Proposed deletion of Library of Congress Classification:Class Q -- Science

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Library of Congress Classification:Class Q -- Science, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Thurn and Taxis, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Thurn and Taxis has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Thurn and Taxis, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Wikimédia Québec

(English version follow)

Allo,

(Excuse my poor english)

Hi !

First of all, I would like to thank you for your interventions on the discussion fr:Discussion Projet:Québec#Sous section car vous êtes tous bavards :-). We'll have a meeting january 2009 about the Wikimédia Québec project and I have some questions for you :

  1. If we accept to be a subchapter of Wikimédia Canada, do you accept that we register ourselves on the website www.wikimedia.qc.ca with the name Wikimédia Québec ? Do you need an autorisation of the Wikimedia Foundation for that ? Do you need a « official » letter of our organisation for that ?
  2. What are your short term goals ? Recently, I read that the Wikimedia-de chapter convince the German Governement to change some picture licence (fr:Wikipédia:Le Bistro/7 décembre 2008#Large don d'images). I think that we can try to do the same in Canada and Québec. I will meet tomorrow one of the team member of my provincial deputy and I'll talk about that to her. I can be very interesting if Wikimedia Canada can do the same with federals organisations (like Radio-Canada/CBC).
  3. If we accept to be a subchapter of Wikimédia Canada, do we need to register our provincial organism ? A good federal file can be (easely ?) transfered to the provincial.

Regards,

- Khayman (contact) 19:52, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

P.S. : Can you please answer me on my french user talk page ?

Rebonjour,
Hi !
We organise a meeting mid-january at the Université Laval. We want to discuss about the provincial incorporation of our association. I have filled the papers to do that, but I need the autorization of the WMF (or of Wikimedia Canada ?) to use the name Wikimédia Québec and a modified version of the logo (you can see it fr:Projet:Québec/Wikimédia Québec).
Incorporate our association provincially is easy and compatible with your federal work. If you want someone leaving in Québec to sign your federal application, I think that Antaya can be your man. He's angry for now (I've been hard with him), but I think that you can contact him by email.
For now, can you ask the WMF if we can use the name Wikimédia Québec and the logo ? We can write a letter too in january and sign it to ask the same.

P.S. : Do you prefer that I continue to write to you in the 2 languages or you prefer one of them ? I don't know if my english is understandable... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Khayman (talkcontribs) 13:21, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Sysop confirmation on enwikisource

Hello Eclecticology. Your annual confirmation discussion on enwikisource has obtained three objections, so your continued sysop access will be decided by simple majority (vote of confidence). I'm letting you know here since you've been away from enwikisource recently, and you were most recently active on this wiki. —{admin} Pathoschild 01:55:33, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Library of Congress classification articles

Hello Eclecticology. I found one of the Library of Congress articles in the list of those needing wikification. After posting on the talk page of WP:notability, and noting that you have made many contributions to those articles, some dating back to the early 2000s, I'm coming to ask whether you still think we should have a complete set, or whether some merger and consolidation is called for. I'm thinking of WP:NOT (a directory), and bearing in mind that the classification is readily found online in other sources. Currently the articles do not carry any commentary about the classification; they simply reproduce it. I admit that I am partly motivated by the fact that it would take me a long while to find internal links for the particular classification (on American history). Thanks. Itsmejudith (talk) 21:30, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

I too would like to follow this up. I mentioned it just now on Avenoth's talk p., [1] , and links to earlier discussions are at [2] and [3].
Judith, --originally they were I think intended to be developed into a navigational device, but I don't think the LC classification (unlike, say, UDC) is suitable for narrow topics, though it has been used that way, and, based on having worked with it most of my life, I don't think of it as particularly rational. I suppose that when possible links could be put in, as you seem to be suggesting, but I am not all that sure it is worth the effort. I mentioned in the discussion that there is at least one good secondary source, Chen's book on LC--and older works, plus the short descriptions in every cataloging text, and there are some articles on various sections scattered in the literature. Come to think of it, there is another purpose--in principle, every entry there corresponds to at least one book,so in principle anything there that does not have an article in Wikipedia could have one. Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Eclecticology! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 2 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Hey Eclecticology. Can you clarify what "Stamps" refers to in Steve Dagora? Is that a publication of some sort? Are there some other sources that could be added? Thanks! --MZMcBride (talk) 19:18, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia's tagline

Hi. I noticed that you participated in a 2005/2006 discussion and straw poll on whether or not the tagline at the top of all Wikipedia articles should be changed from "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" to "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit". I don't know if you're still interested in this issue or not, but this exact change has been proposed once again, this time at the Village pump, and there is currently an RFC (Request for Comment) on the subject where it is being discussed. You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. MBisanz talk 02:03, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Hello, this is just to let you know that I have granted you the "autopatrolled" permission. This won't affect your editing, it just automatically marks any page you create as patrolled, benefiting new page patrollers. Please remember:

  • This permission does not give you any special status or authority
  • Submission of inappropriate material may lead to its removal
  • You may wish to display the {{Autopatrolled}} top icon and/or the {{User wikipedia/autopatrolled}} userbox on your user page
  • If, for any reason, you decide you do not want the permission, let me know and I can remove it
If you have any questions about the permission, don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise, happy editing! Acalamari 14:00, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Hallmark

"Justification"? Have you justified why you would want to change something that was fine, the it originally was before you decided it needed changing? I haven't seen any explaination on your part for your edits either. From what I can see, it seems you just decided to change it and it looks messy.

It looks messy having all those red links, that don't lead to any movies, not to mention showing directors, actors etc.. That's what links are for.

Why are you changing it in the first place? It was created to look the list of Hallmark movies, same as the Hallmark site, minus the repeat movies of course. What's with all those "X"s too?

Why are you putting seasons in place of the years? GiantTiger001 (talk) 05:53, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Why are you changing it in the first place? Do you ever talk like a regular person? "Justified", "conforming"?

The way you keep adding it, looks messy and not very nice. What's wrong with making links to movies, instead of the way you're doing it? GiantTiger001 (talk) 07:15, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Ancient History

Papua New Guinea

Have you received the 1972 Encyclopedia of PNG you mentioned during the discussion about Steve Dagora? Was there a detailed entry for Dagora? A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 19:27, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

How frustrating! Well, please do let me know when you receive the other volumes. As a side note, I'm sure this source useful for giving other PNG-related articles a little TLC. I'm interested to hear about what you find. A Stop at Willoughby (talk) 02:24, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Josef Stalin

Please explain I have no knowledge of transliterating Cyrillic into Latin letters, so I cannot speak to how good of an idea one or the other form is. I will say that I can see nothing gained by having different spellings of the same person's name peppering an encyclopedia, but that's honestly not something I'm interested in arguing. What I really don't understand is the scenario where Josef Stalin would be a printworthy redirect to Joseph Stalin. Are you seriously suggesting that someone would print an encyclopedia with an entry that reads "Stalin, Josef see Joseph Stalin" and then have the article on "Joseph Stalin" immediately below it? —Justin (koavf)TCM03:25, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Redirects "I don't think that mere alphabetical proximity is a sufficient basis for making a redirect prospectively unprintworthy... If omitting the alternative really matters at that time it's an easy editorial decision then; we don't have to decide for them now." By this reasoning, then when would anyone use Category:Printworthy redirects or Category:Unprintworthy redirects? —Justin (koavf)TCM22:55, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
Not quite "[T]he idea of a print Wikipedia will never be more than fantasy." There are, have been, and will continue to be several printed editions of Wikipedia and subsets of Wikipedia articles. This is even a goal of one of the first WikiProjects. "Even it were not, the unprintworthy should be limited to misspelllings." I don't know where you got this impression, as Category:Unprintworthy redirects says, "the name of a redirect may be unprintworthy for a number of reasons, including being nearly identical to the name of the target page, containing typographical errors or not being encyclopaedic." There are several valid reasons for unprintworthy redirects and one of them is virtually identical alternative spellings. I recommend that you take a look at this CfD as well. —Justin (koavf)TCM04:53, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

Please stop Category:Unprintworthy redirects is to be added to pages where, "the name of a redirect [is] nearly identical to the name of the target page." That is certainly the case with Josef Stalin/Joseph Stalin. Please stop removing this category because you think it's "silly." —Justin (koavf)TCM23:07, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Your edit on 14 November 2003

In this 14 November 2003 edit you, as far as I can determine, introduced the YYYY-MM-DD date format, and the concept that this format conformed with ISO 8601, to the English Wikipedia. I would like to know if it was the intention of the editors at that time to conform to the requirements of that standard to always use the Gregorian calendar, and to avoid using the format for years before 1583 unless consent was obtained from data exchange partners (that is, readers). List of Wagon Train episodes

Hi. I noticed that you have added some cast members to the first season. I put this list together to resemble other episode lists such as the ones for M*A*S*H, Smallville , Grey's Anatomy, and The X-Files. These lists do not contain a cast member column, therefore I find it necessary to undue your work. I'm sure you mean well but the column simply does not belong in the list. Also, Wikipedia does not accept the IMDb as a reliable source. Jimknut (talk) 17:24, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

Why don't you create the pages Wagon Train (season 1), Wagon Train (season2), etc. and include the cast members there? I think that would be better than added cast members to List of Wagon Train episodes, which is already quite large as it is. Jimknut (talk) 22:52, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

The way {{Ping}} works is you type in {{Ping|USERNAME}} and then users get notifications at Special:Notifications (you can probably see a little number next to your username at the top of this page). It's not necessary to use it but it keeps me from having to watch a ton of pages just to see if someone responds to me and it also keeps conversations in one place. —Justin (koavf)TCM 08:27, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
Down again Someone on s:Help:Talk:Help:Wikilivres pointed out that there is a notice which reads, "wikilivres.ca Domain Name Service (DNS) has been suspended... from the domain because of overdue payment." —Justin (koavf)TCM 20:28, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
Once again It's down for me and I checked http://isup.me/ as well. —Justin (koavf)TCM 08:12, 21 December 2014 (UTC)

And again in 2015 I was just working on wikilivres:Cole Porter, too. —Justin (koavf)TCM 18:09, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Once more Do you know what is causing this? Will there be more reliable hosting in the future? —Justin (koavf)TCM 08:33, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
Again It's been down for two days. —Justin (koavf)TCM 04:55, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
Usually fixing that is just a matter of clicking a restart button on a tab that's always open. For now, however, the laptop that I was doing this from is getting fixed to replace the plug-in connector for the charger. Since I had to go to a different computer, I had a hard time finding the password that opened the tab. That much is entirely my fault. I can only offer my apologies. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Bollingen Foundation, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Frederick Brown and David Paul. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

edit to Raphael dab

You added a Max Raphael to Raphael (disambiguation). There is a Max on wiki but it is a different person, a voice actor not an art historian. I changed it match the wikilink provided. I could not find a Max (historian) article though. Could you see if there is one and add that to the DAB page?--☾Loriendrew☽ (talk) 17:35, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Bollingen Foundation may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s and 1 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another.
