Re: Nominations

I've done some changes to clean it up and bring it into line with the style pages (thank God for Notepad find/replace :D), but I'm afraid I don't know if there's been a centralised discussion about awards sections and articles. If I recall correctly, in most articles nominations are included if the artist has received only a handful of awards and nominations, and excluded if they have received many awards and nominations — I think the latter applies to the RBD article. Also, the case could be made that the nominations could be added to other articles (e.g. on the albums and singles), so the information hasn't been removed from Wikipedia; it's just in a more suitable place. But then, I suppose it could be said that some awards ceremonies are more notable than others — e.g. a Latin Grammy Award nomination may warrant a mention in the artist article more than a "win" at some other awards ceremony.

I'm not familiar with this band, so I'm not completely sure what the best solution is, but I hope that helps! :) Extraordinary Machine 15:33, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

I saw you blocked Zynpes00 for a month. It seems long overdue given his/her general disruptiveness. The next incidence of recidivism should probably warrant an indefinite block. Anyway, just wanted to say I support the block. MastCell Talk 16:42, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, sorry about deleting the ref links. I had assumed that they could be removed once the number ones are verified on the billboard links provided at the bottom of the pages. Thanks for all of your work in maintaining the Modern Rock Tracks chart, by the way.Porce 11:38, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

  • First of all, I wanted to compliment you on your article List of Hot 100 (U.S.) chart achievements and trivia‎; you've done a pretty respectable job, IMO, on providing historical chart data in a meaningful fashion. That said, I have posted a response to your statement about why you removed a contribution of mine, namely songs that hit No. 1 on both the country and Hot 100 charts. You had argued that it was irrelevant, and I rebutted on the article's talk page by saying that hitting No. 1 on both charts (emphasis mine) was an noteworthy accomplishment. That said, it's pretty clear it's not going back in the article, so I wanted to offer a compromise: A separate article for songs that hit the top of both the country and pop charts? The references are there, so all that would be needed is to create the article.
Also, you suggested, in essence, "What about hitting both the top of the Hot 100 and R&B (or, depending on the year, Soul, Black, Urban Contemporary, etc.) charts?" Yes, an article could definitely be created there, as the references are available. Excepting for perhaps adult contemporary, that's probably as far as I'd go since the rest I think are component charts and would create an article of ungodly length. Also, I think it'd be impossible to list all crossover hits (i.e., country songs that charted Hot 100 and vice versa) since the number of songs doing so is countless. Fair use rationale for Image:Sinead Collaborations.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Sinead Collaborations.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:22, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

User: Malcolmo

Hello. PMJI, but I'm struggling with Wiki user Malcolmo for weeks. I called him attention to WP's guidelines on WP:CHARTS but he just continues adding radio and component charts respectively on articles such as "Afrodisiac", "Who Is She 2 U", "Talk About Our Love", "What About Us?" and "Full Moon" - simply ignoring my hints. Can YOU do something??? Thank you, Noboyo —Preceding unsigned comment added by Noboyo (talkcontribs) 19:18, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

    1. Actually, I wanted to refer to the 5FM or J-Wave-Charts he added. - Noboyo —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aussie2 (talkcontribs) 20:30, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
    1. Well, great to hear - 'cuz he really doesn't want to accept that. You might check the history of "Talk About Our Love," for example. Personal Request

Hi, it is my personal request that can you kindly rewrite the article RIAA single certification[1]? The article is horrible incorrect. For Example, Hollaback Girl -7 times platinum and The Sweet Escape 9 time platinum, which is completely wrong. Such improper article can be dealt by you as you have been dealing with Billboard and RIAA articles. Thank You! Luxurious.gaurav 15:56, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello, me again. Could you have a look at recent edits by User:Chastempest to the above article. You will see that he has been in a recent, mini 'edit-war', with me over wording. I believe that he is actually the 'Charles Blackburn' mentioned in the article, so probably COI comes into play. Certainly his comments are unreferenced and partially violate POV. I would prefer not to get involved in a long running argument with him on the article - not least of which because I am no expert on the subject. Incidentally, three weeks ago I left a message on his talk page, but got no reply.

He has also recently edited The The - again partly promoting himself (assuming I am correct) - although the wikilink on his own name is erroneous ?!

Many thanks,

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Blondie Doors Rapture Riders.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Blondie Doors Rapture Riders.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. I noticed that you removed the album cover from the listing. I assume if you know that it is the incorrect cover then you must have seen the correct one. Release Me (and WP:SONGS)

If you want to make it "Release Me (Wilson Philips song)" I won't quibble; "Release Me (song)" is unreasonable because it's hardly the best known song of the title. The 1946 song of that name was, for several different artists and in several different years, a #1 hit.

However, I always use years to disambiguate, and I think the idea of using the artist name as in WP:SONGS was a stupid one, and I've been trying to engage someone in a dialog about this for around 2 years. Obviously, the person who came up with this idea is totally unfamiliar with the way the music business worked in the 1940s and 1950s, because there were lots of songs that were recorded by multiple artists, and even songs which charted in versions by multiple artists. I give as an extreme example the song "Again." Would you title the article "Again (Vic Damone/Doris Day/Tommy Dorsey/Gordon Jenkins/Vera Lynn/Art Mooney/Mel Tormé song)"? Or would you pick one artist and ignore the other 6 who had charting versions? Or have one redirected to from 6 others? Using artist names may make sense with songs of the 1990s and 2000s, but rarely with the older songs with which I'm concerned: "No Other Love (1950 song)" could have been "No Other Love (Jo Stafford song)" but "No Other Love (1953 song)" is not really correctly done as "No Other Love (Perry Como song)" since other versions were made and some are even fairly well known.

I don't know how I can bring this topic up for discussion; I've mentioned it at least twice on talk pages but it seems to be ignored. But I can see no justification for the absolutely stupid policy of using artist names as disambiguators in WP:SONGS. -- BRG 17:24, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

I know of two cases where the songwriter's name was used: "Till the End of Time (Buddy Kaye and Ted Mossman song)" and "Cry (Churchill Kohlman song)." I know in at least the first case I originally created it as "Till the End of Time (1945 song)" and it was moved, but at least the redirect was left. The policy in WP:SONGS never mentions using any other disambiguator but artist names, but in fact I always use years, and most of the time they get left alone. -- BRG 17:54, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Eric, thank you for the Barnstar it was very unexpected and much appreciated.

I should also thank you for the work (and patience) you have put in tidying up my articles after me, it has been appreciated. Quick question

You removed an image from the B5 page saying that the image was non-free. The uploader specified that the image was their own work and released it into the public domain. Now, it sure looks like a publicity photo and may well be non-free, but as it stands it doesn't fit in the non-free criteria. Maybe you should list it in WP:PUI? Until then, I'm going to undo the removal. Thanks and enjoy image patrol! I did it for a while, but after watching Durin get bullied off because of it I decided that I should leave it be for a bit. :) Rockstar (T/C) 19:11, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Jennifer Lopez Discography

You've deleted the info I updated about today's new peak of J.Lo's "Do it well" on the Billboard Hot 100. (#53)

Billboard's webpage will publish the entire top 100 tomorrow, but, as usual, it is already published in lots of forums, and as I'm not writing anything ficitous and none of the other charts positions in the list have any references, I tought it was not necessary to write it down.

Anyway, I think you should check if what I wrote it's true first before feeling free to delete it. Rub rb 23:57, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Rub_rb. 9-27-07.

Oh my God... that's hilarious. The funny thing is that in the "Do it well" page the chart info is updated with the new position (#53) but you didn't go there and remove it but you do it in the discography chart! LOL. Anyway, tomorrow you could see the list on Billboard's site and then you'll have to say sorry. Don't know what kind of forums or blogs you visit, but I've been in these chart forums for years and YES, it's a reliable source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rub rb (talkcontribs) 00:08, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

i spent a while changing the info around for the wanderlust single and you just went and deleted all of it, clever wanker, why do you have to be so stubborn and act like you own the article, there is no evidene that declare independance is the next single anymore, so why change it back —Preceding unsigned comment added by Snowball1988 (talkcontribs) 16:06, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

billboard.biz

Hey Eric, since you seem to be a Billboard fan, I was wondering if you have access to billboard.biz, which requires subscription. I'm asking because there's some conflicting sources regarding the first week sales of Curtis worldwide. Media Traffic says it sold 921,000 but other sources such as Vivendi (which is being questioned) and apparantly billboard.biz say nearly 2 million. Anyway, if you have access to billboard.biz, would you mind verifying if that's true. Cheers. Spellcast 21:52, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Yeah there's just some talk on Talk:Curtis_(50_Cent_album)#Media_Traffic regarding which worldwide sales figure is more accurate—921,000 or 2 million. One user claimed claimed billboard.biz had it at 1.9 million, but it would be good if we could get a screenshot verifying it. Spellcast 22:28, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
