Speedy deletion nomination of Tony Eccles (Actor)
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Tony Eccles (Actor), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Mdann52 (talk) 15:48, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
Deletion
[edit]No need to apologise, you didn't know. A lot of people see "Wikipedia is free to edit", and don't understand it. It means that anyone can edit here, yes, but it doesn't mean that anything goes. This is an encyclopaedia, not a directory like LinkedIn or a database like IMDb. We require subjects to have notability already, not be up and coming or on the brink. See WP:ENT (no, not Ear, Nose and Throat...) for what is needed for an actor, and WP:RS for what any subject requires - independent reliable sources. IMDb doesn't count, as info may be supplied from non-independent sources (like the person or their management). (This obviously doesn't apply to the IMDb entry for Adolf Hitler...) Another problem was that the article was copied from IMDb. Wikipedia is licensed under CC-BY-SA for reuse by anyone anywhere, and text at IMDb isn't. In fact, text that's been published anywhere isn't generally licensed. Some things, like Shakespeare's works, are in the public domain because of their age, and a few others are licensed - and they have a declaration on or linked from the page. The bit about promotion was down to things like 'passionate'. Words like that are quickly spotted by our patrollers - some of them even do Google searches for Wikipedia + those words. They are words used in advertising, but not in encyclopaedias. Anyway, when you've got something to show on your IMDb page, and it fits with ENT and has RS, try again. But don't let your management write it. What they wrote was OK for LinkedIn, and presumably is for IMDb, but for here, no. Good luck with the career. It's a tough business (what isn't?). Furthest I've gone in acting was reading a part. I prefer writing things. (Also a tough business...) Hope to see you back with some successes, and don't be afraid to ask if you're not sure about anything. (BTW Parts acted at drama school or just read don't count. We had an article about an actor who had some marvellous parts - all at school - and her only other stuff was things like Third Maid in productions we couldn't even identify. Note 'had'. You'll do better than that. Probably won't be a Third Maid, anyway...) Peridon (talk) 18:55, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
