[edit]- I like your section about climate, it is important for tourists. Maybe, you could add some more pictures, or maybe put more examples of the estimated temperatures of winters, springs, summers, falls there. It would give the readers a better idea.--Pmalykh (talk) 01:37, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
Plagiarism/Copyvio
[edit]Hi! I received a report that you'd taken content from somewhere else, specifically this WikiTravel article. This is problematic for several reasons:
- The first issue is that you need to ensure that all of the material is accurate. The Wikitravel article is completely unsourced, so there's no guarantee that any of the information will be correct. There's no guarantee that something may not be out of date, misrepresented, or outright incorrect. It should not be used as a source, since anyone can edit it - which makes it an unreliable source as far as Wikipedia is concerned.
- The way this was posted comes across as you passing the material off as your own work. This makes it a plagiarism issue. I do see where you added the source as a citation, however this doesn't resolve the plagiarism issue, especially as Wikitravel is an unreliable source.
- WikiTravel takes a far different stance on tone, as they outright state that people can take a lively, humorous view on the material. This means that their writing style greatly differs from that of Wikipedia, which expects a formal tone. The added content doesn't read neutrally and needs to be re-written to make it more formal. For example, removing the "you" and "we". Even if the site was sourced properly, it shouldn't be used verbatim.
- WikiTravel also takes a different stance on style than Wikipedia does, specifically in that they allow people to hotlink to other sites that the site thinks could be helpful, as the site is meant to function as an online travel guide. As Wikipedia is not meant to serve as a travel guide, hotlinks should be avoided.
- In order to copy material from something licensed under a compatible Creative Commons license (or in the public domain or similar), you must attribute the material properly or it poses copyright issues. For Wikipedia this means adding a specific template to the article.
I've removed the material from the article, as it needs to be re-written. It also needs proper sourcing, as you used sources like this self-published blog. Self-published sources are rarely seen as reliable sources on Wikipedia because they undergo little to no editorial process. In order to be seen as reliable it would have to have been routinely mentioned/used as a reliable source by places like academic texts and journals. Sources like this are fine, but you should make sure to mention a date, such as "as of April 2018". You should also attribute the info to the site as well in the statement, as figures like this may differ depending on the source.
I would like for you to review the plagiarism module before progressing further, thanks. I'm also tagging your professor, Dh2olsen31 Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:39, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
- I hope that none of this comes across as too strict - I can see where something like this could be a little confusing, as it took me a little while to get used to stuff like this as well. Let me know if you have any questions! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:50, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
April 2018
[edit]Please do not add or change content, as you did at Tourism in Greece, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Please don't use spam sources such as "http://www.m3web.bg/", https://www.greeka.com/greece-culture/festivals/, etc.. or add tripe such as " Celebrations often go on for months".
