Hey Sprkee, I hope you've gotten over that pesky bot ruining your life... Hey, is Erickson still notable? I was thinking of {{prod}}ding him... Katr67 03:27, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll never get over it, but oh well. I'd say he's not notable. I was thinking of prodding him as well. Is there a 2006 Oregon congressional election article we could merge some of his info into? --Sprkee 03:54, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I found a suitable place for the Erickson info: United States House elections, 2006 notable races#Oregon. Care to do the honors? Katr67 06:27, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, very nice. Yeah, that does need to be updated, doesn't it? I copied his page to my sandbox, so you can proceed with the prod now if you want. Thanks for doing the leg (finger?) work. --Sprkee 15:52, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Eavesdropper buttin in… I agree that Erickson is probably not notable enough for his own article, but would strongly support moving the miminal info that's there onto the "notable races" page as Katr suggests. In which case you probably don't need to bother with a PROD - just make a redirect -Pete 00:32, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for reminding me. I think Sprkee has already moved the info. I prodded, but someone contested the prod, and I had planned to put it up for Afd instead. Not sure if someone would contest a redir, should we try it and see? Katr67 01:06, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I did move Erickson's info to the United States House elections, 2006 notable races#Oregon page. Can we redir to a subsection? And even if we can, I'm not sure it's good policy. There is also this page: Oregon's statewide elections, 2006; maybe I should put the info there as well, then we do the redir it wouldn't be so tedious for someone to find Erickson's info on it. That page would need substantially more work in general though. --Sprkee 02:24, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Now I see there is a nav box at the bottom with a link to a page called Oregon United States House elections, 2006 which it looks like neither of you really wanted to deal with and redirected it back. Maybe it wouldn't be so terrible to resurrect that page--we could move the U.S. Congress table from the Oregon's statewide elections, 2006 page, add the notable race section from the United States House elections, 2006 notable races#Oregon page and call it done. Then Erickson could redirect to that page. That make sense? Worthwhile? --Sprkee 02:29, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Erik Sten

[edit]

Hey Sprkee, thanks for rounding out the Sten article, and for giving a nod to O-Vanish. I want to point out, though, that - in my opinion - O-Vanish is not a reason to delete a citation, if there is a full citation. With a full citation, it's still pretty easy to find the paper at a brick-and-mortar library, or on the NewsBank web site. My big concern is when people only put the URL, and then it breaks. Just my 2c...otherwise, excellent additions! -Pete 19:30, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know what you mean about free-floating citations, but sometimes I will throw a significant citation on a page without a REF tag just to make sure it's available for future expansion of the article. In this case, that was a front page, two-page overview of Sten's career, which could support significant expansion of the article if somebody wants to do so. I can see that this approach might not be the best way to go about it though, and I'll try to "inline" such citations in the future. I'll try to come back later today and expand that one, and the Tribune one I added as well. Thanks for explaining your thinking! -Pete 19:47, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yep thanks for allowing me to waste my day off. I think something ceases to be spam, no matter who created it, if other people are using it extensively. (allmusic.com is commercial, but it's got a template and I've been using it to show that musicians are at least notable enough to be included therein.) There is a Find-A-Grave WikiProject, so I think they'll probably end up keeping it, if someone even bothers to start the deletion process. If you do nominate the article for DYK, please cross out the article name on the "Good" articles proposed by bot list. WPOR Collaboration of the Week

[edit]

Greetings WPOR member, we are starting a weekly collaboration project where we will announce two articles that are currently stubs that we hope to work together to improve. No pressure to help, but if you would like to, just stop by one of the articles and see if you can find information to expand the article with, copy edit what is there, help with formatting, or add some images. This week’s articles are: Alis volat propriis and Fusitriton oregonensis. Aboutmovies 22:26, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dig the new collaboration templates

[edit]

Hey Sprkee, I'm diggin' the new templates--thanks for making them. Do you think on the main one you could center the text? I think it looks incomplete with everything over to the left. Or were you planning to add the previous articles to it as well? BTW, I finally wrote a tiny blurb on Eightmile, Oregon. Not much of a going concern, apparently... Katr67 18:25, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that's better. I added a line break too. I had no idea there was an urban legend about Yreka being named after the bakery. I always thought the town came first. One of these days I'll have to find that photo... Katr67 21:48, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WPOR Collaboration of the Week

[edit]

Hello again WikiProject Oregon team members, its time for the next Collaboration of the Week. First a shout out to Sprkee for putting together some templates for this project. Now, in honor of Labor Day weekend and the outdoor nature of the activities that often accompany the three-day weekend, this week’s item is to de-redlink as many parks from the List of Oregon State Parks. Some may even by going to one of these places, a great opportunity to take a picture or two for an article. As always, participation is not required, though it is appreciated. And if you are caught, we will disavow any knowledge of your existence. Since we don’t want to waste any effort through duplication, please make a note on the talk page of which park article you are going to start. Good day! September WPOR Collaboration of the Week

[edit]

First off, great job to all WikiProject Oregon folks for last week’s List of Oregon State Parks work. We pounded out six new state park articles: Sarah Helmick, Bald Peak, Bob Straub, Sumpter Valley Gold Dredge, Tumalo, and Peter Skene Ogden. Plus numerous other edits to improve the existing articles. As a reward, we are introducing the COTW award {{WPOR COTW award}}, and this time it goes to User:Woodstein52 for starting three of the articles.

On to this week. We are back to the usual two Top importance Stubs: Sunstone and Oregon, My Oregon. Both are stub pluses, so it shouldn’t take much to upgrade them both. Again to opt out or suggest future collaborative efforts click here. Good day! Aboutmovies 22:34, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WPOR Collaboration: 09172007

[edit]

All righty WPOR ladies and gentleman, great job last week with our state song and gemstone. I have bumped them up to Start class. I haven’t looked at the contributions, so the COTW award will be later. This week’s articles are Darlene Hooley, by special request, and another Top stub, our very own state rock, the Thunderegg. Yes, apparently we have a state rock and state gemstone. No word on whether there is a state stone too. Hooley basically needs some sources to make it to the next level. Fall WPOR COTW

[edit]

Welcome to autmun and the weekly COTW news. Great job to those who helped out with last week’s articles: Darlene Hooley & Thunderegg. Both made great improvements. This week, something a little different. With fall upon us, the photo ops are going to be harder to get, so we have a photo request fulfillment drive. Take a look at the requested pictures for Oregon category or the graphics subproject for what’s needed. Then go take a picture, or search online for a free picture to upload (US gov sites are great and there are links available from the above links). If you fill a request, be sure to remove the request template from the article’s talk page. Our other item is another red link removal drive, this time on the flagship Oregon article. Like the state parks red link drive, try to coordinate on the talk page. Again to opt out or suggest future collaborative efforts click here. Aboutmovies 01:53, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Week 1 October WP:ORE COTW

[edit]

I know everyone has been waiting anxiously for this week’s COTW, so here they are: Barlow Road and Columbia River Plateau. Both are almost Start class, just some formatting and referencing, plus a little expansion and they will be there!

As to last week, it is difficult to track the items we were working on, but I know some pictures were added and at least three red links were removed from Oregon, so thank you to all those who participated. The award winner will be GoodDamon for their creation of the Oregon Forest Resources Institute article. We have now worked through all the Top class stubs and are into the High class stubs. Again to opt out or suggest future collaborative efforts click here. Happy editing, and remember if you see a downed power line, don’t pick it up. Aboutmovies 20:16, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings WPOR world. Last week was great with the Barlow Road seeing lots of improvement, maybe even B class. Columbia River Plateau also saw some improvement, maybe enough to bump it to Start. On with the countdown, another two Stubs in the High category, both happen to be people: Don Schollander a multi-gold medalist; and then world-renowned bridge architect and all-around swell guy Conde McCullough. Schollander needs sources more than anything, and McCullough needs more of a bio, plus maybe a nice chart for the bridges with type/year/location/length. Hey Esprqii, yeah, I was challenging the fact that N-S is the conventional orientation. Is it? Does it matter? Why is it important to list all the other E-W stadia? Thanks for taking an interest in it. I had been ignoring the article, knowing that rabid Duck fans would be doing unspeakable things to it, but now that you're on the job, I decided it was safe to remove that bit about it being gently tucked, like a blending-into-the-landscape jewel, next to the river. BTW, I think I probably shouldn't have spelled out the names of the schools in full, so feel free to change that back. I noticed they are shortened in the sports articles, so I guess that's OK in context. It bugs me though that they assume that when they say "Idaho", the reader is supposed to know that they are referring to the UI and not the state. You've looked at enough sports articles--is it useless to fight it? Katr67 23:48, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're a platypus?! Should I even be speaking to you? :P We should suggest to AM that one of the COTW be a "Civil War" type article improvement. One Oregon article vs. one Oregon State... Katr67 00:07, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, a platypus..I haven't heard that one. Is that some kind of duck/beaver hybrid that went to both schools? This is a great idea by the way. -Pete 08:30, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It could certainly mean someone who has allegiances to both (there is a platypus trophy that used to be awarded to the Civil War winner but then got lost in a closet at Mac Court and was only recently found), but it's also used for someone who lives in Oregon but is neither duck nor beaver. This allows you to root for whichever team best advances overall state pride. --Esprqii 14:57, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So what do you get when a Duck goes to UW for grad school? Or is that just too unnatural to even think about? Katr67 21:34, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A Huck? A Dusky? Definitely someone likely to vandalize the other school's stadium wiki article. --Esprqii
