Hi,

I've copied your photo Image:Molonglotele.jpg onto wikimedia commons in the telescope category as there weren't any cylindrical paraboloid radio telescope photos on there. Hope that's ok.

That's cool. Thanks for letting me know. Enochlau 30 June 2005 10:20 (UTC)

Hello. The "article" on Michael Rother on which you stuck a speedy deletion template certainly was wretched, yet it didn't seem to me to warrant speedying. (It wasn't patent nonsense, etc etc.) Thus I pulled the speedy template and replaced it with a VfD template. (I also did a bit of work on the article.) Do please take a look, and comment in the VfD. -- Hoary July 2, 2005 08:43 (UTC)

OK. Much better now, was complete gibberish before. Enochlau 2 July 2005 13:07 (UTC)

Hi. Under Wikipedia:WikiProject Law, we're striving to introduce consistancy to articles relating to the common law, beginning with contract law. I've noticed that there are separate articles on Consideration and Consideration under English law. Based on my experience as an American law student, they are virtually identical, except for the cases cited and a few particulars. Would you object if we were to merge the articles, with a broad main section covering the standard common law elements, and subsections noting specific national nuances? -- BD2412 talk July 7, 2005 02:28 (UTC)

(Replied on user page. Enochlau 7 July 2005 05:17 (UTC))
Thank you, by the way, for all of your work in this area - I think you definitely have the right idea about cleaning up the common law areas and clarifying the U.S./UK/Aus/Can distinctions. -- BD2412 talk 02:52, July 11, 2005 (UTC)
You're welcome. :) Enochlau 02:54, 11 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think invitation to treat should be moved to invitation to bargain - I've never heard of the former term, and the article seems to describe the latter. Is this simply a cultural difference? -- BD2412 talk 02:56, July 11, 2005 (UTC)

(Replied on user page. Enochlau 03:02, 11 July 2005 (UTC))[reply]
The current name handily wins the google test. Black's Law Dictionary uses "invitation to negotiate", but that also gets fewer Google hits. I shall redirect both to Invitation to treat. Cheers! -- BD2412 talk 03:16, July 11, 2005 (UTC)

Usyd

[edit]

I think it is more likely that Usyd once had a seat on the Legislative Council. The Assembly has always been elected, whereas the Council has in the past been filled by appointments. Which was probably a better way considering these days people like Fred Nile are perpetually re-elected due to the LC's absurdly low quota. Kewpid 03:03, 12 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm I think I read somewhere that usyd was once considered an electorate, and people voted for their representative, so that's not altogether inconsistent with being on the assembly. Enochlau 11:36, 12 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Bah you are right. I will add something about it --Kewpid 09:37, 13 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

concerned about adding suburbs that don't exist

[edit]

Hi Enochlau, Where are you getting your Sydney suburb data from? I'm a bit concerned about some additions of suburbs that don't exist, such as Ashfield North, New South Wales, Ashfield South, New South Wales, etc. I've lived right next to Ashfield for the past 9 years, and have never heard of these places. The Ashfield municipal council may have internal administrative regions set up to cover these areas, but that does not make them suburbs. The Geographical Names Board of New South Wales has a name search which can be used to independently verify which suburbs exist, and which do not. Basically, the List of Sydney suburbs should now be fairly complete and definitive (errors and omissions can happen of course, but I'd venture to say it's now > 95% accurate), so if something is not on that list it's most probably not a suburb. I've put the Ashfield North/South suburb articles up for speedy deletion, and have tried to update the LGA articles I'm watching to remove things that aren't suburbs. -- All the best, Nickj (t) 05:29, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Also listed the following for speedy deletion: Burnside, New South Wales, Cattai North, New South Wales, West Baulkham Hills, New South Wales - as they aren't listed as suburbs / localities / neighbourhoods by the GNB, nor are they listed in my ageing copy of the UBD. However many of your other additions have caught missing localities and neighbourhoods, and the list of Sydney suburbs has been updated to include those. -- All the best, Nickj (t) 08:23, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
(Replied on user page. Enochlau 10:47, 11 September 2005 (UTC))[reply]

Length alone is a very crude and easy criterium for a stub notice, and avoids the need to think about the content. How exactly would you expand this article without just copying and repeating information back from the individual species accounts or the family account Glareolidae?

I don't want to get into an edit war on this, so I'll leave the notice for now, but may revert in future if no better reason given (same applies if Glareolidae is stubbed. jimfbleak 08:34, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

(Replied on user page. Enochlau 08:49, 18 September 2005 (UTC))[reply]
Thanks for your very reasonable reply - I'll take another look soon and see if there is any think that could reasonably added that is not covered by the Glareolidae and species accounts, but you will appreciate that this article is somewhat squeezed from above and below. I always put species lists in the text, but some people prefer them in the taxobox and move them; life's too short to challenge everything... Jim

These ones?

At Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Marine da nang, you asked if someone could "edit out the blotches on the top left and top right of the image". Just to confirm, did you mean these blotches, or something else? There are a lot of little artifacts visible when the image is blown up, and I want to make sure I get the ones you meant specifically. :) —Cryptic (talk) 12:28, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Question for you.

[edit]

Enochlau, I wanted to drop you a line to ask if you'd be interested in voting on my admin candidacy. I've seen you a lot in voting on FP's and thought you might have a somewhat good or positive idea of me and what kind of work I do. I might have been wrong about the whole featured diagrams issue that came up, but figured you might still have a good view of my contributing otherwise. I'm kind of having a personal tiff with a certain user right now and would appreciate your vote if you feel i'm qualified enough. I also answered the usual questions at the bottom of my nomination form you can read if interested. I'd jut like to get the change to make wikipedia even better and I think this would allow me to do so. Just thoguht I'd see if you'd help me out with it. Thanks and I'll see you around the FP's I'm sure. --ScottyBoy900Q 23:33, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Just saying hi

[edit]

I randomly surfed to your user page, so I wanted to say hi to a fellow wikipedian and University of Sydney Computer Science student. So hi!

I love these desperate HSC students, looking at your myriad collection of online notes and saying "they're great gimme more". I've been getting that for a while, so don't worry it won't stop (especially if they're listed somewhere exciting like boredofstudies, which—being derived from a resources web site I made for more ideological reasons of helping people who had teachers with no clue—still includes my notes from 2001). My usual response is: sorry that's all I've got, but don't rely on other peoples' notes.

Ciao. --jnothman talk 15:34, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I reinserted the template after someone (was it you?) deleted it. Thank you for your comments there. If you don't mind me asking, what made you change your mind? After Radiant and Heptor withdrew their objections, I was suprised to seem somebody following in the opposite direction.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 14:56, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As Piotr continues to spam talk pages of other editors blatantly advertizing Halibutt's vote I dare say that I regret not having reviewed Halibutt's contributions earlier. I finally started this by reading Talk:Kiev Offensive (1920), in which I was amazed to learn about copyright violations on his part, and Talk:Battle of Wołodarka, in which Halibutt indulged in regularly deleting his opponent's comments, despite the latter's vocal remonstrances to the contrary (see history). As these issues are hardly a month old, I believe further scanning of his contributions would have been instructive, although I don't have enough time for this at the moment. Rudeness, obstinacy, revert warring, block for 3RR violation, deleting opponents' comments on talk, and now copyright issues - what a nice combination for a soon-to-be admin. --Ghirlandajo 00:45, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
(Replied on RfA page. Enochlau 02:11, 19 November 2005 (UTC))[reply]
Jesus Christ... We have a proverb in Polish which says that It's hard to prove that you're not a camel. But some of the accusations by Ghirlandajo are actually easily explainable. For instance, the copyvio on my side mentioned by him above was actually there before I made the first edit to that article. After it had been discovered, I notified the user who put it there and it was instantly removed. So, no copyvio on my side... But still, watching every page Ghirlandajo leaves his comments would take me too much time and efforts. Halibutt 02:28, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
So a copyvio by admin Piotrus?.. It's getting curioser and curioser... --Ghirlandajo 18:25, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. WikiThanks.
Thanks. WikiThanks.
I would like to express my thanks to all the people who took part in my (failed) RfA voting. I was both surprised and delighted about the amount of support votes and all the kind words! I was also surprised by the amount of people who stated clearly that they do care, be it by voting in for or against my candidacy. That's what Wiki community is about and I'm really pleased to see that it works.
As my RfA voting failed with 71% support, I don't plan to reapply for adminship any more. However, I hope I might still be of some help to the community. Cheers! Halibutt 05:10, 29 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I did chemistry - I took a year off from Law to do Honours (Physical/Theoretical Chem) - a pretty tough year but well worth it. After that, I had the choice to go back to law - which I liked but it wasn't really what I was into - or continue on with some science studies. So I "deferred" law after 2000 and have never gone back! Its something that I wish I had completed, but I dont think I want to and I dont regret it - it would have been 6 years at the same uni and thats a tough slog! I ended up spending the next year at ANU doing Science Communication and then working here at DSTO. But if you can get thru it, that's pretty cool. I occassionally see some law courses that look pretty interesting - I'd be keen to do some international law - could be relevant for work. They used to run "Cricket and the law" - if they were still running that when I got to 4th year, I might have stayed on! (Westius 03:16, 28 November 2005 (UTC))[reply]
