What is essay?

It is a written piece that is proposed to present ideas, express emotions/feelings, rise discussions or debates about a certain topic.

The history of essay traced back in 1580 by French philosopher called Michel de Montaigne.

What is the structure of the essay (Outline)?

There are three main parts for creating the essay: Introduction, body and conclusion. However, each part consists of specific features.

1-Introduction: It is the first part of the essay that provides a general idea about the topic. This section includes an opening hook as well as a thesis statement.

2-Body: It is the most specific and longest part of the essay where the ideas mentioned in the thesis statement will be discussed deeply. In this stage, you can provide further detailed information to the topic. (i.e. reasons, explanation and facts)

3-Conclusion: It is the last part of the essay which either summarizes the main points of the topic or restates the thesis statements using different words. It is necessary not to include any new points in the conclusion.

What are the four main types of the essay?

There are four main types of the essay:

1-Narrative: it involves telling story or experience.                    

2-Descriptive: It gives detailed information about the topic includes: time, place and events. etc.       

3-Expository: it provides a clear explanation for the topic.      

4-Argumentative: it presents a logical analysis of a certain topic.
