My stupid mistake
I've struck through the part of my "oppose" vote because the part about the archiving of your talk page was totally my stupid mistake in not seeing your archives. I don't know how I missed them, but I certainly apologize for that, and for saying that it hinted at your trying to hide something. Obviously that is not the case, your archiving appears to be completely transparent, and the inference I drew was based -- as I said -- on my error. Sorry about that - if you'd like me to make it clearer on the RfA than it is at the moment, please let me know and I'll be glad to do so. BMK (talk) 05:14, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, I very nearly opposed much sooner and much more strongly because I was misled into thinking User talk:EuroCarGT/2013/June-August v2 was your most recent archive, and that its contents were representative of your current actions. It's still the most recent one linked from the top of your page - in two places. WikiCup 2015 March newsletter
That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. 64 competitors made it into this round, and are now broken into eight groups of eight. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups. Round 1 saw some interesting work on some very important articles, with the round leader Freikorp (submissions) owing most of his 622 points scored to a Featured Article on the 2001 film Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within which qualified for a times-two multiplier. This is a higher score than in previous years, as Godot13 (submissions) had 500 points in 2014 at the end of round 1, and our very own judge, Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) led round 1 with 601 points in 2013.
In addition to Freikorp's work, some other important articles and pictures were improved during round one, here's a snapshot of a few of them:
- Cwmhiraeth (submissions) took Bumblebee, a level-4 vital article, to Good Article;
- AHeneen (submissions) worked-up the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 article, also to Good Article status;
- Rodw (submissions) developed an extremely timely article to Good Article, taking Magna Carta there some 800 years after it was first sealed;
- And last but not least, Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points) worked up a number of Featured Pictures during round 1, including the 1948 one Deutsche Mark (pictured right), receiving the maximum bonus due to the number of Wikis that the related article appears in.
You may also wish to know that The Core Contest is running through the month of March. Head there for further details - they even have actual prizes!

Its not something I think of everyday. Anyways, my main goal in being a Wikipedia editor is to be a positive contributor to the site, helping out where ever I can. It would be honoured to assist out in backlogs and Wikipedia maintenance-related pages. So I'm thinking of running for adminship certainly. Just to add, that I don't think RfA is a so-called 'battleground', 'broken process' or a harsh environment, I just have no clue when it would be a good time to become a suitable candidate. On a side note, there are so much things lately, that has lowered my participation on this site, having exams last month, lots of stress, fatigue, hurting my arm in a ski incident two weeks ago, pain and having to do so much work everyday, so hopefully I could get back in helping out the community. A few kind words
- Dear Euro. Do not be in any way discouraged by your recent RfA. A no consensus vote is a whole lot better than a fail for a start! The discussion was almost entirely civilised and attempted to deal with relevant, on-topic material, and did not descend into personal nonsense, as so many RfAs do. That was entirely a reflection of your own good and decent personality. It was you that kept it civilised. Almost all were explicit in recognising you as a good and helpful colleague and a great plus to the community, and I think that is something to be very proud of. You have no personality issues, which is a huge plus. What is more, your fundamental decency is recognised by the community. That is the most important consensus of all! My oppose was based largely on my concerns for you in what can be a harsh and ruthless place for admins. I did not want to see you hurt in any way. There are some strange people on WP, ready to twist and manipulate another's words. That can be crippling to us all but especially to an admin. Always try to express yourself clearly, simply and concisely. Read what you draft back. Say "Can I make this clearer?". Try to concentrate on working on article content for a couple of months. That clarifies one's use of language very quickly! In a few months, when you run again I'm sure you will pass. Just brush up on some of the critiques made there and take them on board. (I know it may be difficult revisiting at this time). Do not be in a rush to answer questions. Often admins take hours to respond, or even days if is a difficult decision. Do not rush to the keyboard, read up a bit, and return a measured, well thought out response. Use words wisely. Be well, and press on! With kind regards, Irondome (talk) 16:08, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

Moral support
Hi, EuroCarGT. Just wanted to say that you should try for RfA again in the future. You flubbed your answer to Q16 and it kind of sunk you. Next time, make sure to scrutinize each relevant policy that applies to each answer before you answer. All admins have gaps in their policy knowledge (there's just too much to know) but good admins are willing to refer to the policies if in doubt before taking action. I can almost guarantee that people will ask how you learned from this RfA if you run again. You'll want to be able to say not just that you know the username policy but how you prevent yourself from making wrong decisions. Anyway, I think it was mostly just an unlucky mistake under the spotlight and I'm sure you'll learn from it. I failed my first RfA. In the end I think it was a good thing.
