Ear Training

[edit]

Hi! You're right-- I do agree with your changes. I wasn't aiming to undo what you were after-- far from it-- I figured to strip off the excess verbiage (and opinion) to get at the meat of what you were saying. aruffo (talk) 02:08, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sight Singing

[edit]

I plan to address the Article on sight-reading, to which sight-singing redirects. It is in need IMO of significant clarification. In particular, sight-singing is not the same as "sight-playing" as suggested, because it is possible for someone to execute notes on an instrument without knowing beforehand how they are to sound. Sight-Singing (i.e. with the voice) is a skill to be deveolped by all musicians, if they are able, despite whether they play an instrument or are a vocalist. The skill involved is actually _prior_ to the execution, and involves visual recongnition exactly analogous to reading text and "hearing it in your head" whether you recite it outloud or not.Emdelrio (talk) 03:18, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question on photograph(s)

[edit]

{{helpme}} (1.) I have a scanned photograph of a deceased concert pianist (sent to me by her surviving neice) that was taken in Pre-Castro Cuba, c. 1930's. The entity that took it was obviously disolved with the arrival of communism. Is this something that can be posted in the article on her? (2.) Also, I have the scan of a privately-taken photograph of same pianist, taken in her home prior to a concert and later used in a program without any credit/citation. This scan was also provided to me by her neice. Can that be used in her article? Emdelrio (talk) 23:14, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the experts on this subject tend to hang out at WP:MCQ. If you head over there and explain your situations, someone should be able to help you. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:35, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For the first image, I would think that it is in the public domain (per {{PD-Cuba}}), and thus usable on Wikipedia. For the second, I would still imagine that the original photographer was the copyright holder, or that the program publisher was given the rights. What date was that photo taken, and where was it first published? /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 23:39, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
