Choosing an article
[edit]I looked over the options you listed on User:Emilyvhuang/Choose an Article and honestly, I don't you can really go wrong with any of them. Edith Taylor Langster has the most room to grow since it's basically only a sentence now but I think the article on ballade (classical music) is going to have just a ton of references you can build from and the article, in its current form, is a bit sprawling and undersourced. A couple of the other articles (like Chinachem might be harder both because of the challenge of finding good English language sourcing (not essentially but certainly good) and because writing about companies is just harder (see WP:ORG). Whatever way you want to go seems good to me! —mako๛ 23:05, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

Peer Review - Ruinan Wang
[edit]Hi Emily, I love your edits! It's my pleasure to write peer review for your article and this is the first time for me to get to know the musical form of ballade. The content you added is very professional and I can see that you have done a lot of work. At the same time, your edits made the topic of the article clearer. Good job! Here are some of my suggestions:
- Lead
1. Instead of detailed info like, "This type of work made its first appearance with Chopin's Ballade No. 1 in G minor, Op. 23 of 1831–35, closely followed by Clara Schumann's Soirées musicales Op. 6," you might briefly introduce the sections, such as mentioning Collaborative piano ballades and Instrumental ballades. A concise summary of the ballade’s development would also be a good idea.
2. The topic is Ballade, which includes not only Piano Ballade but also Vocal Ballade. Since composers like Chopin transformed it into a distinct piano form, some information might be slightly imprecise, so you could add this distinction or introduce a "History" section later.
2. Content - The sections on Collaborative piano ballades and Instrumental ballades seem unbalanced; the former is quite brief, while the latter lists many examples. You might consolidate these examples into a new Examples of piano ballades section.
- Sources and References Guiding questions:
1. In the Form section: “However, that claim does not acknowledge the fact that in 1841, 13 years earlier than Brahms, Robert Schumann acknowledged in the Neue Zeitschrift für Musik (pp. 141–142) that Chopin told him he was inspired by Mickiewicz’s poems.” This sentence lacks a cited source.
2. In the Instrumental ballades section, the opening line, "In the 19th century, the title was given by Frédéric Chopin to four important, large-scale piano pieces...," also needs a reliable source.
- Organization:
1. It might make sense to place the Form section before Romantic ballades to enhance logical flow and cohesion.
- Overall impressions:
1. The added content enriches the article, especially the Form section, which provides valuable insights.
2. For the Collaborative piano ballades and Instrumental ballades sections, trimming redundant information and adding a concise historical overview would improve readability and educational value. Ruinan Wang (talk) 19:07, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
I've looked over your edits to Ballade (classical music) and I think they are great! Maybe swing back and try to improve/edit the lead since your edits now have mostly been in the form of adding new sections and text? —mako๛ 01:34, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
