Newbie Pitfalls
{{helpme}} I think I am about to stumble into one of the classic pitfalls of the new editor. I've been watching the page Eddie Lang after seeing someone make 20 edits in a row. I stepped in and reverted a change that removed what seemed to me to be a valid reference. I left the other editor a note on their talk page. Since then it seems that the they are somehow involved with what appears to be a fansite purporting to be an official website for Eddie Lang and are trying to turn the article into a mirror of the fansite. Another editor has also done some reversions on this article. Now, I know nothing about Eddie Lang, I'd never even heard of him before this all started. My concern is simply that the article fit standards. The other user has not responded to either the article's or their own talk page. So here is my question: Am I taking the first steps in an edit war? Do I need to take this article off my watch list and let someone else handle it? Or should I continue to try to engage user talk:Sal Massaro on the talk pages and revert when they cutpaste from the website that, for all I know, they are writing themselves? What would you do? Talk to the user. Don't keep reverting his edits, that will further fuel the edit war. If it continues, ask for a third opinion. Editing Sammy Hagar Page
I attempted to provide concise and correct information in my edits but apparrently it wasn't good enough for some people here and no matter how many times I entered it, it is always UNDONE. This site is hostile to new users and I wish to have my account deleted ASAP as I see no option to delete it myself. RedJeanette
I saw and commented there. Chzz, if I have violated a wikipedia more, please let me know. I'm not patrolling recent changes to drive off new users, and I stand by my original revert and template -- a completely unsourced change to the birth location and birth name of a living person. - Hi, and thanks for taking a look. I don't think that you did anything terribly wrong; I think that an unfortunate sequence of events has frustrated the new user, and I can see why. If they hadn't removed their first comment on you talk page, things might have gone differently; in fact, I think that this is a text-book example, of why Wikipedia can be so frustrating for new users. I am trying to get their edits reinstated, but it is an uphill struggle for me - so I am not surprised that they gave in; it is a great pity, because I am sure they had good intentions. - Actually...there is one part that you did wrong; you should not have undone their edits and reinstated the unreferenced facts. Per WP:BURDEN, you added unreferenced material to the BLP, if you see what I mean - as did the user. Instead, you could have removed the facts, as they were clearly disputed. If you'd done that, and then tried to speak to the user, they might have understood more clearly what was required. Chzz ► 18:38, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Hello! Per your WP:CHU
I had to remove to clean it up, i'm sorry but i had to do that in order to fix the major mess and put my request. --Fail (talk) 03:51, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
- Plus, feel free to put a new request :) --Fail (talk) 03:53, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
