Assistance with an Image Upload

Could you give me a hand with an image upload? I attempted to upload this image as "WTYD-FM WXTG-FM 2013.png". For whatever reason, it failed to upload. Can you help, please? - NeutralhomerTalk06:45, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

"Failed to upload" doesn't tell me much. Eeekster (talk) 08:46, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
After I went through the steps with the Upload Wizard, clicked the location where the image have been, there wasn't an image there, didn't upload. - NeutralhomerTalk09:28, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
I still can't help. Eeekster (talk) 19:22, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello, You've marked my upload as replaceable fair use, but could you tell me where can I find this free equivalent. --Rezonansowy (talk • contribs) 23:42, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

No, I can't tell you where to find one. But the subject is still alive and one can be taken, therefore it does not qualify as fair use. Eeekster (talk) 23:43, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
Why?--Rezonansowy (talk • contribs) 00:04, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
The policy states: "Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created". Asking "why" doesn't change that. Eeekster (talk) 00:06, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Marina DeBris hoop dress

I had written previously: "I added this image http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/File:Marina_DeBris_Hoop_Trash_Dress.jpg

Your comment was that a freely licensed version could be found. I added the contested response to the description of that page, but I'm not sure I did it right. I searched the web and could not find a freely licensed version of an image that shows Marina DeBris's work. If you can find one, I'll use it."

Now the image is deleted. Could you tell me on what grounds it was deleted? I contested the intent to delete, but never was told why you (or someone) declined the contestation. There is no freely licensed version of an image that shows Marina DeBris' work, therefore the image DOES qualify for fair use. So what is the problem?Socialresearch (talk) 00:57, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

I did not say one could be found. But one could be created and that's why the image cannot be here under fair use. Eeekster (talk) 01:14, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
Would you please tell me how a free to use image could be created? What would that involve? I spoke to Marina DeBris and she does not have any photos of her work that she is willing to 'license' as free to use. What other ways could a free to use image be created? Socialresearch (talk) 01:29, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
One uses a camera to create one. Eeekster (talk) 07:47, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
You are not responding to the main question, how to create an image that is freely usable? Marina DeBris indicated that she does not was photos of her work to be freely usable. Therefore taking a picture wouldn't do any good. As she does not want pictures of her work to be freely usable, then photos of her work can only be used under fair use. So now, what other justifications do I need to give to demonstrate that photos qualify as fair use? Socialresearch (talk) 11:36, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
If you (or anyone else) take a photo of her in a public place, she does not own the copyright. So it is possible to create an image with a free license. Eeekster (talk) 19:06, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

File:ScottThomasBorders.jpg

I fixed the licensing on the photo page and also contested the speedy deletion. But I just saw that you deleted it. The photo was licensed by the copyright holder for non-commercial use only, and I think I must have checked the wrong box or did not include the correct license when I uploaded the photo. I corrected the license as well as contested the speedy delete, so I am confused as to why it was speedy deleted. Thank you. AuthorAuthor (talk) 19:08, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

IIRC, the source said "all rights reserved". But even if is does say non-commercial use only, that's enough to get the image deleted. Eeekster (talk) 19:11, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Files, etc

Not converting File:Lifesave raft alternative3219304.jpg and similar files I've created was the mistake I made with those files. We should probably convert them to SVG (If I'm not mistaken, conversion to SVG files would crop the image, removing the background). Qxukhgiels (talk) 14:47, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

Photo used in expanded version of "Jean Mayer" Wikipedia entry

Sorry if I don't understand what exactly is going on here. I'm new at this.
I uploaded two files to Wiki: Jean Mayer in 1976.jpg and Jean Mayer.jpg. Both are digital files sent to me by Harry Maskell, the photographer who took the original picture of President Mayer.
I have written permission from Mr. Maskell to upload both not just to this article but to Wiki Commons, and will send a copy of his e-mail to me to the listed e-mail address for Wiki permissions.
If there's anything else in question, please let me know before either deleting the photograph or any material from the entry. I'm doing this entry as a favor to President Mayer's colleagues at Tufts, and have source information for every single statement in the expanded entry. If anything looks like it needs a page reference, please just let me know and I'll get right to it.

Thanks,

WCD

Hey,

I saw that the article I created, TSV 1865 Dachau, was reviewed by you. I hope that it is a good review because I actually discussed about it in the WikiProject Association Football before creating the article and linking it with the Deutsche version of Wikipedia (similar article) and here's the link for the discussion in the Wikiproject: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#New_Member.2FProposal_for_an_article_creation. I am planning to add more to the article tomorrow or Sunday when I translate more of the German language via GoogleTranslate then change it to the appropriate English words for a German sports club article.

Orphaned non-free media (File:HereSheComes.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:HereSheComes.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Werieth (talk) 19:20, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Image Uploading

Hi, I wanted to know whether there's a way to upload images on Wikipedia that I do not own. I just want them to be shown on article because there only one image of that kind. Is there a way out? or is it just not possible? (Nipun Nayar 11:25, 25 August 2013 (UTC))

Simon T. Bailey

Hi this is KP2500 thanks for the quick review of File:Simon_T_Bailey_Headshot.jpg. I took the photo myself and am uploading it. I have fixed the reference. But if I have not done so properly, please let me know. Thanks again. KP2500 (talk) 14:27, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

I have unreviewed a page you curated

Hi, I'm EuroCarGT. I wanted to let you know that I saw the page you reviewed, Arkan, Ontario, and have un-reviewed it again. If you have any questions, please ask them on my talk page. Thank you. EuroCarGT 01:46, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

Gemarrs - requesting a picture of myself be deleted

I apologize for the changing of the tags, as I haven't hardly ever used wikipedia, and years ago when I did, it was very little. I don't know hardly anything these days about how many of these processes work, so please forgive me.

The image Gemarrs.jpg, is a picture of myself, for which I had uploaded in 2006 (I believe?), and was simply trying to find the correct tag to request it for speedy deletion. I do not wish it to be on wikipedia nor does it have any associated use for it to exist here either (as far as I'm aware).

File found here - http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/File:Gemarrs.jpg

I would greatly appreciate your help on this. Thank you.

So why not correct the problem I tagged it for? Eeekster (talk) 01:10, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
