2019

If you have a moment, check out User:Gerda Arendt/Images 2019, for a smile, and sharing (a Nobel Peace Prize), and resolutions. I wanted that for 1 January, but then wasn't sad about having our music pictured instead. Not too late for resolutions, New Year or not. DYK that he probably kept me on Wikipedia, back in 2012? By the line (which brought him to my attention, and earned the first precious in br'erly style) that I added to my editnotice, in fond memory? - Thank you for the above ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:07, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Peterloo

Hi Eric and a Happy New Year to you and yours. It's nice to see you are still looking in here occasionally - your more frequent presence is sadly missed and the gray goo you talk about does indeed seem to be taking many of your old articles without the watchful eyes of you, POD and J3Mrs. On that note, someone recently added something to the Suffrage article to the effect that the film of the Peterloo massacre showed early suffragettes planning their contribution to the protest. As I pointed out they were suffragists not suffragettes as the term wasn't invented until 1906, however, it did get me looking for information about the women at Peterloo and I turned up this academic paper which gives a whole new slant on why the protesters - particularly the women - were so brutally attacked. I do intend to add some of it to the article when I have time. If you have access to jstor it is well worth a read, if not I could scan my copy and email it to you if you're interested. If nothing else it will remind you of those happy days before it all turned sour when we all got together to collaborate on getting that article up to FA status. Thanks, and a Happy New Year to you as well. Whatever you add to the Peterloo article will be tortured out of all recognition by the Women in Red project, but good on you for having a go anyway. I've got jstor access through my university, so I look forward to reading that paper. It's rather sad to see how the GM project has withered away, but I suppose with all the "Manchester mafia" hysteria it was probably inevitable. Eric Corbett 23:35, 13 January 2019 (UTC)

A favour

Given our two teams are meeting this weekend I thought you may be interested in copyediting History of Tottenham Hotspur F.C. which is at FAC at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/History of Tottenham Hotspur F.C./archive1 -I've not done a fitbaw article before at FAC before and Dweller has suggested someone new look at the prose..and if our manager gets pinched at the end-of-season I will be well sad.Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 12:04, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

You’ve presented me with a bit of a dilemma. I can see what Dweller’s getting at and I’d like to help, but I also think that Wikipedia is a dead loss. While I might be able to help you gain a temporary victory it would be short-lived; the usual Wikipedia entropy would inevitably set in and the usual gray goo would be the result. So what’s the point? Eric Corbett 14:07, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
Against my better judgement, I've decided to try and help. I've taken a look at the first few sections, which will perhaps give you an idea of the sort of things that need fixing up. I've got absolutely no intention of getting into any disputes or even discussion about this, but if you want me to continue looking at the rest of the article I will. Well, I also try and write things I like about. If spurs get more fans or various animals I write about get exposure (I was musing on buffing ferret) at some point), then all the better. Fact is, I still enjoy it. If I didn't I wouldn't be here. I am also fascinating by things like prose - how I can look at something and think it is fine, and others find issues. I do like the challenge of becoming a better writer and have been indebted to folks such as you, Tony1, Sasata and others for showing/finding issues in things I have written or buffed. Thanks/much appreciated. Looks all the better for it...aaaaand United won 1-0....Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 20:42, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
I know. Great, isn't it! :-) Eric Corbett 23:36, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
Well, it looks like karma ran over my dogma...as the season has gone arse **** up...sigh Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 18:57, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
Only for Spurs, it's going pretty well for Ole's rejuvenated Manchester United. Eric Corbett 19:02, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
It is pretty amazing - I find the psychology of these events interesting - how bad was Mourinho for morale, did they all hate him that much? What has Ole done that is so good? Still if he does a really really good job they might not try so hard to pinch Pochettino so who knows...Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 21:04, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
