I am back!
Hey, I am just travelling back from holiday (why I'm using dodgy ferry IP) can we continue from where we left off? Thanks Thєíríshwαrdєn - írísh αnd prσud 07:42, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

The Lollo article looks good. Like I said, there really isn't much to work with. AutomaticStrikeout 01:26, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Just no. Facts all come with points of view. - Talking Heads, Cross-eyed And Painless. Wait a bit, sure... See how much you miss Wikipedia. :) But I fully expect you back! Theopolisme TALK 14:28, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks! After many email, I've decided to come back, but not now. Dave (WTT) has offered to be my mentor. Also, I put myself as inactive on the status page. Best, Electric Catfish 14:30, 3 August 2012 (UTC).
- Hey Catfish, why you took it so serious? Well, i dunno, but if i'm still here after an unsuccessful RFA (and up and running) i think you can do the same. ANI reports don't damage your reputation (unless you have violated the policies, of course). You just did what you felt was right, although some considered it over-reacting. I hope you won't leave and say editin here. WP is a rough place, yes, but if you know how to handle it, it can be an amazing journey. —Hahc21 14:37, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've spoken to Dave (Worm) over email and he's convinced me to stay and offered to be my mentor. I was proud that you didn't retire after your rough RFA. Electric Catfish 14:41, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

Don't let it bug you.
Don't let an overblown report at ANI, that should have been handled elsewhere, drive you away. Seriously. It can be maddening, but just take a day off and try to overlook it if you can. Dennis Brown - 2¢ © Join WER 13:03, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

See You Soon
Hello My Friend,
Being in the cross hairs at ANI really sucks, but I hope that you have learned from your experience and will use it to the good. Remember that you are a really great editor, and we want and NEED you to stick around. Take as much time as you need. Come back refreshed and ready to do all the great stuff you've been doing, PLEASE! Thank you very, very much for the good work you've done and for the good work you will do in the future. Cheers, Ebikeguy (talk) 18:08, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
You'll be welcome when you return
You've been very helpful on the Wikipedia project and will continue to be when you come back. --Jprg1966 (talk) 18:11, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

We shouldn't allow incidents affect our editing and time here. I understand how stressful incidents can be, I experienced stress during my RfA. At times, taking a wikibreak may help clear our mind. Regardless if you want to return again or not, I wish you well. SwisterTwister talk 03:07, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
- That's nothing compared to the stress you'll get if you do one day become an admin ;) Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 03:16, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
- Rather then start yet another thread, I'll just piggy back on the last one that is currently open. :) I agree with the many users above that you should not let the ANI thread kill your hobby. We have all had our @#$@ moments at one time or another here (even if only internally expressed) Instead take on board the constructive points that were raised, maybe take with a grain of salt those that might have seemed a bit harsh but valid. Maybe take some time off as you suggested you might. Sometimes a few days away can put this place into a more liberating perspective. At the end of the day day it is just a website. An important and professional website, but not a place that should be causing you to feel distraught. Take care EC and I hope to collaborate with you again in the not too distant future :) Kindly Calmer Waters 04:41, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
The Tea Leaf - Issue Five
Hi! Welcome to the fifth edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!
- Guest activity increased in July. Questions are up from an average of 36 per week in June to 43 per week in July, and guest profile creation has also increased. This is likely a result of the automatic invite experiments we started near the end of month, which seeks to lessen the burden on hosts and other volunteer who manually invite editors. During the last week of July, questions doubled in the Teahouse! (But don't let that deter you from inviting editors to the Teahouse, please, there are still lots of new editors who haven't found Teahouse yet.)
- More Teahouse hosts than ever. We had 12 new hosts sign up to participate at the Teahouse! We now have 35 hosts volunteering at the Teahouse. Feel free to stop by and see them all here.
- Phase two update: Host sprint. In August, the Teahouse team plans to improve the host experience by developing a simpler new-host creation process, a better way of surfacing active hosts, and a host lounge renovation. Take a look at the plan and weigh in here.
- New Teahouse guest barnstar is awarded to first recipient: Charlie Inks. Using the Teahouse barnstar designed by Heatherawalls, hosts hajatvrc and Ryan Vesey created the new Teahouse Guest Barnstar. The first recipient is Charlie Inks, for her boldness in asking questions at the Teahouse. Check out the award in action here.
- Teahouse was a hot topic at Wikimania! The Teahouse was a hot topic at Wikimania this past month, where editor retention and interface design was heavily discussed. Sarah and Jonathan presented the Teahouse during the Wikimedia Fellowships panel. Slides can be viewed here. A lunch was also held at Wikimania for Teahouse hosts.
As always, thanks for supporting the Teahouse project! Stop by and visit us today!

Retired
Catfish, you are very much needed here, Your Enormous contributions are well appreciated. The thread at ANI is discussing the prevalence of such incidents in general. Please do not get offended, some editors were concerned about it, hence the discussion, Hope you will reconsider your decision. regards --DBigXray 12:25, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- Dude: toughen up. The world is a rough place, and so is this wiki. Stick to your guns when you feel you're right: don't run away from the situation. Doc talk 12:41, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
The thing you should have done is to accept the (rather constructive) criticism by the other editors and use that to make the necessary adjustments and improve. Sometimes, the best way to improve yourself is by making mistakes. --MuZemike 13:13, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
Guys, thanks. You guys have all been here for much longer than I have. However, Wikipedia is was my hobby. I had only good intentions and I feel as if the ANI report is smashing all of the work I've done here to pieces. Electric Catfish 13:24, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- You feel that way, sure. But I understand (see below) that it should not have happened there to start with. Your work stays even if you leave. Please consider to stay also. - I was close to leaving a year ago, I know the feeling. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:31, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, I really appreciate it. Yes, I'll return in a few months when this all gets cleared up. Best, Electric Catfish 13:33, 3 August 2012 (UTC).
- A few months? Will it really take you that long to get over it? It's cleared up. Get on with what you were doing before this. That's a non-admin order! Doc talk 13:37, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- I'm very upset that other editors perceived my good-faith actions as "malicious". Also, there's no policy that says that non-admins can't do what I'm doing. I think that an RFC on this issue would be great. Best, Electric Catfish 13:40, 3 August 2012 (UTC).
- No one in that thread used the word "malicious". You are overreacting by retiring for a few months, but you seem to have already decided what your plan is. Good luck. Doc talk 13:45, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
Hey, Electriccatfish2. I am very sorry that you have put up a "retired" banner over this affair. Please accept my apologies if any of my remarks were too harsh. -- Dianna (talk) 15:27, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
- Allow me to add myself to the chorus of editors wishing for your return. Someguy1221 (talk) 01:47, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
- Same here, Electriccatfish2, you don't need to leave over an AN/I report. The best thing to do, as I'm sure others will agree, is to use it as a learning experience to make yourself a better editor. Acalamari 17:01, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
Just to let you know that (1) I appreciated your message re Savannah Metro Police Dept., and hopefully we can develop an article on the lines of the excellent Charleston, West Virginia Police article, and (2) I hope you agree to stay with WP; Wikipedia can be frustrating -- petty insults, admin honchos strutting their stuff, etc. -- but that's to be expected in a big, bureaucratic monster like WP. Hope you will stay for a while.Mason.Jones (talk) 18:04, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
your RfA guidelines
I was looking at your userpage and saw your RfA guidelines and I thought they were quite high. I was quite surprised at "...at least 10 Non-Administrative Closures." I kinda thought that the rest doesn't support any would-be that just wants to focus on one area, which is still a help. I'm curious. Why is your bar where it is? Mysterytrey talk 21:16, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- You're right, they are quite high, but I meet all of them myself. I'll remove it, though. Electric Catfish 22:40, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- Do you still require them (the certain areas:50 AIV reports;AFDs; also 10 articles isn't much but if someone is only interesed in 1 thing then...). It really is kinda limiting to only those that edit widespread and diversified. So, why did you have them? (I'm being openminded here.) Also, since you brought up you meeting all of them, any chance of a WP:RfA/Electriccatfish2? I'd support. Mysterytrey talk 23:28, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hi! No, I don't require them and I don't have the time to check for each one, although 5,000 edits and 8 months was always my standard. Also, yes, I am having my RFA in January and people have all sorts of checklists that are much more stringent than mine. I personally mainly do anti-vandalism and new page patrolling work, although I do contribute to AFDs and content creation. Best, Electric Catfish 00:39, 24 July 2012 (UTC).
- Couldn't help but comment: Great to know about your planned RfA. I for one would definitely support :) Anir1uph | talk | contrib 13:54, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Did you know?
I just changed a redirect into an article, Yadkin-Pee Dee river basin, and there was one fact that I thought might be interesting and I finally sourced it (the other articles that mention it don't source it but I will fix that tomorrow). "Pilot Mountain was original inspiration for "Mount Pilot" in the 1960s television show The Andy Griffith Show" Since Andy Griffith died recently, and I just recreated the article today, I thought I would mention it to someone familiar with DYK to see if it was worth considering. I've only had one DYK before, back in 08, for Pigs in the City. Drop me a note if you have the time and let me know if you think this is interesting enough. Thanks! Dennis Brown - 2¢ © Join WER 01:22, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- It seems interesting to me, but I don't have any experience in DYK's. Electric Catfish 11:28, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) DYK check gives it as 8 characters under the limit, but other than that, you should go for it. It would make a nice break from all the olympic hooks we have at the moment.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 11:35, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- Ah, I picked your name up as a contact on the front page of WP:DYK as being "actively involved". And thanks Gilderien, I was intending to add some on the geography section today as well. Dennis Brown - 2¢ © Join WER 11:39, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

- I've reviewed a few submissions, but I don't have any of my own :(. Electric Catfish 12:13, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- Next time you create a new article, drop me a line, and I'll be happy to collaborate getting it up to DYK.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 12:17, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- I have added more, cleaned up the disambigs, no red links, added a nice image of Pilot Mnt. I would love it if someone else nom'ed it for DYK, I think the fact is rather interesting myself, as most people aren't aware that that many of the cities and towns in the TV show were based on real towns in this area "Mayberry" = Mount Airy, North Carolina (fun small town to visit, I bring visiting relatives there), Greensboro, North Carolina, etc. I've lived here 20 years now, it is an interesting place, culturally. - The purely Pilot Mountain fact might be a little tangential...what about.."...that several features within the Yadkin-Pee Dee River Basin were used as inspiration for locations in the 1960s sitcom The Andy Griffith Show?"--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 16:43, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'm making some more edits to it, and, if you like the hook, will nom it later.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 16:58, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'll help out, too! Electric Catfish 20:41, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- Like I said on my page, I'm easy. I moved to this area 20 years ago, and there are only a couple people working on articles here (out of more than a few million residents, sadly). I might have to work on some other geology related articles next. I stay so busy with other projects, I don't get to edit as much as I would like. Hi. I declined to block this person for spamming. Normally we required the person to have received and ignored 4 or 5 warnings before we block. Obviously if they've used other accounts, then we count those warnings to.
Personally, as an admin who's done a lot of spam cleanup in the past, I prefer to not block spammers -- it's easier to track their behavior and spam domains if you don't force them to move to a new sockpuppet account. I find that blacklisting their domains is much more effective. (Note that we also give them multiple warnings before blacklisting). Blacklisting is potentially devastating to their domain since there are indications the search engines sometimes look at our blacklist when deciding whether to blacklist them in search engine results.
I encourage you to check out Wikiproject Spam and report spammers and their domains to the project's talk page using the templates there.
I also recommend you warn spammers on their talk pages and use the special domain-tracking templates Wikiproject Spam uses -- it helps tracking. See what I've done on the editor's talk page.
Most importantly -- thanks so much for looking out for spam! I hope you'll keep at it.

- Hi! I've reported about 25 spammers. They all trip filters and apparently, spambots don't need to be warned. They usually also end up being open proxies. I deal more with anti-vandalism than spam, but if I see it, I'll report it. Best, Electric Catfish 11:53, 30 July 2012 (UTC).
Welcome to the Teahouse!
Hi KeilanaElectriccatfish! Thank you for signing up to be a future host at the Teahouse. Well, great news - the future is here: we'd love you to be a Teahouse host! Teahouse hosts do more than just answer questions. A few things we'd love to see you do as a Teahouse host:
- First, declare your Hostness! Add yourself to the Host page! This page is where new editors and your fellow hosts can learn about you and get in touch with you easily if needed. By signing up here you declare that you know how to serve up a great cup of tea. Add yourself here.
- Invite new users with our invite guide. Please invite new users to the Teahouse! At that guide you'll find some tips on how to invite. It's super important; we have plenty of Wikipedians answering questions, but not enough asking the questions!
- Visit the tips page. The tips page provides you some basic tips on how to engage with visitors at the Teahouse. We have a special way of doing things - unlike other areas of Wikipedia! (Such as greeting new editors with a simple "Hi!" and being as easy to understand and friendly as possible.)
- Join the conversation by participating on the host lounge talk pages. We also have an IRC channel now for hosts to get to know one another, develop your skills, and eventually the channel will serve as an additional help space for new editors!
- To visit the IRC channel: #wikipedia-teahouse connect (Feel free to ask me for help if you're having trouble connecting!)
- Participate in developing the Teahouse further by getting involved in phase two. Learn more here.
I'm so happy that you volunteered to lend a hand at the Teahouse. I look forward to following your contributions and invitations, and your assistance in making the Teahouse a great and warm place for new Wikipedians. See you there :) SarahStierch (talk) 20:57, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Would you be willing to help me with this NPP backlog? A month ago, there was a large amount of new articles and I couldn't review all of them. Articles older than a month won't appear and I've been targeting unreviewed articles and users who haven't been welcomed yet. If you can at least help me get to a week ahead, I'd appreciate it. I see that my question has become very popular, as other users have asked it either :) Well i learned about the creative commons copyrights not much time ago: Images must allow commercial use and derivative works to be eligible for Commons. So licenses lyke cc-by-2.0 and cc-by-nc-2.0 are not free enough to be uploaded, as De728631 wrote on his answer (which is completely right). I would refer you to this: Commons:Licensing for more info about the copyright of media. —Hahc21 02:07, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
- It's an interesting question Hahc. I've asked it on my adoption course for a year or so, and I think I've had a total of 2 (out of about 30) people get it right. It's a mean mean question (which is great for an RfA). Catfish, you may want to have a look at User:Worm That Turned/Adopt/Copyright which helps a bit on copyright in general. You just rejected my article after another editor reviewed it, seemingly approved it and asked me to resubmit. See notes below from Txcrossbow. Hello, James. I will take a look at it this weekend and run the references, etc. I admire your tenacity! After I review the article again, I will let you know so that you can either re-submit or make changes. Txcrossbow (talk) 15:36, 20 July 2012 (UTC) Please re-submit. Be patient on the review as there is a heavy backlog right now. Txcrossbow (talk) 06:14, 21 July 2012 (UTC) I will repeat the name note that I left for Stella...IF YOU HAVE GUIDELINES AND RULES, IT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO FOLLOW THEM. I'm wondering how I can remedy the following issue and get my first article published. Thank you very much for your help! "What you can do: Add citations (see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners) to secondary reliable sources that are entirely independent of the subject."
I've added two links to the New York Times (both of which are articles where the company is the subject of the article) plus links to Bloomberg and four links to Reuters. These are all very reliable, national, secondary sources and entirely independent from the subject. This bank is the largest Aerospace and Defense boutique investment bank in the world and is certainly notable to a lot of people. Based on the criteria here (http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:CORP), I provide the following arguments for notability.
1. Depth of Coverage- The New York Times, Wall St. Journal, Bloomberg, Reuters, the Washington Post and numerous others certainly feel that the company is notable. They have written significant articles on the company recently both on-line and in print publications. 2. Audience - these publications are national publications. 3. Interdependence of Sources- none of the cited sources (exception press release) have any relation to the company. Thank you very much for your time. http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Stone_Key_Partners — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamesr1978 (talk • contribs) 19:19, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
This is James again- you asked me to resubmit, which I did. Then someone else reviewed and declined. This is sort of getting ridiculous. Do I get a new reviewer ever time? How is that possibly helpful / efficient? Do I just resubmit until I find someone that agrees that an organization that is the topic of articles in the NY Times, Wall St Journal, Reuters, Bloomberg, etc. is notable. This seems arbitrary and illogical. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamesr1978 (talk • contribs) 18:32, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hi! First of all, the article seems good now. Please re-submit it and than ping me and than I will accept it. Also, it depends. You will usually, but not always get a different reviewer. There are about 100 or so of us, and we are all experienced Wikipedia editors. Electric Catfish 20:03, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Hello Electric Catfish. Thank you for your help! I do not see the button to resubmit the article like I did the first two times. Re: Retirement
First of all, I would like to thank everyone for the words of support and encouragement I have received over these few days. I see that I am wanted here and heave decided to return. I'm going to thank everyone who posted a message about my retirement personally this week, but I would like to begin by expressing my thanks for all of your support. Also, one of the points that was brought up at AN/I was that I disregarded warnings. I big to differ. JBW's note was politely written about not using the (Non-administrator comment) template at AIV to identify myself as a non-admin. Ponyo's comment was about using templates to show that I agree with the report. I have acknowledges both comments. Also, I hope to continue contributing to AN/I, UAA, and AIV by making helpful comments, such as pointing out that a s user has not been warned, but I do not intend on making decisions, such as removing reports. Also, I would like to point out to everyone that non-admins are allowed to help out in WP: PERM/C, and I do that myself. Lastly, I would like to thank Worm That Turned for offering to mentor me and I hope that I will be welcomed back into the community of Wikipedia. I look forward to collaborating with you all in the future, and wish you all of the best. Electric Catfish 22:59, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

So what's the next move? ⃝● Guðsþegn 03:45, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
I think the reason why a lot of people are taking the article as a hoax is because, since there is absolutely zilch about the game, why would anybody know about the plot information? Because the plot is virtually madeup, the entire game likely also is.
Not that it matters, though, as it's a snowball delete. --MuZemike 05:08, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
- Why did you decline the speedy tag, because aren't speedies meant to be faster if the material is blatantly a hoax? If something is at AfD but a Speedy also applies, the speedy is better as it is faster to be deleted. Thanks CyanGardevoir (used EDIT!) 05:59, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
- @Mike: Thanks for deleting it. When I googled the title, I saw a video game forum from an unreliable source asking people what they would like that game to feature. I assumed that it was coming out at some point, but since that was the only source, I voted delete. However, the fake plot summary made me a bit skeptical.
- @Cyan: It's not a good idea to tag an article for deletion (either a PROD or a CSD) when it's at AFD. Therefore, I contested your tags.
Best, Electric Catfish 20:27, 8 August 2012 (UTC).
If an article is clearly identified as fitting a CSD criterion, it can be tagged even during an AfD, and deleted. There are 1,000s of AfDs closed as 'already deleted' per CSD'. There is no point in wasting further time at the AfD. That said, anyone CSD tagging an article during an AfD needs to be very sure of deletion policies. In the case of Mario Party 10, the article could have been based on this, though while speculation, does'nt mean it's necessarily a bad faith hoax. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 05:13, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Please note this change I made. Tripping a long-term pattern filter does not mean that this particular editor has vandalised before, it merely means their edit matches a pattern that has been previously used for vandalism. Black Kite (talk) 22:59, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi!
I need your help please and some explanation - what exactly is nt right? if it is about the style I need help becaseu I don´t know what else to change; if it is about the links - I´ve explained before that there are no secondary sources yet because it is a new project; all of the participating artists are well respected and well known in norhtern and central Europe; Caligola as music project has achieved a lot of things already. The newpapers I´ve named - Kurier, Finanzblatt, Weser Kurier, are big newpapers and known for their quality, laut.de and fanlexikon for instance are well respected internet magazines. There are no sources in English because most of the activity is in german and swedish speaking countries. Please tell me what exactly is done wrong so I can improve it, I honestly don´t know what else to change. The article is a translation of the german published one: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caligola_(Musikprojekt) Thanks a lot in advance for your help :-) Andrea Schweinberger (talk) 21:40, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

PERM
Hi EC. I see you are still making comments and/or non admin closures at PERM. Although there is no strict rule against this, there really is no need for it and that's why we don't have clerks there; there are no backlogs, and it just doubles the work - admins still need to make the checks and the decision. Some editors believe this kind of work is necessary to add credence to a future RfA, but many experienced editors will see it as over-enthusiasm. Keep up the good work at CVU & NPP - and do continue to ask me if you need any advice on anything. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 03:15, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi Electric Catfish. You undid an edition I did yesterday to the Enterprise resource planning page (http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Enterprise_resource_planning&action=history). I don't have a lot of experience with the Wikipedia, but it seems like the warning was automatically generated. I removed a wrong addition (the same section repeated several times). The change was again included by Kuru.
I don't know if there is a way to remove this vandalism stain in my profile :-).

Misha B
Sorry to bother you, but I need help and thought as you inputted in the original DRN you might be interested.
I have requested the re-opening the Dispute Resolution mechanism for the Misha B article @ Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Archive 38 as the debate about neutrality has really flared up. on User talk:Steven Zhang who closed the original Dispute Resolution based on my suggestion...no one else in the dispute contributed.
or should I go to formal mediation?
I make no pretence that I am a fan, I guess the majority articles about (living) people are started and mainly contributed by those who are 'fans', but my contibutions have been done in good faith regards neutrality (as a newbie I have made mistakes...like not spotting blogs) I always take personal criticism and attacks maybe too seriously but I have said I welcome genuine verifiable editing contributions from others, even when they remove my contributions, which can be seen from page history.
DRN
Why does the Misha article read like a magazine article?
Too much information and way too biased

NPP
You reviewed Foundation for the Development of Caribbean Children at NPP, but did not notice that it was a complete copyvio from the organizations web sit, and should have been nominated for speedy deletion.
Catching this sort of thing is a critical responsibility at NPP -- almost as important as catching vandalism and libel. Any apparently well-written article about an organization or person who is likely to have a web site needs to be checked against it--and it's even easier, when it is listed at the bottom of the article.
Please remember. We are counting on you. DGG ( talk ) 00:41, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hi! Sorry to let you down here. I usually use Twinkle and manually Google articles to see if they are copyvios. I tried out the New Page Triage tool today and it informed me of certain issues in articles, so I assumed that it would also detect copyvios. I see that I was wrong and I have to manually detect if it is a copyvio. Anyways, I'll keep this in mind in the future and thank you for letting me know about it. Best, Electric [[User talk: ::I've been using the new page also, even though it is still very incomplete--but even when it does incorporate a search for copyvio it almost certainly will not search the inside pages of a site, and often neither does google. You'll get the feel for what is likely to be wrong as you gain experience. I think of it as developing a "nose" for what doesn't smell right. (and what I'm mainly doing with NP Triage is looking at things that were approved and don't seem quite right to me--it's a lot faster for that than the old NPP) DGG ( talk ) 01:32, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks! I've done over 450 CSD's, with only 4 declined. I prefer Twinkle over the new system, too. Electric Catfish 01:34, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
Necessary?
Was this really necessary two days after the issue was resolved? -- Mrmatiko (talk) 06:12, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- It was, as in the event that the edit warring persisted, I would need the diff of an edit warring notice as part of a AN/EW report. Electric Catfish 12:13, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- The problem is that the edit warring couldn't have persisted. They stopped edit warring two days ago and the issue was fixed a few hours later by the addition of some references. Adding a warning so long after the event is an unnecessary re-escalation of a solved dispute, and could easily backfire by provoking User:Ahnoneemoos to become deliberately disruptive in retaliation. This is a much more serious consequence than being denied the ability to further escalate the dispute through administrative noticeboards. -- Mrmatiko (talk) 13:04, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hey Catfish. Just a quick note to say that I agree with Mrmatiko. The purpose of the diff on the EW report is that someone has tried to stop them, but it's failed. Adding a warning 2 days after they've stopped wouldn't stop anything (think putting the breaks on a car which isn't moving)... but it might escalate issues, just as Don't template the regulars explains. I can't see any useful reason for doing it. WormTT(talk) 13:13, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- Actually, I didn't check the timestamps. My bad! Anyways, I asked Worm if it was appropriate to use IAR there and he said no, and when I checked, I saw that you were both edit warring, so I issued a warning. My bad. Electric Catfish 23:16, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for answering my request. Looking at the edits, I'm having a little trouble imagining someone my age being so juvenile, and I'm especially dismayed at how stupid the whole thing is. This, however is beside the point. I have filed a false positive report (I hope I got it right) and I deny that I ever made the edits. From the judgmental and accusatory nature of your response i don't suppose you will believe me, but I do want to get my response to your accusation on record. - It's not an accusatory response. I work at WP: AF/FP and I treated your question like a false positive report. It turned out to be incorrect, so I linked you to your entries. The abuse filter is complicated and uses a pattern of regular expressions (regex) to filter out edits. It also filters out edits based on account age, edit count, etc. You never actually made the edits- they were disallowed by the edit filter. Best, Electric Catfish 11:11, 16 August 2012 (UTC).

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog. You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions.
We would greatly appreciate your help. Currently, only a small handful of users are reviewing articles. Any help, even if it's just 2 or 3 reviews, it would be extremely beneficial. |

- and supposing they are almost all to user space and other talk? Worm has made some excellent suggestions, perhaps it's time for the project to start looking at those and the overall concept with a view to reducing the bureaucracy and establishing criteria that may be more realistic. Admins have a set of tools at their disposal for assessing a user's performance for any rights (and deciding how to vote on RfA, etc). Some of these tools are are available to non-admins, but knowing how to get an accurate 'at-a-glance' evaluation from them needs an expert eye. It can sometimes be quite complex but I would be happy to show you how to do it. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 11:13, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
- Kudpung, I hate the bureaucracy of the CVUA. I personally don't have the time to run a full adoption program like Worm does, so I use the CVUA to teach new users about anti vandalism and new page patrolling, instead of a full adoption course. I'd like any interested user to join, regardless of the edit count. IMHO, edit counts are meaningless. I have over 9,500 and I couldn't care less. Anyways, I'd love you to show me how to do those types of evaluations, as it willcome in handy. Lastly, thanks for all of your great work at PERM! --Electric Catfish 11:18, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
- If you hate it, then you will understand why NAO are superfluous - it's just creating more bureaucracy and simply makes more work for the admin - in the worst case scenario, the admins will just move on and let the application go stale. The most useful tool (if the user has opted in, and they should consider doing so if they want admins to consider them for user rights) is this one. Take a look at yours and let me know how you think I would read it. Then I'll explain with some other examples. You can leave your answer here to save cluttering talk pages. BTW, I meant the suggestions Worm has made for a revamp of the CVU; most people there appear to concur, but no one seems to be actually doing anything about it yet. Perhaps some of the comments here will provide some of the best advice or criticism, but AFAIK, only 74 people know it exists. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 11:45, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Hello,
Today I noticed a message had been sent to what is apparently my IP Address by you concerning "disruptive editing". This is distressing to me as I do not remember making any edits to any Wikipedia pages, ever, and i certainly don't want to be disruptive.
The message is at http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=User_talk:75.53.145.167&redirect=no. The message was posted in May 2012 (which may give an indication to how much attention I have been paying to things, but I don't remember ever having seen a message notice before either) so I'm not sure that you will be able to comply with my request for help, however if you can, I would appreciate it if you could show me the edit so that we can discuss whether I made it etc.
Thanks in advance,

Possible sock?
Hi, I'm looking at Mdf adsl splitter (created by User:YX-sally) and PLC Splitter (created by User:YiXi sunny)... and I'm thinking sock? There were some other ADSL-related articles created by similar accounts in the past few days, and I'd like your thoughts. --Mr. Vernon (talk) 01:09, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hi! To have an SPI case, we need to prove that the user is using the accounts for abusive purposes. I believe that they are both connected and have PRODed both articles. I'm going to give them an sockpuppetry warning (assuming good faith) and keep an eye out. If you see them abusing the accounts, press TW, than ARV, and than select SPI. Be sure to name all of the accounts and the evidence. Best, Electric Catfish 01:12, 22 August 2012 (UTC).
- Thanks, I've opened up a case after finding the third user who met this pattern, User:YIXI-sally, and I've opened up a sockpuppet investigation, Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/YIXI-sally. I'm not really sure what their game is, but it's certainly odd. --Mr. Vernon (talk) 01:19, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Template filter and Dynamic IP - AIV
Good morning, Electriccatfish2. I'm just stopping in to pass along some information regarding the vandalism reports you were clerking. This information is not intended as criticism but as useful stuff to help you do a better job in your chosen field of activity here on Wikipedia.
In this report the IP had only made one edit, but that's because they are editing from a dynamic IP. This means a user may be assigned a different IP each time they access the internet or reset their router. Even a short-term block is of little use because they just have to re-set their router to be assigned a new IP and be back in business. Recent IPs used by this person include 2.144.6.168, 2.145.43.142, 2.146.239.136. Here's a tool that can be used to determine the size of the range. In this instance, plugging the three IPs into the range gives Range 2.144.0.0/14 (up to 262,144 users would be blocked). Way too big for a range block. Page protection would be a better choice in this instance. There's some good information on IPs at Wikipedia:Blocking IP addresses. Another cool tool is this one, which can be used to view, at a glance, all the contribs from a given range. An admin will check, before issuing a range block, to determine if other people are making useful edits from a range. Range blocks are tricky, and even clever admins have been known to block entire countries or commit other such massive mistakes, so it's a tool we use with great caution and care.
The other report I noticed you had commented on was this bot report. Template vandalism is a problem, because a vandal can insert, say, a pornographic photo or an ad for their company, and have it appear in every article where the template is used. So once a template has a lot of transclusions, it will be semi'd or even full protected. But the bot does not give warnings, as in most instances the user has accidentally damaged the template. Since you can't see the edit, you have no way of knowing whether they have accidentally tripped the filter or if they are an actual vandal, so there's not much you can do to help the investigating administrator. Gotta go get ready for work now; see you later. -- Dianna (talk) 14:34, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Dianna! Thanks for all of the useful links to these advanced tools. I usually deal with regular vandalism here, not complex IP vandalism. Anyways, I'll read up on the technical stuff regarding IPs. I'm not that good with computers. I'll generally point out if they haven't been warned, or if they've only edited once, etc. Also, almost all of Mr. Z-bot's reports are declined. The first time a user or IP trips certain filters, it will report them to AIV. I work with the abuse filters a lot here, and I have proposed to stop Mr. Z-bot from making these types of reports. Anyways, Template Vandalism is a hidden filter, so I can't view it. Thank you for all of your help and the new tools. Best, Electric Catfish 14:42, 22 August 2012 (UTC).

UAA nao
HI EC. I saw your non-admin comment at UAA earlier, but I am not sure it is necessary. Clerking at UAA is not always useful, because an admin will still have to make the call as to whether a username is a violation of the username policy or not - your comments do not speed up the process. Also, as viewing deleted contributions is often important in determining UAA reports, it would be difficult for non-admins to make useful comments. ItsZippy (talk • contributions) 16:05, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
- Okay. The purpose is to make helpful observations for the admin. Anyways, I see that you declined it for the same reason that I put in NAO Lastly, by deleted spam pages, I can see the deleted edit count, and any speedy deletion notifications. If the userpage was deleted as a G11, it's often a red flag. Electric Catfish 16:07, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
- I know you and I came to the same conclusion, but I had to make the decision independently of you. Clerking at UAA is really not that helpful, because any admin will have to assess the situation themselves, regardless of what you've said. As for deleted contributions, you really need to see deleted contributions to make a helpful comment - some contributions are deleted because they're promotional (which might lead me to hard block a user) and some are deleted under A7 (which is not promotional and would lead me to discuss the issue or soft block). If you've not seen the contributions, your comments will not help at all, and might be counter-productive. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but UAA really does not need non-admin support as there's very little that can be done by a non-admin. ItsZippy (talk • contributions) 16:17, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, fine. Electric Catfish 16:20, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Also, if a user has been warned about their username, you don't need to report them until they edit again. That gives them a chance to respond to the notice and request a username change themselves. If they don't edit again, we can leave it. ItsZippy (talk • contributions) 16:28, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks. Most of my reports are either from promotional usernames that I find or from CAT:UAA. Electric Catfish 16:35, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
- A username is added to CAT:UAA as soon as a username warning is put on the page. My best advice would be to wait around 5-10 minutes from the first edit the user makes after the warning. Until they've edited, we cannot tell if they've been online, so don't know whether they've read the or not. Giving them 5-10 minutes, means we've given them a reasonable amount of time from the period we can be confident that they've seen the message. Vandalism Studies Update - August 2012
Hello, members of the Vandalism Studies Project! As some of us are quite new with the Vandalism Studies project, it would make sense for us to re-read some of the past studies, as well as studies outside the project. Please do so if you have a chance, just so we can get into the groove of things. We're planning on attempting to salvage the Obama study (or possibly simply convert it to a new Romney study), as well as hopefully begin our third study this November. If you have any ideas for Study 3, please suggest them! If you have any questions please post them on the project talk page. Thanks, and happy editing - we can't wait to begin working on the project! --Dan653 (talk) and Theopolisme :)

Pros & Cons of HItchhiking
Hi - I'm not too familiar with the ways of Wikipedia so maybe you'd be kind enough to help me here - I added a link to Pete Ward (i.e. me) pointing to my blogsite, not as a promotion but so that people would know who Pete Ward is. There are links oin the same page as to who other people are so how do I do this - create a Pete Ward Wikipedia page so that I can make an 'internal' link?

- Hi Peter! Wikipedia is not about you, and you don't meet our notability criteria, so there was no reason to add the link. Even if you are not using it to promote a company, it is still against Wikipedia's policies. I also would advise against creating an article about yourself. Please see WP: AUTOBIO. Offer as a Mentor
Hey there, saw you were looking to adopt new users. I've been actively editing since the beginning of the year, and hope to contribute more and more. It's interesting you do a lot of work against vandalism, as I actually got suspected of sockpuppetry. Your mentor Kudpang actually added me as a suspect, simply doing his job. Anyways, I'm not at all worried about it as I know I'm innocent. But I learned from that ordeal how I should be careful not to reword or reorganize information that's already been marked as original research.
I am not particularly interested in vandal-fighting, but I do like new-page patrolling. Not sure how the whole mentoring process works but I'd love to learn a thing or two. Thanks MusikAnimal (talk) 16:53, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi, You have recently posted a warning on my talk page RE: edit war. With due respect, I have clearly stated the reason for the revert as being "deletion not justified: repeated requests for providing justification have failed." The proof of these requests are here. Vast amount of the article has been deleted, and the editor who has made the deletions has repeatedly ignored my requests for justification for making the deletion--no specific violation against any Wikipedia guideline is cited by the editor against any statement he has deleted.
I am wondering what has triggered the citation for edit war, and why it hasn't triggered for the other editor who has done a lot of edits, most of them deletions, on the specific article.
I do want to perform my editing within the confines of Wikipedia guideline, and want to resolve the conflict in an amicable manner. Please advice on how to approach this situation when the other editor has deleted vast amount of info in an article, and then repeatedly ignores requests in the talk page for justifications regarding these deletions
Regards, Showmebeef (talk) 19:56, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
- I've discussed this issue with the other user involved and I suggested taking it to WP: DRN. The only exemptions to the 3RR are obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and you two are edit warring none the less, and if you continue, you will be blocked. I suggest you two take it to WP: DRN. Electric Catfish 20:00, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks for the pointer to DRN. I'll take it there. One more Q though:
- There is an RfC going on for the article. But the other editor has trimmed a lot of content--without a proper presentation of information to other reviewers, it would provide a potential for them to reach a different conclusion. That's one of the reason I wanted to revert. Any suggestion? Showmebeef (talk) 22:13, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
- I tried to use DRN, but realized that only one form of DR can be used--there is an RfC put on by user S&P already. Apparently a 3rd editor on the article who has encountered a lot of difficulties with S&P has already tried DRB but was declined by the board. I am pretty sure we can get something resolved by using WP:DRB, as any objective 3rd arbitrator could easily detect a pattern in the talk page. However, we have reached a deadlock here. Any suggestion on how to move on from here? Showmebeef (talk) 16:44, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

Congratulations, Electriccatfish2! You're receiving this barnstar of merit because you recently crossed the 5,000 classification threshold using STiki.
We thank you both for your contributions to Wikipedia at-large and your use of the tool. We hope you continue your ascent up the leaderboard and stay in touch at the talk page. Thank you and keep up the good work! West.andrew.g (talk) 08:31, 28 August 2012 (UTC) |
DRN needs your help!
Hey there Electriccatfish2, I noticed you've listed yourself as a volunteer at the dispute resolution noticeboard but you haven't been very active there lately - I was hoping if you had some spare time if you could take a look there and offer some assistance. Thanks again for your help :-) Steven Zhang Help resolve disputes! 11:27, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks Steve! NPP has been quite backlogged recently, so I haven't been quite active there recently. Anyways, I'll try to be more active there. Electric Catfish 13:20, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

You recently reverted my edit and classed it as 'good faith.' However this song is in fact his new single and he has launched an entire campaign around it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2QJ74U_W0w

- Hi! I reverted it because it was unsourced. Please include a citation next time you edit the page, if possible. Best, Electric Catfish 13:26, 29 August 2012 (UTC).
Hey, Electriccatfish, I saw that you changed the A7 tag to an A3 tag on this article. The presence of an infobox actually means that it doesn't qualify for A3, as some informational content about the subject is provided through the infobox. Check out WP:CSD#A3, where infoboxes are specifically listed as disqualifying an article for A3. Thanks! Writ Keeper ⚇♔ 15:22, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks! Either way, it doesn't assert notability, so it will be deleted as an A7. Electric Catfish 15:26, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- You mean significance or importance, not notability. The absence of an assertion of notability does not mean that an article meets the requirements for A7. In order to avoid A7, an article only needs to have a plausible assertion of significance or importance, which is a lower standard than notability. (Of course, the article in question may not manage that either.) --Demiurge1000 (talk) 20:20, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree with Demi. For example, an article about a local entertainer may assert that the entertainer has made several television appearences. That is enough of a claim to pass A7, but not enough to pass the relevant notability guideline, WP: ENT. In a case like that, I'd nominate it for deletion instead. Electric Catfish 20:22, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- So "it doesn't assert notability, so it will be deleted as an A7" is not correct, right? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 20:24, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, but the article (or rather its infobox) didn't assert significance, and therefor is eligible for speedy deletion under criterion A7. Electric Catfish 20:28, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Hello
Please can you provide guidance on what you are looking for?
This is a charity challenge in a similar vain to the Three Peaks Challenge but is still in it's infancy so I am not sure what notability sources you want or can be provided.
Help/advice/pointers would be appreciated.

AFC Question
Hi Electric - I saw this diff, and was a bit puzzled - why would you "resubmit for review" even if you obviously already knew you were going to decline it less than a minute later? Wouldn't it have made more sense to just let the user in question know on their talk? This would have avoided the harsh "declined" template... Sorry for being a wee bit nit-picky ... I just happened to see this and was a wee bit curious as to your reasoning. Theopolisme 21:09, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Theo! I was answering help-me requests and someone asked for their AFC submission to be reviewed. Since I'm active in that area, before determining what I was going to do with the submission (in terms of pass/decline), I submitted it for review. It only has a few sentences, none of which assert notability, plus it is poorly sourced, so I declined it. I also left a personal message on the user's talk page. I don't think that the decline template is harsh or bitey. The AFCH script didn't send a decline template since I submitted it. Instead, I notified the user with what improvements need to be made. Best, Electric Catfish 22:12, 30 August 2012 (UTC).
- I'm not disagreeing with your decline, I was just curious as to why you bothered to resubmit it rather than just tell them that it still didn't meet requirements, as you're "active" in that area? Theopolisme 22:24, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- I didn't make the decision or read the stub before submitting it. After I added the submission templates, I took a quick look at it and saw how that it failed WP: CORP and WP: GNG. I didn't template the author, either, rather I gave him a personal message. Best, Electric Catfish 22:32, 30 August 2012 (UTC).

Can you give specific examples to help me rewrite a page.
Hello. Could you please give specific examples of why http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Oz_Unity was denied approval. I don't want to argue, I just want to know how I could specifically improve the page. thanks ryanvade
- Sure! The issue was that the article was not backed up by reliable sources. The sources that you provided are unfortunately not considered reliable. Please take a look at WP: RS and don't hesitate to ask me if you have any more questions. Best, Electric Catfish 22:13, 30 August 2012 (UTC).
Loaded question
Hi, your question here: Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/Rcsprinter123#Questions_for_the_candidate seems to be loaded. It asks what he would do if he's at 6RR with an ip. Saying what he would do implies he has been edit warring. IRWolfie- (talk) 12:14, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
- It was taken from Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Hahc21 and was asked by Dennis Brown. The purpose of the question is to test the candidate's knowledge if they understand that 3RR can be broken while reverting BLP violations, plus if they understand WP: INVOLVED. Best, Electric Catfish 12:16, 31 August 2012 (UTC).
- Catfish... you've said "An IP has just reverted you for the 7th time", Dennis said "An editor has just reverted for the 7th time". IRWolfie's point is that you are suggesting the person who is being questioned has been in an edit war. WormTT(talk) 12:20, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
- I understand. I'll remove the question. Electric Catfish 12:21, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

How do you like it?
Hey, I see your helping out at DYK. How do you like it? I spent so many hours each day over there in many earlier times on Wikipedia, became pretty addictive. Wait until you get into preparing queues, if you haven't already. If you have then you'll probably know what I'm inferring to :) Calmer Waters 19:25, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Calmer Waters! It's great to hear from you! NTox gave me some scripts a few weeks ago, and one of them was the DYK check, so I've reviewed a couple. I hope to gain experience in that area and get some DYKs of my own. I see that one of the things that you were involved in before you became an admin was DYKs. If you have any advice for me, please let me know. Thank, Electric Catfish 22:24, 3 September 2012 (UTC).
- You too. DYK is really the reason I became an admin with the help and support of those working in the area. You really get a chance to hit on everything policy and guideline wise. I used to have an essay here that would help those starting (a quick cheat sheet); however, things have changed a little bit and it needs some updating. I think it is great that they get to benefit from your enthusiasm. Turn over there is about every 4 to 6 months and they always need help. I liked how it gave me a little taste of everything. Interesting new subjects, interacting with new editors and those far more experienced then myself, and becoming more familiar with the various guidelines and different MOSs. When you start doing queue setups, you'll get a good taste of what to expect as an admin sometimes. Your basically taking responsibility for what is going to be featured on the main page and that they meet all the requirement and guidelines of the site. Sometimes stressful, but rewarding. Do that well and demonstrating that ability well goes far ie. "I thought you were an admin already :). Calmer Waters 22:47, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
- I actually found a link to your cheatsheet and I find it incredibly helpful. DYK gives you a taste of everything and it also helps you learn all of the policies and MOSes. I believe that it's not just the hook that has to meet the criteria, but also the article has to be written well, and comply with policies such as MOS, BLP, NPOV, etc. A few experienced users have already told me that they thought that I was an admin already. I personally never associated DYKs with adminship until I saw your RFA, to be honest. Although the main page is fully-protected, most of my interactions with admins are CSD tagging, deletion discussions, or vandal reporting. One thing that I noticed is how long it takes to do the review :). They look like they could use a bit of help there with the reviews. I've seen users who have created less articles than me have excellent hooks and I hope to do the same. Thank you for all of your help, Electric Catfish 22:57, 3 September 2012 (UTC).

The Tea Leaf - Issue Six
Hi! Welcome to the sixth edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!
- Teahouse serves over 700 new editors in six months on Wikipedia! Since February 27, 741 new editors have participated at the Teahouse. The Q&A board and the guest intro pages are more active than ever.
- Automatic invites are doing the trick: 50% more new editors visiting each week. Ever since HostBot's automated invite trial phase began we've seen a boost in new editor participation. Automating a baseline set of invitations also allows Teahouse hosts to focus on serving hot cups of help to guests, instead of spending countless hours inviting.
- Guests to the Teahouse continue to edit more & interact more with other community members than non-Teahouse guests according to six month metrics. Teahouse guests make more than twice the article edits and edit more talk pages than other new editors.
- New host process implemented which encourages anyone to get started as a Teahouse host in a few easy steps. Stop by the hosts page and become a Teahouse host today!
- Host lounge renovations nearing completion. Working closely with Teahouse hosts, we've made some major renovations to the Teahouse Host Lounge - the main hangout and resource space for hosts. Learn more about the improvements here.
As always, thanks for supporting the Teahouse project! Stop by and visit us today!

thanks for the barnstar.
Although I have been here for 4 years, I have been a lurker for a good chunk of it because I didn't always have a home internet connection to edit from, me being poor and jobless in this lousy economy we have here in the United States and all (and with debilitating major depression being a wet blanket in my life). However, I have learned the policies by reading and studying though them and with a hands on approach. Anyway, thanks for the barnstar. Thebestofall007 (talk) 00:20, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

DYK reviews
Hi. Thanks for pitching in at WP:DYK. It would be appreciated if you would provide some documentation of your DYK reviews, rather than simply adding a tickmark. As described at Wikipedia:Did you know/Reviewing guide, review of a nomination means checking not only the hook fact sourcing, but also article length and newness, overall sourcing of the article, image license (if an image is proposed for use in DYK), absence of copyvios, and several other considerations. Providing notes on what you checked -- and what you found in your review -- helps other DYK participants; without some notes, somebody else probably will feel obligated to do the review all over again to make sure that the tickmark was valid. (Also, YMMV, but I find it useful to write down what I did, as sometimes it reminds me that I forgot to check for one of the requirements.) --Orlady (talk) 18:46, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hi! I'm new to DYK and while I am familiar with the guidelines, I didn't know that I had to provide a rationale. I have the DYK tick script, so it does the statistical part of the requirement for me. Anyways, I'll be sure to include a rationale in the future. Thanks, Electric Catfish 19:55, 30 August 2012 (UTC).

Invitation to comment at Monty Hall problem RfC
Because of your interest in dispute resolution,, I am inviting you to comment on the following RfC:
Talk:Monty Hall problem#Conditional or Simple solutions for the Monty Hall problem?
This dispute has been going on for over ten years and there have been over 1,300,000 words posted on the article talk page (by comparison, all of the Harry Potter books together total 1,084,170 words). Over the years the dispute has been through multiple noticeboards, mediators, and even the Arbitration Committee without resolving the conflict, so a lot of wisdom is needed here. --Guy Macon (talk) 00:44, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
Archiving
Hi, I am just curious why you are archiving at WP:PERMS. Please only archive requests that have been denied/approved of a minimum of two days. Please also follow the previous archiving format of edit summaries. You also put the request on the wrong page under the wrong format. I'm not saying this to discourage you, your help is always appreciated. I would just appreciate it more if only a person who has done it before archives. :) -- Cheers, Riley Huntley talk 15:16, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Riley and welcome back. I archived a few months ago when I started helping out at PERM. Armbrust gave me instructions on how to archive, so I'll take a look at those. Since Armbrust got himself blocked again, I'm filling in for him (along with you). Anyways, thanks for notifying me, so I'll take a look at his instructions. Best, Electric Catfish 16:43, 2 September 2012 (UTC).
- I thought you said you were keeping away from PERMS? Also, sorry to be nit-picky, but you're user page is quite untidy, you have user boxes everywhere! Also, you have one about archiving on there.... :)--Chip123456 17:45, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
- I was staying way from closures, not archiving. I only has 3 userboxes. What should I tidy up? Electric Catfish 17:47, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

- Well, you should put all the user boxes in the same place, including the adoption one at the top. Instead if having the big blue YGM box, do a nowiki template - {{YGM}}, because that looks quite untidy. Also, remove the random archiving box on there as well.--Chip123456 17:54, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
- Fixed I copied the DRN notifier from Steven Zhang's talk page, so I guess I caught his archive box, too. Electric Catfish 17:57, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware that you were filling in for him? I have already been doing it for the last 6 days. I think it would be best if only one person does it, that way there is less confusion and there won't be any mistakes (archiving at the same time and stuff). Please do look at the instructions he left you. UPDATE: Where were these instructions on archiving left? I searched your arvhives and Armbrusts and could not find them. -- Cheers, Riley Huntley talk 01:14, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
- Fixed I copied the DRN notifier from Steven Zhang's talk page, so I guess I caught his archive box, too. Electric Catfish 17:57, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
I found them. They are in Archive 11. They are instructions on how to close stuff. Anyways, if I see that you aren't online for a certain day, I'll take care of it for you, but unless you take off a day, you can have it until his block is over on September 14th. I was helping fill in for him at the end of his 1st block. Anyways, I took a look at how you two archive and saw the correct way to do it. Best, Electric Catfish 11:11, 3 September 2012 (UTC).
- I'd have to assume you meant Armbrust's 11th archive, but I don't think you meant that, as any section's there about perm archiving isn't particularly informative, or at least anything found there can be found checking the perm page's hist and perm archive pages. Anyway, 2 days is the usual of waiting before archiving on perm pages. Since we're on the topic of archives, why are your (EC2) archives so unusual? Mysterytrey 17:27, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hi! Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you'll see a section called "WP:PERM". I'd rather wait until the page is cluttered before archiving. PERM isn't urgent. I have a bot archive this page and Zippy fixed it up for me a few months ago. Electric Catfish 18:50, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
- Neither of the WP:PERM sections are relevant to archiving. You need to start practicing what you preach "PERM isn't urgent." Then why were you archiving a request so soon? -- Cheers, Riley Huntley talk 19:17, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
- I did not know about that one should wait 2 days before archiving. Electric Catfish 19:19, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
- WP: PERM, because it still hasn't been linked yet ;) Anyway, if you still plan to archive if Riley Huntley isn't on, I recommend you look at how it was archived before, edit summaries and all. Mysterytrey 20:08, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hi! I've taken a look at how Riley and Armbrust have been doing, so that I know how to for future reference. Riley's got the archiving taken care of for the time being, so I'm not going to be doing it unless he goes on a Wikibreak or something. Best, Electric Catfish 22:21, 3 September 2012 (UTC).

- Neither of the WP:PERM sections are relevant to archiving. You need to start practicing what you preach "PERM isn't urgent." Then why were you archiving a request so soon? -- Cheers, Riley Huntley talk 19:17, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
Er, there is a bot which handles the archiving, just so you know. - Kingpin13 (talk) 01:01, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
- Er, is it running? -- Cheers, Riley Huntley talk 01:57, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
- Yes. You can see the reports on the runs at User:KingpinBot/report. It just doesn't often get the chance to actually make an archival these days because there are so many people now doing them for it. - Kingpin13 (talk) 05:37, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
- Archiving by me will be ceased (and I ask that Electriccatfish2 will do the same.) -- Cheers, Riley Huntley talk 05:35, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

I guess this is a decent place to say, not sure, but just noticed that WP:RPE/Reviewer/Archive 13 and WP:RPE/Reviewer/Historical/Archive 13 are different, however WP:RPE/Reviewer/Archive 12 redirects to WP:RPE/Reviewer/Historical/Archive 12. If one navigates through the links at the top on WP:RPE/Reviewer/Archive 13, and they click a number before 12, then they click 13, they're taken to the old archive. Unless this was intentional, shouldn't the current archive 13 be moved to archive 14 and then redirect archive 13 to WP:RPE/Reviewer/Historical/Archive 13?
Congratulations!
You have been added to my friends list. Why don't you visit the list and read the two bullets at the top? I have added you because you have demonstrated to very friendly and courteous around me and I have seen you around meaning I have had the opportunity to evaluate you. Copyright lesson
Hey Catfish. I've been thinking about your request to skip the copyright lesson and come back to it, and I think for the moment I'm going to decline. Copyright is such an important part of the encyclopedia, as we want to remain free. It is absolutely essential that every user, especially every user who has aspirations of being a respected and well thought of editor - perhaps even an admin - understands at least the basics of copyright. I know that it's a bit of a difficult lesson, but it's also the most important lesson that I teach, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to knuckle down and see what you can get your head around. I'm always around to ask questions, and there's no question that I'd regard as stupid with respect to copyright. WormTT(talk) 12:20, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Dave! I asked to come back to it later, but copyright policies are essential here, so I'll read over the pages and take the test. Best, Electric Catfish 23:34, 9 September 2012 (UTC).

CVUA
Hi Electric, I seem to remember you saying somewhere that you were leaving the CVUA, but your name is still in the list of active instructors. I was just wondering if you'd decided to come back? Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 13:05, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hi! I did leave and I returned when they implemented Worm and Kudpung's ideas. I was a bit annoyed, but since the issues were rectified, I returned Electric Catfish 23:31, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
WP:MMA
Hello,
i noticed you edited a Mixed Martial Arts page in August, but you haven't listed yourself as a Participant on the Wikiproject for Mixed Martial Arts pages. I've decided to try to drum up interest to get more people involved!

Hi
You removed the admin backlog from Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Reviewer. There is actually one request left there since more than 6 days Harsh (talk) 18:35, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know, and I have reverted myself. It appeared as if most of the requests there had been taken care of, but there are no real backlogs at PERM, as nothing there is actually urgent. Electric Catfish 18:51, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
- I was actually wondering whether my request is visible or not . And yes there is nothing urgent there, but since all the requests were answered I was just thinking why not mine Harsh (talk) 18:54, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
