Thanks for your edits on Tropical cyclones in the Mascarene Islands. It was in need of an update. Hurricanehink mobile (talk) 05:50, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! Was thinking of editing it for months, I finally decided to edit it after I saw it wasn't updated. EdittingCyclone (talk) 09:48, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you were thinking about it months, then I'm really glad you decided to create an account! In fact, there is an entire community of Wikipedia editors, known as Wikipedia:WikiProject Tropical cyclones, which has been around for 19 years, cataloging and describing tropical cyclones around the world. I was actually the one who created that list - Tropical cyclones in the Mascarene Islands - only I haven't had the time to get around to editing it, not when there's a bunch of other projects I wanted to work on! Now that you've taken the first steps toward editing the list, I wondered if you wouldn't mind going a step further. The entries you added were a good start, but you didn't say much of what the storms did. Also, you didn't cite any of your work. But that's OK! You can find references for most of the entries in the season articles that you linked to. For example, in the entry for Bheki, you repeated information that you might've read in the season section, such as the bit about the power outages. You can copy the reference from there (it's reference 36, you can find it toward the end of Bheki's section in the editing window). I'm not sure if you noticed, but most of the rest of the list has citations. It's important for Wikipedia to show its work, where it gets the information from. As you know, anyone can edit. That means anyone can add misinformation, or anyone can also help make the project better.
Sorry for the rant - TLDR welcome to Wikipedia! ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:28, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
well I'm new to the Wikipedia editting, u have some trouble linking sources EdittingCyclone (talk) 18:48, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Totally get it, which is why I wanted to walk you through it. Are you able to see the edit window for Cyclone Bheki here? If so, toward the end, you'll see what you're looking for. It starts with <ref>{{cite web |language=fr |url=https://lexpress.mu/s/........ - it's basic coding, but it's important for how Wikipedia functions. And if you don't cite your work, then someone might revert your edits, rather than putting up with it being unsourced. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:53, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey quick question - how come you changed the intensity of Cyclone Chido to 140 knots? The JTWC hasn't released their best track yet, and the highest intensity in a public advisory was 135 knots. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:33, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I saw it being 260km/h but I don't think it actually reached that, however, wind gusts peaked at 315 km/h EdittingCyclone (talk) 18:39, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • peaked at 305km/h
EdittingCyclone (talk) 18:41, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It peaked at 305km/h in gusts not 315 EdittingCyclone (talk) 18:42, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The infoboxes list intensity in maximum sustained winds, but should not list the gusts unless we have an exact value (not estimated). The information listed in infoboxes should be from either the Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre, or in this case, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, which is by longstanding policy how we derive the 1-minute winds. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:45, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
