Please help me with... learning the correct way to contribute photos. I'm new here and can't wrap my head around the copyright requirements. I've had most of my initial uploads flagged and deleted. I have two types of photos: 1) photos I own and 2) photos owned and provided to me by the subject of my article. He is a public figure. The images depict him in different kinds of media (old newspaper articles, on TV news, in videos) and performing in public places. Thank you!

- "photos owned" - very vague. There are several types of photo.
- Copyright Owned by yourself (1) - that means you held the camera and took the photo. The person pressing the shutter gains the initial copyright. Upload at c:Commons:Upload
- Copyright Owned by yourself (2) - Any other photo, where there is a formal transfer of all copyright, in writing, to yourself. Upload at Upload at c:Commons:Upload, ensure that the photo has {{OTRS pending}} added to the description page, and fill in the form at c:COM:CONSENT
- Photos provided by others. The question is here, does the subject own enough copyright to use here - often unlikely. Pro photographer's will normally allow the subject to use a photo on his web page, etc. They won't license it for re-use, or commercial use - as we require. If you can find the real copyright holder, and they will donate it, then they have to go to c:COM:CONSENT.
- Non-free images. Small non-free images can sometimes be used under the non-free policy WP:NFC. Not easy - and NOT for any living person.
- Hope that makes sense. Ping me for any more fine details. Ronhjones (Talk) 19:02, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
- P.S. No.1 only works if the upload to Wikimedia is it's first exposure to the internet. If it's been uploaded to facebook, twitter, etc., earlier - then it's a massive struggle to use it. easier to take anew picture. Ronhjones (Talk) 19:13, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
