Ed Butowsky

[edit]

Hello, User:Edbutowsky

1) It is forbidden to register usernames that impersonate other people. 2) It is forbidden to write about yourself in Wikipedia.

Either way, please refrain from attempting further edits in the Ed Butowsky article. Your edits up to this point, which are transparent advertising copy [1] that bear no resemblance to encyclopedic prose, have been reverted. Further such efforts will not be welcomed. I am not sure how to get a hold of you and discuss this matter with you. I am not impersonating anyone i am Ed Butowsky. This is my information. Why would i be denied keeping my information current? I presented information that is in fact off of my business page and my personal page. Nothing was falsified. Can someone please explain this? Furthermore, you misspelled my last name, it is spelled correctly in my bio page — Preceding unsigned comment added by Edbutowsky (talkcontribs) 14:50, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for having misspelled your name in the subsection header and have corrected it. The policy on writing about yourself can be found at WP:Autobiography and WP:COI. The edits in question were not necessarily factually inaccurate as such but were commercial or promotional speech advertising your products. That content is what one would expect on a personal website or social media pages; media that are understood by the reader to be the exclusive property of the subject and to have been written by them for promotional purposes. Wikipedia, as a crowdsourced encyclopedia, is a different context from a blog or a corporate website and there are different rules and expectations for style, content, and authorship. The intent here is to focus on coverage of the subject in independent reliable sources and parallel that coverage in tone. The tendency towards promotional copy in this article seems to be a long term problem going back to at least 2008, when the first version of it was deleted [2] in part because it was exclusively promotional and again in September 2012 for the same reason. Yet it keeps coming back with the same problems. The Groundhog Day strategy is not a particularly efficient way of doing things here and it probably would be easier to try to reach some broad understanding of what the article should and shouldn't be at the article talk page. I appreciate your willingness to discuss these issues. Geogene (talk) 17:45, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on User:Edbutowsky, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
