Inaccuracy or Discrepancy?

[edit]

Good eye for detail spotting the discrepancies in dates between the two articles.

In order to determine which date, and source, was more accurate, I checked a book we have in the CMA Library, The Journals of Captain Cook. The entry for July 12 states that at noon the ship was "abreast of Dover" (p. 212). The entry for July 13 states that "the Endeavor anchored in the Downs, off Kent, and Cook went ashore" (p. 212). I would give this one to OEHM, although since the ship was in English waters on July 12, you could make a case for Wikipedia's date.

I agree with your assessment of the misleading nature of the OEHM statement about crew deaths.
