Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Epsomand. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Epsom & Ewell F.C., you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Longhair\talk 12:27, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Website changes

[edit]

Hello. The website you keep adding to the Epsom & Ewell article appears to be a fan site rather than the club's official website, and the latter is what should be linked. Please could you stop changing it. Thanks, Number 57 21:01, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Richard. I'm afraid it doesn't matter how informative the website is; only the club's official website should be linked to in the infobox. It's fine to be used as a reference, and we can add the other site into the 'External links' section at the bottom, but I'm not sure how it should be labelled – how would you describe if not a fan site? If it's your own site, you shouldn't be attempting to add links to it from Wikipedia, as you have a clear WP:Conflict of interest. Number 57 15:29, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I see you restored the old club badge. The badge was recently updated after a request by the club's media manager and is the one used on the official website and social media. I don't know if there's some kind of spat between you and the club (or the media manager) about the website and badge, but if there is, Wikipedia isn't the place to continue it.
