng Li
Hi Professor,
This week I edited 2 articles related to my research topic, Buyer decision process and Sentiment analysis. I found both of them are lack of citations in introduction part, so I added two citations in them.
The differences are following: diff Buyer Decision Process, diff Sentiment Analysis
I learned that detailed research would make me know more about the topic and make every sentence we write traceable and reasonable.--Yifeng Li (talk) 19:02, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
- Yifeng Li, I prefer you to add a sentence or two of text to explain what you mean, but you did add high quality, credible citations to these articles that both needed them. FULBERT (talk) 22:16, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
- FULBERT, the lead in Buyer Decision Process Wikipedia cited an opinion of Herbert A. Simon, a Nobel Prize in Economics winner, without citation. Therefore I added a citation to it. For sentiment analysis, I added a citation I also used in my research which is appropriate for the Wiki.--Yifeng Li (talk) 22:58, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
- Yifeng Li, I asked you to revise what you added to the these, as you added citations without any additions of text as per the assignment. Please add and reping me with diffs. FULBERT (talk) 22:53, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

Week 5/ Add 2 Citations/ Yifeng Li
Hi Professor,
This week I edited 2 articles I'm interested in, Tag cloud and Random permutation. I found both of them are lack of citations, so I added two citations in them.
The first difference: diff Tag cloud In the lead part of tag cloud, the wiki page detailed the advantage and application of tag cloud without citation. Therefore, I added one citation to make it retrievable.
The second difference: diff Random permutation The random permutation wiki page has no citation or reference, which is inappropriate in an academic topic about a statistical methodology. Thus, I added one citation to the Statistics on random permutation part, which is related to the probability distribution of the number of fixed points of a uniformly distributed random permutation.
I learned that the workload of completing a great wiki page is immense, every contributor is deserved to respect.--Yifeng Li (talk) 19:57, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
- Yifeng Li, Add explanatory text as with Week 4 and reping me when done. FULBERT (talk) 22:54, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
- FULBERT, I added some more texts in revisions, diff Tag cloud, diff Random permutation.--Yifeng Li (talk) 21:54, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- Yifeng Li, The instructions state, "Be sure to provide a sentence or two to express each of your contributions in context, and demonstrate how they add to the knowledge in the article." I did not see evidence of more than a word being added. Please revise and reping me. FULBERT (talk) 22:48, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

Bonus / Reflective essay / ANTTONNY
My overall experience with Wikipedia was pleasant. Although the interface is a bit "old school" than what I've expected, however, the overall usability was easy and intuitive to use with clear directions and instructions.
What I did this six weeks:
2002–2004 SARS outbreak - Added citation
Macau Grand Prix - Added citation, context, and image
Nissan GT-R - Added citation and restructure sentences
Point forward - Revise minor errors and contribute to talk page
Telecommuting - Added citation and context
Virtual workplace - Added citation and context
I learned all the fundamentals for editing Wikipedia articles. Such as how to perform basic functions on editing Wikipedia, adding citations, rules on evaluating articles, assessing sources credibility, compliance with publishing materials, etc.
I always know that I could edit Wikipedia articles, and this is my first experience editing articles on Wikipedia. I was genuinely surprised by the size of the Wikipedia community and the number of people contributed. Also, I am surprised by how many flaws and gaps I found in Wikipedia. Furthermore, I am amazed by the number of viewership on all 14 of our student editors edited articles. At the moment I was writing, 552K Views. (If this number is on our social media page, we would be "viral")
Although editing and contributing to Wikipedia is extra work and can be time-consuming, however, if I have the time in the future and it is convenient for me to do so, I will try to contribute in the future.
ANTTONNY (talk) 09:01, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- ANTTONNY, Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this, and I think you really hit the area about why I do this work at all, which is for the enormous positive impact we have here, even in this one single course, based on sheer count of those who have seen stronger and more reliable articles as a result of our edits. Hope you continue with this! FULBERT (talk) 00:50, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
Bonus / Reflective essay / Qing Mei
During the past 6 weeks, I added 7 citations on 7 different articles, and either make revises or add more information on it. Furthermore, I inserted an image on one article as well. My overall experience with working on Wikipedia is very impressive, I learned a lot about how to use this tool to share information with people all around the world. After I master these technics I feel proud and so pleased that I spent plenty of time learning how to use Wiki.
What I did this six weeks:
Coca-Cola - Added citation, add information
Siopao - Added citation
Cognitive distortion - Added citation and information
Yellow soybean past - add citations
Zhajiangmian - Added citation and information
Games and culture - Added citation and context
BMW M2 - Added citations and revise context
British shorthair - Insert an image
I learned all skills that be taught in this class for editing Wikipedia articles. For example, adding citations, how to identify the gaps between articles, how to find a good article to translate, how to insert pictures, and what we need to pay attention on the copyright, etc.
I knew Wikipedia is open for everybody to use and share knowledge before this class, however, I don't know how exactly it works and these rigorous and complex processes and rules that needed to be mastered before we edit or adding something on it. I think the most impressive part for me is the gaps and differences between Wikipedia in different languages. For example, there are more than 3000000 articles in English but only less than 10000 articles in Maori. It tells me that there is always space that we could work on to make it better.
I will definitely keep working on Wikipedia since it is really a fascinating job when you working on it, for my next step, I will find a good article that I can translate from Chinese into English or vice versa.
--Qingmei95 (talk) 10:11, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- Qingmei95, Thanks for sharing your thoughts here, and you are right, there is a gap between what different language and cultural communities have, which allows us many opportunities to take our skills and experiences and use them to help fill these gaps. I hope you continue with this! FULBERT (talk) 00:53, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
Bonus/ Reflective essay/ HANZHI ZOU
In the past several weeks, I added several citations, comments, images to Problematic Smartphone Use, Problematic Social Media Use, Internet Addiction, Online Gaming Addiction NARUTO and BORUTO.
At the very first time, I thought it would be very difficult for me to do these things that I never did before. But I found it can be very interesting and exciting when I can finish them one by one. This is a very nice learning process for me.
I learned how to add citations and comments to these public online sources which also makes me more sensitive to those public information resources' precision.
I will definitely do more of these things in my future study since adding more details to a thing I'm interested in is very satisfying.
HANZHIZOU (talk) 13:50, 29 June 2020 (UTC)
- HANZHIZOU, Thanks for adding these final thoughts, and I hope you continue trying this. Doing edits based on your area of interest is how many of us started editing Wikipedia! FULBERT (talk) 00:55, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

Bonus / Reflective Essay / Yifeng Li
Hi Professor,
1. How did you decide what to add to your chosen article? (in Guiding question)
I usually choose the article I’m conducting the research and know much about, because in these articles I have enough knowledge and have read some literature. I believe my knowledge can help me contribute to these articles. If a sentence seems like an opinion, I will try to find related literature and add a citation. If an academic article has the visualization potential, I will go to Wikipedia image database to find pictures with high relevance and insert it.
A summary of my edits (in Guiding question): Ggplot2: comment, copyedit / ARIMA: citation / Buyer Decision Process: citation / Sentiment Analysis: citation / Tag cloud: citation, copyedit / Random permutation: citation, copyedit / Sticky tofu: insert an image
2. During these six weeks, my Wikipedia experience is splendid. After learning each module, I feel myself know more about Wikipedia little by little. Previously, I’m an information seeker when I look at Wikipedia. After the Wikipedia course assignments, I can see every word or sentence in Wikipedia from more different angles, thinking whether the reference is reliable and whether I can contribute to this topic article.
3. In this Wikipedia course assignment, I have learnt the method to edit the content, include copyediting and inserting an image. Also, I have learnt the difference between plagiarism and correct reference, which helps me avoid similar problems in my academic writing. Finally, I have learnt the method to cite a reference, which not only makes the article more academic, but also makes the encyclopedia Wikipedia more credible.
4. I think I should continue my Wikipedia editing afterwards, because this is a good opportunity to help me think about my research topic and look up the literature. I love Wikipedia!--Yifeng Li (talk) 18:35, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
- Yifeng Li, I so hope you take this energy and continue working with Wikipedia in this way . . . that is how I started 3+ years ago, and now thousands of edits and guidance later, I feel I am making a positive contribution toward open and accessible knowledge. FULBERT (talk) 00:59, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
Bonus/Reflective Essay/Kevin Tian06
1. Why verify The verification can help us to identify the reliable resources for the article we edit. The reliable resources include textbooks, literature reviews, books or publications written by professional people. 2. What your experience was like (overall) with this Wikipedia course assignment. At the beginning, I think that it is a boring work to do. However, I think that is very interest after I wrote something. I can fix something were wrong before and transfer the right answers to people who is looking for some answer. This work is meaningful for me. 3. What you learned. From this assignment, I learned how to add information to the article. In addition, I have learned what it is the right and reliable resource for the article. I also know how to evaluate an article, what is the standards of evaluation for the articles. 4. Why / why not you intend to continue editing on Wikipedia. I think that I will continually edit on the Wikipedia if I have time. as I said before, what we do is meaningful. We can make the contribution to the information searcher. If we can provide the right information to them, they can save the cost and reduce the misunderstand.

Hi Professor, during the past six weeks, I evaluated more than seven articles in Wikipedia. I learned to add citations and revised the contents about each articles with the aims of improving its creditability and reliability. Also, I know that inserting a image in an article would help that article become more attractive and easily impressive.
Editing Wikipedia articles is a new experience for me, and I think it is help for me to go deeply of my research. For example, once I found an article, I would evaluate its contents and creditability. Furthermore, I know the importance of copyright and the way we cited the reference.
Hence, I will continue editing on Wikipedia after this course. I would keep revising the errors and improving the articles in Wikipedia. My overall experience with working on Wikipedia is quite good and useful, I learned a lot from it. Thank you so much!

Bonus/ Reflective essay/ Junwei Sheng
Hi, professor. The six-week study on Wikipedia brings full of fun and knowledge to me. I have learned how to evaluate an article, how to cite resources for an article, and how to insert images into an article. I have assigned more than five articles during these weeks, which are linked to my research topic for this semester. Before this class, I knew very little about Wikipedia. I thought that it was just a place that we could search for information that we wanted to know. However, it is a place where everyone can improve or edit useful information if people have enough pieces of evidence. Before citing references, we must make sure that the resources are third-partied, reliable, and credible. I am glad to be a member of Wikipedia. I will keep working on that to acquire more knowledge.
Thank you.

WEEK 6/ reflective essay/ Yuxin LI
Hi professor, for the overall experience of using Wiki edit, I learned so many things from the article evaluation, choosing the article and how to add and cite the sentences. I realize some of the articles did not have high-quality references and the argument is not clear. From the article evaluation, I learned I should choose the article with high-quality references. If the article is lack of high quality, I will add the references to that.over 6 weeks edits, I choose most of the article is related to my research paper and my interests. I can use what I already know to view the article and also could add something need in the article. I did not receive anything from feedback, but someone deletes my edits once because the person said my edits repeats with other sections. I realize I need to review the whole article carefully before edits anything. Comparing to other assignments, this assignment is a different experience to regular assignments, I could get to learn the whole process of Wikipedia edits and understand why most professors said do not use Wikipedia when you want to search something. I will continue to edit on my interesting section because many sections need to updates and people can have their own thoughts on the talk page.Yuxin L- (talk) 13:14, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

I noticed that you tagged Gary James Jason with {{prod blp}} for proposed deletion. I have removed the tag from the article because it does not meet the criteria specified. The placement requirements are (a) that subject is living, and (b) that the article contains no sources in any form (as references, external links, etc., reliable or otherwise) supporting any statements made about the person in the biography. Please fully read Wikipedia:Proposed deletion of biographies of living people before tagging articles for proposed deletion. Thank you. Adam9007 (talk) 15:30, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi professor @FULBERT:
- Same as week4, I added two citations for two different articles. They are Free cash flow and Bond duration. The differences for these two articles are:Diff1 and diff2.

Week 7 / Reflective essay / Jiayu Xu
Hi professor @FULBERT:
- Respond to something in the Guiding questions training (above)
- I like these series of tutorial videos and short introduction, because they taught me a lot how to use Wikipedia, such as making evaluation, adding citations, using talk page etc. It is really great why to know the system in very short term.
- What your experience was like (overall) with this Wikipedia course assignment.
- I like this assignment very much! I feel like I was one of contributor for making the giant free encyclopedia. At least I did something for humanity.
- What you learned.
- I learned how to assign articles for myself, and continuously edit the article until it is perfect. Also, I can leave a message for others revising articles.
- Why / why not you intend to continue editing on Wikipedia.
- I would like to continue edit on Wikipedia, because I think it is a great job for me and even for everyone. So many people are watching and caring about the context for each article that I almost can get an unbiased context and more effectively reading.
Jiayu Xu (talk) 11:03, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
- Jiayu Xu, Thanks for your final reflections on this, though our course ended two days ago and that was when this as an assignment was due. FULBERT (talk) 14:44, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

grants
Perhaps I've been misinformed. Can you clarify that W?F hasn't impinged on your work on the grants committee? Chris Troutman (talk) 18:55, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
- Chris troutman, I am not sure I am following what you are asking. I am a member of the Project Grants Committee, is that what you mean? FULBERT (talk) 19:10, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, I had heard a dirty rumor months ago that all the community members of the committee were fired. Apparently that wasn't so. Chris Troutman (talk) 21:19, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
- Chris troutman, I certainly hope not, as I spent a lot of time working through the most recent set of grant applications. FULBERT (talk) 13:37, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
