Your username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created User:Estate of John Ridgewell/sandbox, and I noticed that your username, "Estate of John Ridgewell", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Trammel Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "Jack Smith at the XY Foundation", and "WidgetFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a change of username, by completing this form, that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 11:29, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The page has been created by the representatives of the estate of john ridgewell. this is not a commercial organisation, merely the holder of the copyright of john ridgewell's work. no profit or commercial transactions of any form are made.

I understand you have no commercial purpose; however, your username is still that of an organization (the estate) and does not identify an individual user.(You could potentially pass this username off to someone else, or multiple people could use it, which is not permitted per the username policy.) If your name was "JohnPublic of Ridgewell Estate" or something similar that would be much better. To change it, click the words "this form" above.
The other issue is that since you represent the estate, it is a conflict of interest for you write about Mr. Ridgewell; please review the conflict of interest policy for more information. In short, you really should not directly edit in areas where you have a conflict of interest, at least not without seeking outside review(such as submitting a page through the article wizard). 331dot (talk) 21:30, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I can change my username, that's not an issue. The issue is that if I don't write about the artist John Ridgewell no-one will. I understood an encyclopaedia was supposes to spread and share knowledge. Frankly I am the best source on this artist at this time. I am not Coca-Cola talking about commercial drinks here, there is no conflict of interest in the commercial sense here. I am related by marriage into the family, I met John in his last few years and wanted to put a page together about him so that anyone who wants to know a bit about this artist would have a starting point. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Estate of John Ridgewell (talkcontribs)

I would highly suggest you change your name, so it better reflects you as an individual user(such as the format I suggest above). You do not need to totally start over with a new account; you can simply transfer to a new username by clicking the words "this form" and filling out the form there.
Regarding the page you are drafting, I would just make sure you are familiar with conflict of interest and edit in a manner accordingly. Wikipedia has important principles of neutral point of view and verifiability; I do not doubt anything that you write, and there is nothing wrong with you seeking a page about Mr. Ridgewell, but all articles must have reliable sources that are independent of the subject; it is not enough for an entire page on Mr. Ridgewell to be sourced from just his estate, as such a page would be hard to independently verify. The best thing for you to do is to continue writing your draft and seek outside review, such as by using the Articles for Creation process where you can submit your draft for review. If you do that and remain aboveboard with your association with Mr. Ridgewell's estate, you should have few problems with creating a page. 331dot (talk) 19:49, 24 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
