A tag has been placed on John Alden Singmaster requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Getting Near to Baby

[edit]

Hey, just wanted to let you know that I made some tweaks to the article for Getting Near to Baby. I combined some of the information to make it slightly more concise- the genre of the book is already stated in the opening sentence so there's not really any need to restate this again in a later sentence. I've also fixed the source to fit in more with how they're formatted on Wikipedia. This isn't an issue with WorldCat since they're pretty stable, but sometimes you can have sources on websites that end up going "dead" (ie, the website shutting down or the site removes the specific page). Using the cite format will mark when you retrieved and verified the source, which will help keep people from removing it from the page. There's a tab for this on the edit bar when you edit pages, but here's the markup language just in case. I know that depending on which browser I use, sometimes the cite tag doesn't want to work. <ref>{{cite web|title=Main page|url=https://wiki.riteme.site|publisher=Wikipedia|accessdate=9 May 2015}}</ref> This is the basic one for web pages and one of the ones that you'll use quite often, but there are different ones for journals, books, and news outlets.

Other than that, there was only other thing to point out. Typically we don't include the ratings at social media sites (Goodreads, LibraryThing, etc) or on merchant sites (Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, etc) because they're so easily swayed in one direction or another. While it may not seem like this would be that bad of a thing on pages like this, there have been multiple cases where people have created accounts to sway ratings for a book for either good or bad. Robert Stanek is always my favorite example of this, as he's an author that has been caught falsifying reviews (hundreds of them) and other information about his career. Sometimes, rarely, user ratings can be mentioned on an article like in the case of Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas, but only if they've been mentioned in reliable sources. For the most part they're considered self-published sources at best, which means that they've undergone little to no editorial oversight. In the case of merchant sites we try to avoid linking to them in general since a link to say, Amazon, can be seen as an endorsement of that merchant and the product they're selling.

I also wanted to say that I've never thought to put the target age range for books on articles. That's a pretty good idea and one I'll try to start doing with children and teen books from here on out- definitely something that would be helpful in an article. I hope that none of the above sounded too harsh- overall your edits to the page were very well done and separating everything into sections really makes the page more clear. Let me know if you need help uploading book covers. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 06:32, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
