Welcome!

Hello, EDG 543, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{help me}} on this page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!--Biografer (talk) 18:15, 22 September 2017 (UTC)

I see you're trying to add sources for that material on Carpentersville, Illinois. Thanks for doing that. I've gone in and fixed the template. All you were missing was the "=" sign between "url" and the URL. I've also tagged the article with {{linkrot}}. If you can fill out more paramaters in the {{cite web}} template, please do so. Otherwise one of the good linkrot patrollers will come by and try to fix it up.

Don't be discouraged. A lot of new editors have problems with these citation templates. You'll get the hang of them quickly! Toddst1 (talk) 16:41, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

By the way, it's probably best to stay away from 2017 Las Vegas Strip shooting for a while - that article is under such scrutiny, it will be very difficult for a new editor like yourself to find success there and you can find yourself slapped with more templated messages like the ones above and get discouraged quickly. I'm not saying you can't edit there, but I think there are easier places to "cut your teeth." Toddst1 (talk) 16:44, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Asdfhgbjn

Hello EDG 543,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Asdfhgbjn for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. Take a look at our suggestions for essential content in short articles to learn what should be included.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, talk pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments, as you did at Draft talk:Carpentersville Middle School, is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. • Gene93k (talk) 21:40, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Carpentersville Middle School shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Primefac (talk) 17:33, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

Word to the wise

If you keep up the insistence on citing the name of the school, you are likely to be blocked from editing very soon. Locking the article from being edited is the gentle way of stopping the argument -- but when someone comes back right away and starts the same edit war again, the next step is to block that person from editing. That's not a cool thing and would damage your future as a Wikipedian. So I suggest, just forget about it, walk away from that disagreement. If you can, walk away from that article. MPS1992 (talk) 20:27, 24 April 2018 (UTC)

@MPS1992:Can you please explain to me why I can't cite the name of the school? How else am I supposed to prove it?" Also, not trying to argue/ get blocked. I just really want to know. Also, could you put it on the Carpentersville Middle School talk page please? EDG 543 (talk) 20:36, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
I think there has already been plenty of discussion about it on the article talk page. Until the balance of views on the article talk page changes, it's best not to add it back into the article. Sorry. MPS1992 (talk) 20:44, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
@MPS1992: *sigh* Thanks anyway. I appreciate it.

Await Further Instructions moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Await Further Instructions, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. "In police custody" doesn't sound oddly newsy to you?

Does to me, but no huge deal. InedibleHulk (talk) 22:49, August 3, 2019 (UTC)

It's kind of normal around here -- this usage would be less common in the UK, but still understood -- and also provides very slightly more information than "were arrested". I often find myself getting "oddly newsy", because most of the sources I look at are newspapers. Often from many years ago... MPS1992 (talk) 22:54, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, it's common. "Law enforcement officials" instead of police, too. But if everyone else jumped off a bridge? Gotta keep our reading and editing separate, to an extent. We're not paid by the word on this side. InedibleHulk (talk) 22:59, August 3, 2019 (UTC)
On another review, I think you are probably right. Thank you to both of you for updating articles regarding recent events, but EDG, please could you follow the sources rather less obediently? MPS1992 (talk) 23:33, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
The next 157 bytes of hollow redundancy are a big deal. Explain. InedibleHulk (talk) 22:51, August 3, 2019 (UTC)
@InedibleHulk: I don't understand why you reverted my edits. You just seem like you are unnecessarily simplifying the article. Have you ever considered editing in Simple English Wikipedia? Thanks, EDG 543 (talk) 23:02, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
It's not unnecessary, concise writing is read and parsed quicker than eloquent and winding stuff. Facts stayed the same. Simple Wikipedia cuts the facts. InedibleHulk (talk) 23:12, August 3, 2019 (UTC)
I had no idea you wrote it, so wasn't trying to revert anyone. Just noticed a clunky chunk. Nothing personal. InedibleHulk (talk) 23:15, August 3, 2019 (UTC)
If we're going to get picky, this edit removed facts, but... everything will probably change again in the next few hours. MPS1992 (talk) 23:35, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
To split hairs, one fact. Does it help anyone to know a hospital spokesperson was involved in relaying the more pertinent transfer info? Doubt it. InedibleHulk (talk) 23:42, August 3, 2019 (UTC)
OK so you want to split hairs about which exact hospital spokespeople said what about what? And meanwhile, I will assume you are behind the curve, and that this EDG person is more up to date? Please all encourage each other when you update articles. MPS1992 (talk) 03:15, 4 August 2019 (UTC)
Not quite what happened. Close enough, maybe. I still think you're both cool enough to keep up the good work here, for what it's worth. InedibleHulk (talk) 04:27, August 4, 2019 (UTC)

Hello, EDG 543. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Await Further Instructions".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! JMHamo (talk) 08:20, 28 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited History of the Seattle Seahawks, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Frank Clark (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 07:26, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

What makes this product (phone) notable? I couldn't find any review in an outlet that seems reliable and not just blog advert or a rewritten press releases. Fails WP:GNG (also similar situation to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Vivo V2).

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Your draft article, Draft:2018 NBA Finals Game 1

Hello, EDG 543. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "2018 NBA Finals Game 1".

You may benefit from using RedWarn

Hello, EDG 543! I'm Ed6767, a developer for RedWarn. I noticed you have been using Twinkle and was wondering if you'd like to try RedWarn, a new modern and user friendly tool specifically designed to improve your editing experience.

RedWarn is currently in use by over two hundred other Wikipedians, and feedback so far has been extremely positive. In fact, in a recent survey of RedWarn users, 90% of users said they would recommend RedWarn to another editor. If you're interested, please see the RedWarn tool page for more information on RedWarn's features and instructions on how to install it. Otherwise, feel free to remove this message from your talk page. If you have any further questions, please ping me or leave a message on RedWarn's talk page at WT:RW. Your feedback is much appreciated! Ed talk! 20:21, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

@Ed6767: Wow! This is so easy to use and is a life saver! I have literally been doing a lot of reverting lately and this makes it so much faster and easier. Thank you so much for suggesting it to me! Thanks, EDG 543 (talk) 20:52, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
No problem! Glad to hear you enjoy it. Pro tip: if you'd like to save some time when reverting vandalism and warning people, open your RedWarn Preferences and set "on rollback completion" (under the behavior settings) to your prefered option, such as new notice, which will automatically open the warn user dialog. Rollback granted

Hi EDG 543. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Anarchyte (talkwork) 04:25, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

September 2020

Consider this a warning that your behavior at User talk:Iiswhoiisbxtch was unacceptable and I came very close to blocking you. Editors have every right to remove warnings from their user talk pages although archiving is preferred. Please study our policy on edit warring and never engage in that behavior again. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 17:06, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

One of your 3RR reverts was a misuse of the rollback permission you were granted just yesterday. I've put a 1 month expiry date on the permission to allow an evaluation of your use of it over the next month. Cabayi (talk) 17:12, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
@Cullen328: Thank you for your mercy in not blocking me. I do, now, realize the error of my ways. I thought that the user was trying to hide evidence in the sockpuppet case, and I was completely wrong in what I did. Thank you very much for showing me that I was wrong, I wasn't trying to be malicious, I just thought that I was doing the right thing at the time. If you notice me screwing somehting else up, please don't hesitate to warn me like you did this itme. Thanks, EDG 543 (talk) 17:16, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
@Cabayi: Yes, I was wrong with what I was doing. I will be much more careful in the future. But, may I ask, after the month is over, will I need to reapply or anything like that? Thanks, EDG 543 (talk) 17:19, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
I have made additional comments about your behavior at User talk:Iceinabucket which I hope you will take seriously. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 17:29, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
Yes, you'll need to reapply. You can reapply a couple of days before it expires on the 16th if you want to avoid a gap. Cabayi (talk) 17:33, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
@Cabayi: Thanks for adding the expiry date. I'd have probably revoked the permission immediately after this blatant misuse of the tools, but I think your approach will be better for everyone. Anarchyte (talkwork) 04:37, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
